Jaycee wrote an amazing three page recount about her holidays.

Sophie and Tenielle were able to sound out words and match them with the correct picture.

Superstar Kindy students, Ava and Kye, were able to count and write the correct numbers.

Tina increased her lexile score by 178 points. Evan has been working hard on his neatness

and getting his spelling words correct. Alicia, Scarlet, Jordi, Matilda and Logan have

made great progress with their lexile results. Erica came to share the great improvement she

has made with her writing. She has even included some “super sentences”. Stevie wrote a great compound sentence and

was able to describe what a compound sentence was.

The theme for this year is -

School Happenings

At the end of Week 2, the Year 3/4 class had a sleepover in the school grounds. We were lucky enough to be able to stay in Room 5 thanks to Miss Kelly. The students had lots of fun... Thank you for all the volunteers and helpers for making this possible. I would like to say an especially big thank you to the following people and groups: The school P&C for their ongoing support in organising and donations made. Dowerin Gourmet Butcher Shop for providing our dinner and to the teachers/cleaners/helpers who volunteered their time. We didn’t take any photos, but I am sure all the parents involved heard all about how much they enjoyed their time.

Hi All!

Hope everyone has had a great break we are finally getting some warmer weather so it’s time to get outside and get

healthy, remembering your hats to protect you from the sun and lots of water to drink to keep your body hydrated.

The immunisation team will be visiting DDHS on Nov 8th for the last round of the year 8 immunisations, we will send

out a reminder letter closer to the time I will be coming to the school once a fortnight this term as most of my screening

has been attended however if there is anything that the school needs in regard to health I am happy to help and that in-

cludes any checks for hearing or vision in any class.

MORE THAN 2 HOURS SCREEN TIME IS TOO MUCH!

It is important for your child’s health not to spend too long each day sitting watching the television, surfing the net or

playing electronic games for entertainment. This is true for all children, even those who are physically active.

Watching TV for more than 2 hours a day is associated with:

Being overweight as a child and adult

Poor fitness, smoking and raised cholesterol in adulthood

Increased social problems

Less time interacting with siblings or friends

Less time in active and creative play

Increased aggressive behavior

Some evidence also shows these children are more likely to:

Ask for advertised junk food

Snack on junk foods and soft drinks

Have sleeping problems

Achieve less at school

With a little bit of encouragement and creativity, physical activity can be a fun alternative to electronic entertainment,

so it’s time to unplug and play!

Please feel free to contact me at any time in regard to your child’s health needs.

IMPORTANT SCHOOL BUS INFORMATION

Dear Parents and Carers It’s that time of the year again and School Bus Services (SBS) have commenced planning for the 2017 school year. To ensure that your child/ren’s school bus transport requirements are passed along to SBS, it will be appreciated if you consider the following questions and take action where appropriate: CHANGE TO CIRCUMSTANCES Is your child changing schools in 2017, including changing from primary school to high school and will need to catch a different bus? Are you moving address before the 2017 school year commences? Do you have an additional child that will require orange school bus transport for the first time in 2017? If you have answered YES to any of these questions you will need to submit a new application for Transport Assistance. This can be completed online through the SBS website at: www.schoolbuses.wa.gov.au You can also download a hard copy form from the website and submit by mail, fax or via email ([email protected]). You are not able to use the Change of Details form on the website in place of submitting a new application. New applications need to be submitted to SBS as soon as possible and preferably no later than 18 November, 2016. Applications lodged after this date may not be processed in time for the 2017 year and in this case you may need to provide private transport.

SBS expects to notify families of the outcome of applications for 2017 before mid-January 2017. If your child no longer needs to catch their current orange bus in 2017 please complete the below section and return to the driver.

This week’s ideas from LiveLighter® for families

LiveLighter® tip #2 – Get kids to help choose, plan and prepare meals. This teaches them great life skills and they’re more likely to eat it if they’re involved! Try this out on evenings when you have a bit more time. Kids can take a bit longer to do things and cooking will be more fun for everyone if there’s no time pressure!
