“SPACE SCHOOL” Initiative: a way to space and geoscience

The initiative began in 2014 with a lecture entitled “Spatial thinking in Earth

Sciences” for the students from National High School of Mathematics and

Sciences “Acad. L. Chakalov” presented by Stefan Stamenov

As a result of the first lecture in National High School of Mathematics and Science

and the interest of the students a cycle of lectures for GIS and remote sensing was

created.

The lectures has been organized and presented

for the students of National High School of

Mathematics and Science in 2015 and 2016

In 2016 this initiative was expanded with presenting lectures in six other schools in

Sofia. The lectures was elaborated:

for students from 5th to 7th grade

for students from secondary schools (8th to 12th grade)

In April 2016 the initiative was supported by the Bulgarian Austrautical Society

The “Space School” initiative is targeted at secondary school students (5th – 7th grade

and 8th-12th grade)

It aims to introduce the students interested in science related to space and Earth

observation with the novelties and achievements in the field of aerospace research

and technology.

“Space School” topics:

Spaceflight as science and industry

Space physics and its application in help of society

Space biotechnologies – achievements in space and application

Earth observation from space – science and business

Geographic information systems and their role in science, society,

economy and business

Aircrafts for Earth observation – manned and unmanned
