TRANSCRIPT
Adults: Jesus praises his Father for the irony of the wise and learned who are unable to see what is revealed to the childlike. What does this well us about the kingdom of heaven? Children: Jesus tells us that His yoke (living as a Chris an) is easy and His burden in light. When you follow Jesus and act with charity and kindness, do you feel His peaceful presence?

St. Maria Goretti: July 6 Does anything match a mother’s pride in her children? First Communions, confirma ons, gradua ons, weddings: how these delight a mother’s heart! Imagine, then, Assunta Gore , the only mother ever to a end her child’s canoniza on! In poverty-stricken rural Italy, widowed Assunta tended fields for the Serenelli family, whose eighteen-year-old son, Alessandro, proposi oned her barely twelve-year-old Maria; then, when she resist-ed, crying, “It is a sin! God forbids it!” he stabbed her fourteen mes. As she lay dying, Maria assured the a ending priest, “Yes, I forgive Alessandro! I want him to be in Paradise with me someday.” Imprisoned, unrepentant, Alessandro changed a er dreaming that a radiant Maria had offered him fourteen lilies. “I’ve kept my promise,” she smiled. “You’ll be here with me someday.” Upon release, he rushed to beg Assunta’s forgiveness. “Jesus has forgiven you,” she replied, “my Maria, too. How can I refuse?” Next morning, mother and murderer walked arm in arm to church and knelt side by side for Communion. —Peter Scagnelli, Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

SJA Peacemakers Make a “Circle of Silence” Protest against Racism
On Monday, June 22 the St. Joan of Arc Peacemakers minis-try conducted a “Circle of Silence” Protest Against Racism in San Ramon’s Central Park. The purpose of this ac vity was to reflect in a public se ng the silence of centuries forced upon people of color in our country, especially the African-American community, due to racism and injus ce. A “Circle of Silence” was formed at three different loca ons in the park and all par cipants kept silent vigil, holding their signs expressing protest against racism while facing the public, for 8 minutes, 46 seconds – in memory of George Floyd’s agonizing death. Below are reflec ons from some of the Peacemakers who par cipated in this event and the closing prayer.
“A er praying together we stood in a circle on the grass in silence in Central Park for our 8 minutes, 46 seconds, three
mes in three loca ons on Monday morning. We each faced outward with our signs. We stood within the park facing morning walkers and then toward the street with car drivers who honked in support. My sign read: “In Silence We Remember THE INJUSTICE Done to GEORGE FLOYD. May he Rest in Peace.”
“The blessing to be able to par cipate in the reverent protest on behalf of so many brothers and sisters of color who have suffered unspeakable pain and dehumanizing atroci es was most humbling. The experience touched my heart deeply and I implore God’s mercy on my par cipa on in the benefits of privilege that sustain racism.”
“Regarding my experience par cipa ng in the Circle of Silence, I was so close to the love of God. The silence was so powerful. It had its own language as it communicated an -racism on the posters to the cars passing by and to those walking past us. The people walking by acknowledged us with approval. The cars honked showing agreement. The prayers we began at the Circle of Silence and ended at the Circle of Silence were very inspira onal. My thoughts were silenced and I was in the presence of God.”
Closing Prayer from the “Circle of Silence” Protest: We long for Your shalom – for Your healing, wholeness and restora on of Your people and Your world. We long to know Your abundance and Your peace. Yet many of us par cipate and uphold the systems of evil, injus ce and oppression that are established to privilege some and hinder the breath of others. These systems are unveiled and exposed in this season, whether it is in the rampant spread of COVID-19 that has stolen the breath of life from more than 100,000 people, dispropor onately people of color, or hospitals discoun ng COVID-19 symptoms in African-Americans, who are denied tes ng and proper treatment un l a er it is too late and they take their last breath, or a police officer using excessive force, while ignoring George Floyd’s pleas for his life un l he could breathe no more. There are so many names to recount whose lives were lost unjustly. Breathe on us, Holy Spirit may the fire of righteous indigna on burn in our hearts so that we might be refined, trans-formed, and renewed by its flame each day. Breathe on us, Holy Spirit so that we might be emboldened to interrupt the sinful systems of evil, injus ce and op-pression all around us. That we might root it out of ourselves and our laws and our ins tu ons. Breathe on us, Holy Spirit so that we might be agents of your shalom. Come Holy Spirit, Come. Amen. If you have any ques ons or comments about our Circle of Silence, please contact Kim Tarman at (925) 361-5755.

Gospel Reading Ma hew 11:25-30 Jesus prays in thanks to God, who has revealed himself to the lowly. Family Connection
In today’s Gospel, Jesus teaches an important lesson for families: from the youngest and simplest among us we can learn the most profound insights about God. Parents who are a en ve to this reality can learn much from their children even as their children are learning from them. Families who create me and space for encounters with God will enrich the faith of all who share in family life.
Gather as a family and read together today’s Gospel, Ma hew 11:25-30. Allow me for each person to reflect on what Jesus reveals to us about God. Invite each person to show these things in a crea ve way, perhaps through a picture, poem, or some other means. Share these with one another. Conclude in prayer together, thanking Jesus for making God known to us.
Congratula ons to all the children who received Jesus for the first me on Saturday, June 27th. Thank you to Rev. Raymond Sacca for making it possible for
our First Communicants to celebrate this very special day. Thank you to our Music Director Barbara Pinto-Choate, Ms. Mary Machi and to all the parents for making
this small and in mate celebra on very memorable for your child.
May they constantly feel the presence of the Lord and may they grow con nually under the grace of God!
