This is in addition to the years that Dallas and Lorna have been active in what we all knew as the TPA (Telephone Pioneers Of America) and now has changed to TP (TelecomPioneers). Dallas has held many offices within the TP organization and was recently reelected as the St. Paul, MN. Life Member President. No sooner did he step down from the International Director’s position, he was then appointed as International Administrator for the ITPFC, replacing Bob Bonn. Dallas has taken on an even more time consuming job. Good luck to you both, Dallas and Lorna. I am honored to have been elected to the International Director’s position. My first official order of business, was to appoint Dallas Leier, as the International Administrator and Maryann Bench as the International Telephone Pioneer Family Campers, Secretary. Talking about dedication, leads me to the next couple that deserves our most sincere appreciation and that would be Bob and June Bonn. Bob was the International Administrator for the TPFC, from 1983, when Francis Smith (TPFC#1) and Tom Snow (TPFC#2), asked Bob to accept an appointment to this position, until 2003. That’s twenty years and many personal goals and de- sires put on hold, in order to dedicate the time and work that is required to fulfill the requirement’s of the Administrator’s position. Obviously, Bob and June’s fam- ily were involved with a good deal of the work. Thank you, seems inadequate, but I am hoping you will have the time to do what you have put off for so many years. ITPFC rally in Astoria, Oregon. Upon our way to the 32nd International Rally,in Columbia, Mo., Peggy and I traveled to Burlington, Co., for the Rocky Moun-tain Region Rally, held by the Colo./Wyo. Pioneer Campers and hosted by Dougand Vi Cook. About 37 rig’s from 8 states, were treated to a fun filled couple ofdays. We parked at Miller’s R. V. park and the activities were at “Old Town”,which included a horse drawn wagon ride to see and to ride on an old 1900scarousel. The lunch and dinner at the museum, as well as the social times at thesaloon, were great. Thank you Doug, Vi and the Colo/Wyo Pioneer Campers, for an enjoyable campout.

Most of the Family Campers that were at the Rocky Mountain Region Rally, continued on to Columbia. Anyone that didn’t attend the 32nd International

International.... continued from page 2

dampened things a bit, but everything went smooth.Thursday evening, our Chaplain, Tommy Seiler, led us in a tribute to the 9/

11 victims. Candles were provided, and we sang and prayed aloud and in silencein memory of the victims, their families and the heroes who saved so manylives.

Friday morning was spent filling the door prize bags. Friday afternoonBetty and Ed DiPietro arrived with the soup and sandwiches for dinner. CraigDusenbery got out his stove and pots and helped Betty with the soup, whileothers helped with setting up. Maureen O’Brien made placemats for the tablesand Tommy Seiler made up neat little bags with sand, shells and a cute sayingon the bag, so everyone could take home a bit of NJ. As our theme was “Downby the sea in 2003” the placemats and beach decorations were quite appropriate. Also all the Wagoneers provided cookies for dessert. The soup and sandwicheswere excellent and we had very little left over. Phyllis Ozeransky and GloriaFogel and their coffee crew made sure we had coffee available, as well as icedtea and lemonade. Dinner was followed by the rally executive board committee.

Saturday got off to a busy start with “coffee and” being available at8:30. Nancy Thompson ordered 10 dozen bagels and mini muffins, along

with cream cheese, butter and jelly. There was also orange juice and coffeeavailable. The serving tables were covered and decorated with flowers andeach type of gourmet bagel was in it’s own basket with a label identifying it. Itwas very nicely done and tasted good too! The opening ceremony and meetingwas started off with another prayer by Tommy. Skip Hendricks welcomedeveryone and reviewed the day’s activities. Door prizes were given out, .andJim Persing and Charlie Robinson had a chance to fill us in on regional activities.Betty Harris and her raffle team were selling tickets at the meals. They did anexcellent job in raising money to help defray the cost of the rally.

At 1:00pm on Saturday we had our ice cream social. There were manyservers helping out, and the ice cream was good, especially when it had some ofthe many available toppings on it. We had some time to socialize and then wehad a horse race. It was a fun event and many people had the chance to be ajockey and try to coax their horses to the finish line. I think all the participantshad fun, some went home with more money than they came with and there weresome lighter pockets also.

As the pavilion emptied out, the decorating committee, led by LindaHendricks, went to work. The drab pavilion started to take on the appearance ofa tropical isle. There were wall decorations, colored tablecloths, table decorationsand centerpieces, and the serving area was dressed for the luau. Lars Andersonset the stage up with his equipment and speakers as well as the decorations hebrought along. It was quite a sight when it was all done.

Ken Heins and Linda welcomed the arriving dinner guests and presentedthem with a lei. We had 114 people join us for the dinner. Lars entertainedeveryone and then the raffle prizes were awarded to the lucky ticket holders. And then it was time to eat. Nancy Thompson had recommended the catererbased on past experiences with them. And her choice was an excellent one. Wehad pulled pork, chicken, potato salad, baked beans and corn on the cob.Everything was delicious. And of course the Bell Wagoneers provided somereal good home made desserts and other treats to satisfy everyone’s sweet tooth. After dinner we were entertained by a Hawaiian dancer who performed sometraditional island dances for us. The Seiler’s and Betty Harris had seen herbefore, and suggested we consider her for entertainment at the rally. Anotherwise suggestion, as she was good. The rest of the evening Lars played hismusic, taught some dance steps, and had quite a good crowd up and dancingwith him and Lori.

Sunday morning Nancy Thompson was up early making donuts for everyone(well, at least she went to pick them up). The coffee crew was in action again, making sure everyone had their caffeine fix for the day. I had taken digitalpictures over the weekend, burned some cd’s in the morning and tried to giveone to those from the other Club’s who attended the breakfast. I will makemore for the Bell Wagoneers.

After breakfast was over, it was time to remove the decorations and cleanup. Yes, we left it cleaner than we found it! Many people from the other Clubsthanked us for putting on a great rally. I also received an email afterwardsthanking us for our hospitality.

I know I did not mention everyone’s name in this review, and please don’tbe offended. Every one who was there pitched in and helped whenever andwherever it was needed. Thank you for the door prizes, the donated raffle prizes, bringing the cookies and desserts and for helping with the setting up, decorating, serving the food, and cleaning up.

There was a lot of effort put into this rally, and we are fortunate enough tohave very active and dedicated member’s to help make a rally like this a success.

THANK YOU!

Respectfully submitted,

John O’Brien

THE REST OF THE STORY.....From Arizona Phone Phokes News Letter

As many of us do, Audrey VanLeuken, treated herself to some fluffing &buffing at Gloria’s during the Pholks’ annual visit to Rocky Point last November.Audrey asked Gloria if she knew a good dentist for John to visit. Gloriarecommended her own brother who has his office at the Clinica Hospital SantaFe.

As they approached the Hospital for John’s appointment, they noticed aparked car with a Canadian license plate. In the waiting area they observed aman walking back & forth who was obviously distressed & upset. Audreyapproached him, introduced herself &offered assistance. Heidentified himself asTom Trutch &acknowledged that hewas the owner of theCanadian car. Theywere on their first bigtrip after retiring. Theyhad come to RP to meeta group, were late & the others had left. His wife, Sue, had fallen at the fishmarket, broken her hip & was there in the Hospital. He was unable tocommunicate with the staff, couldn’t get through on the card phone to Canada& didn’t seem to know what to do next. With his permission Audrey talkedwith the doctor who spoke English pretty well. After all options for her treatmentwere considered, Canada decided to send a jet for her. In the meantime, Suewas feeling quite cold. The blanket that was brought for her was clean but veryworn.

John took Tom to get some food & begin preparations for his departure toCanada with Sue. Tom Moore loaned Tom 2 duffle bags. John took Tom toPlaya Bonita, emptied the refrigerator in the motor home, arranged the storageof the Trutch’s rig & car & devised a “carrier” for the cat by punching holes ina box.

Audrey returned to Playa Elegante, picked up Joeann Wilson, who speaksSpanish & could assist with thecommunication back at theHospital. Another blanket wasrequested for Sue & this one wasas thin as the first one.By now the plane was arriving. The ambulance was called totransport Sue to it for $20. She,Tom & the cat flew home whereSue had surgery. She is

recovering. They returned to AZ in January. The VanLeukens took them backto RP to get their coach & car. Tom was very pleased to find everything just ashe had left it & very grateful to Audrey & John VanLeuken for their gracious& generous assistance.

After the original emergency was handled, Joeann Wilson returned to thelittle 6 bed Hospital & spoke with the Administrator. She agreed that they werevery short of hospital linens & those they did have were pretty shabby.. Joeannthought the Phone Pholks might be able to help & solicited a “wish list”. Joeannbrought it to the club & the response was immediate & enthusiastic.

Now that is the rest of the story!!!!!

TPFC CENTRAL REGIONby Jim Patterson

I have been trying for days to put together something good enough for youto read and enjoy but the closer the deadline gets, the harder it is to come upwith something. I have been watching how time changes as we “Mature.” Iwas a camper when I started to work for Ma Bell being raised on a farm in east

Texas that is bordered on one side by the Attoyac river which kept me outdoorsa lot while growing up. My brothers and I fish a lot after school and on weekendsthere were always some of our city friends that would come over and we wouldspend a night or two in the creek bank fishing and cooking over a camp fire. Wedidn’t have a rod and reel. We would dig worms or sien a ditch for bait and cutpoles from the cane breaks along the river bottoms. Most of our fishing wasdone by putting out set hooks up and down the river banks, running them aboutevery two hours and sitting around the camp fire telling tales and drinking coffeeboiled in a syrup bucket and if we were lucky enough to catch anything it wentin the frying pan. If anyone got any sleep they did it early in between stories orbefore they got so scared they couldn’t sleep. Sometime it would be breakingday before the brave fishermen would run the hooks. That is what I call camping.I always held fond memories of those times and looked forward to retiring andteaching my grand kids how to camp. We took my youngest grandson andgranddaughter camping last summer and I must say “Things have changed.”We went in the motor home with all their treats, like Nintendo with 40 differentgames, baby dolls, suntan lotion, mosquito repellent, ice cream, color TV, plentyof groceries and store bought watermelon and most of everything they owned. We had a great time but would you call that camping? Things do change.

One day you think the war in Iraq is over and the next day we loose a HueyHelicopter and 9 American Troops. The next day the spring grass is beginningto grow and the weather reports say the East coast is having the worst Arcticstorm in 150 years. Vermont had minus 27 degrees. I just saw where Foretravelcalled back 200 employees and it looked like camping was going to get betterthan when I filled up with diesel today the price had jumped up 6 cents a gallon. We were planning to sell some stock so we could go to Gillette, Wyoming forthe “International TPFC Rally” but with stock bouncing like a rubber ball and itseems like it continues to go lower than higher. Maybe I should have boughtinto Enron or Quest, even though you loose your money, you at least get youname in the news.

It’s sad when you see a good person doing a good job and without notice isreduced from a $70,000 job to a store clerk making minimum wage and notquiet old enough to draw Social Security because of the economy. You canthink or say what you like but folks, we are the lucky ones. If you researchedHistory, I don’t think you would find that any generation had it any better thanus. We should be thankful, so let’s get out and wash and wax our rigs and enjoywhat we can while we can.

Last year was a great year and this one will be even better because we canadd to the pleasant memories of the past. We did not get to make as many campouts as we would have like but the ones we did make were great. One in particular. It was the “5 State Great Rivers Rally” in Villa Ridge, Missouri. It was in abeautiful park, the weather was just right and entertainment that fit all of us.The food was all delicious, and plenty of it. Some said I enjoyed it so muchbecause I have never been in a state before that had as many Wineries.Everyone there won a prize and all the Hosts were the”Down Home” type ofpeople that really made you enjoy being there. I’m not taking anything awayfrom the International Rally that was held a week earlier at “Boon County FairGrounds.” The food was excellent, the entertainment was great and even thoughwe had a little rain, the weather was cool and very enjoyable. Al Fogel and hisstaff did an outstanding job.We have had several region Rallies through out the Central Region this pastyear and have more coming up in the near future and if any one in interested letme know and I will try to get the information to you.

The weather has changed a lot since we first started camping many yearsago. It seems as though we could predict the weather a little better when weplanned a camp out then. We could pick a nice weekend and even if we missedour prediction, we might get a local shower or a weak cold front which reallydidn’t bother much, but lately it goes from one extreme to the other. I try towatch the weather reports on TV or the radio and they are each different andchange drastically about every 15 minutes. Makes a fellow a little hesitant totry to plan a long trip in the late Fall or early Spring. I just don’t want to getstranded in snow or a hail storm or a flood. The rest I can handle. When we dogo camping, one of the most important thing to do is to remember:“LEAVE IT CLEANER THAN YOU FOUND IT”

The 6th annual N.E.A.R. was held in” Big Timber Lake Resort” at CapeMay Court House and New Jersey, hosted by the Bell Wagoneers. It was a littledamp but the hosts had quite a busy schedule which included an Hawaiian Luaucomplete with Hawaiian dancers to include lessons from John for those whoneeded help. It was a great time as everyone did receive a lei from a member ofthe Bell Wagoneers. The next N.E.A.R. will be hosted by the Penn-Del ClubHill Campground in Kutztown, PA. October 8-10, 2004.

Then it was off to the 2003 International in Missouri, Al Fogle and all ofthe” KC Cuzins” put on an excellent rally, it was nice meeting all the friendsyou haven’t seen since the last International and making new ones. We saidgoodbye to Bob and June Bonn as Administrators, giving Bob time to catch upon the Honey-do list that June said has gotten quite long over the years. DallasLeier moving from the International Director to taking the large task ofAdministrator and electing Joe Venuti as the new International Director. Goodluck to all of them.

After the International a group of us headed for the Great Rivers 5 Staterally just outside St. Louis, the hosts were the “Gateway Family Campers.” Asexpected they put on one outstanding 5 state, all that attended are still talkingabout it, all I can say is “Thanks to their entire club for being such gracioushosts.”

As we go forward remember this is your International, it needs your supportto go forward, with out it there is no International. Keep your clubs active, letthe Administrator know about changes that need to be made on the membership.Submit your camping schedule for the up coming year so members visitingyour area can visit. Also remember that the Regional Vice Presidents are therefor you, use them.

Camp GroundsA rather old fashioned lady, always quite delicate and elegant, especially in

her language, was planning a weeks holiday in Sydney with her husband, so shewrote to a particular camping ground and asked for a reservation.

She wanted to make sure that the camping ground was fully equipped, butdidn’t know quite how to ask about the toilet facilities. She just couldn’t bringherself to write the word “toilet” in her letter.

After much thought, she finally came up with the old fashioned term“Bathroom closet” but when she wrote it down, she still thought she was beingto forward, so she started all over again, rewrote the letter, and referred to thebathroom closet as the B.C. “Does the camping ground have it’s own B.C.” iswhat she wrote.

Well, the camping ground owner wasn’t a bit old fashioned, and he justcouldn’t figure out what the old lady was talking about, so he showed the letteraround a few of the campers and the only thing they could come up with wasthat B.C. stood for Baptist Church, so he wrote the following reply.

Dear Madam:

I regret very much the delay in answering your letter, but I now take thepleasure of informing you that a B.C. is located nine miles north of our campingground, and is capable of seating 250 people at one time.

I admit that it is quite a distance away if you are in the habit of goingregularly but no doubt you will be pleased to know that a great number of campers

go there and many take their lunches along and make a day of it. They usuallyarrive nice and early and stay quite late.

The last time my wife and I went was six years ago, and it was so crowdedwe had to stand up the whole time we were there. It may interest you to knowthat there is a special supper planned there to raise money to buy more seats sothat everyone will be able to sit in comfort.

I would like to say that it pains me very much not to be able to go moreregularly, but it is surely no lack of desire on my part just that I am so busy mostof the time.

As we grow older, it seems to be more of an effort to go, especially in thecold weather. If you decided to come down to our camping ground perhaps Icould go with you the first time you go, sit with you and introduce you to all theother folks.

Remember this is a very friendly community.

Western Vice President ReportThe Oct.7-10 dates for the International Rally in Columbia, Missouri worked

out great for Betty & me. Autumn in Missouri is beautiful. We took our timegetting back to Arizona, finally getting home Nov.3. Five months on the road -great summer trip. The sign-up sheet I had at Columbia for the Quartzsite, AzRV & Travel Show Jan. 20-24, 2004 didn’t attract much attention. We had tenrigs parked on the “golf course” and many Pioneers and friends stopped by tovisit. Shopping kept everyone busy and we had great weather. Willie Smithfrom Utah cooked Brats in beer for everyone on Wed. evening. The ladiesfurnished pot-luck dishes to go with the Brats. We had a lot of visitors thatevening so Willie ran out of Brats but no one went away hungry. Wieners filledin for the Brats. On Thursday evening, Joe Venuti played his guitar for a couplehours. That brought a crowd. There were people standing in the streets listeningto his great music. Folks, try to get a visual image of this; sitting under the starswith good friends, a roaring campfire and Joe Venuti playing his guitar. It doesn’tget any better than that. The New Mexico Zia Drifters are hosting the RockyMountain Regional Rally June 3-7, 2004 at Red Rock State Park in Gallup,NM. This park is in a beautiful location and has great facilities for a large group. The Zia Drifters Wagon Master, John Perniciaro should have good attendanceat this rally. It is timed perfectly for all who attend to have plenty of time to getto the International Rally in Gillette, Wyo. June 14-18. The MontanaMountaineers and Wagon Master Mack Wille are hosting a multi-state campoutJune 6-9, 2004 at Lewis & Clark Caverns State Park, forty miles east of Butteon I90. This campout is also in a great location and timed perfectly for Pioneersfrom Idaho, Washington, Oregon and Alberta headed for Gillette. ! Drive Friendlyand see you in Gillette.

Bob Mead,

Attitude is Everythingby Francie Baltazar-Schwartz

Jerry was the kind of guy you love to hate. He was always in a good moodand always had something positive to say. When someone would ask him howhe was doing, he would reply, “If I were any better, I’d be twins!” He was aunique manager because he had several waiters who had followed him aroundfrom restaurant to restaurant. The reason the waiters followed Jerry was becauseof his attitude. He was a natural motivator. If an employee was having a badday, Jerry was there telling the employee how to look on the positive side of thesituation. Seeing this style really made me curious, so one day I went up to Jerryand asked him, “I don’t get it! You can’t be a positive person all of the time. How do you do it?” Jerry replied, “Each morning I wake up and say to myself,

‘Jerry, you have two choices today. You can choose to be in a good mood or youcan choose to be in a bad mood.’ I choose to be in a good mood. When somethingbad happens, I can choose to be a victim or I can choose to learn from it. Ichoose to learn from it. Every time someone comes to me complaining, I canchoose to accept their complaining or I can point out the positive side of life. Ichoose the positive side of life.” “Yeah, right, it’s not that easy,” I protested.“Yes it is.”Jerry said. “Life is all about choices. When you cut away all the junk, every situation is a choice. You choose how you react to situations. You choosehow people will affect your mood. You choose to be in a good mood or badmood. The bottom line: It’s your choice how you live life.” I reflected on whatJerry said. Soon thereafter, I left the restaurant industry to start my own business. We lost touch, but I often thought about him when I made a choice about lifeinstead of reacting to it. Several years later, I heard that Jerry did somethingyou are never supposed to do in a restaurant business: he left the back door openone morning and was held up at gun point by three armed robbers. While tryingto open the safe, his hand, shaking from nervousness, slipped off the combinationlock. The robbers panicked and shot him. Luckily, Jerry was found relativelyquickly and rushed to the local trauma center. After 18 hours of surgery andweeks of intensive care, Jerry was released from the hospital with fragments ofthe bullets still in his body. I saw Jerry about six months after the incident. When I asked how he was, he replied, “If I were any better, I’d be twins. Wannasee my scars?” I declined to see his wounds, but did ask him what had gonethrough his mind as the robbery took place. “The first thing that went throughmy mind was that I should have locked the back door,” Jerry replied. “Then, asI lay on the floor, I remembered that I had two choices: I could choose to live, orI could choose to die. I chose to live.” “Weren’t you scared? Did you loseconsciousness?” I asked. Jerry continued, “The paramedics were great. Theykept telling me I was going to be fine. But when they wheeled me into theemergency room and I saw the expressions on the faces of the doctors and nurses,I got really scared. In their eyes, I read, ‘He’s a dead man.’ I knew I needed totake action.” “What did you do?” I asked. “Well, there was a big, burly nurseshouting questions at me.” said Jerry. “She asked if I was allergic to anything.‘Yes.’ I replied. The doctors and nurses stopped working as they waited for myreply. I took a deep breath and yelled, ‘Bullets!’ Over their laughter, I told them,‘I am choosing to live. Operate on me as if I am alive, not dead.’” Jerry livedthanks to the skill of his doctors, but also because of his amazing attitude. Ilearned from him that every day we have the choice to live fully.

Attitude, after all, is everything.

The 2003" TPFC International Rally”was held in Columbia, MO. on October7th, 8th & 9th, and was a great success. TheHeart of America club all stepped up tothe tasks at hand and did a great job incarrying out their assignments. We alsohad a lot of good help from the GatewayClub from St. Louis, MO. Everyone wasfaced with multiple assignmentsthroughout the Rally planning andeventually the Rally itself. They all did afantastic wine and cheese party and lotsof “good ole” country hospitality.

During the day we had variousvendors in the pavilion displaying theirproducts and providing seminars on avariety of topics. Seminars on tire andweight safety, towing and braking, fire and life safety, health and medicine costs, traveling with pets and driving safer as we age, were all well attended. Outsidewe had three R/V dealers with various rigs on display.

The three tours: 1. Thecasino trip to Booneville, 2.The downtown tour to theMartin house, the candyfactory, the museum ofAnthropology@ MU andlunch in downtownColumbia, 3. The Fultontour to the “WinstonChurchill Memorial.” the”Berlin Wall” display andthe “Antique Car Museum”

were all enjoyed by those who went.

It was evident thatthose 478 of us thatattended like to eat as wehad 327 at the breakfast,399 at lunch and 449 atdinner to enjoy the finefood that was provided byChris Cakes and NemoFood Promotions.

The evenings werehighlighted by the greatentertainment we hadbooked for the Rally. “Carl Zschiegner, Loech & Hall” and” The Heart ofMissouri “chorus all provided us with three evenings of great entertainment.

In addition to all of this, throughout the Rally, we gave out over 200 doorprizes and gifts with the Hillbilly auction and the “Pot of Gold” raffle being big

attractions and getting a lotof participation.

I want to commend the“Boone CountyFairgrounds” and theirmanager and staff for all oftheir help and guidance inproviding us a great facility

Herman City Park, MOJuly 18 thru 20th, 2003

Mike decided to go the back way from where we live to Herman. I settledin for a nice drive and all of a sudden we were there. Here it was only 41 milesfrom our house to Herman City Park. Of course it was two lane very narrowroad but with enough to drink I didn’t mind at all. Most everyone else was thereby the time we got there on Friday. Our CO hosts the Savages were a littleunder the weather (Chris fell and hurt her arm) so we asked the Edwards to helpalso. Jim had already iced up the watermelons so it was just set up the camperand visit for a while with all our friends. A shady tree, a comfortable lawn chairand an icy drink –life is good.

After dinner Sandy proceeded to get out her very dangerous knife and cutup the Watermelon that was iced down just right. We made short work of twowatermelons and then it was time for the seed_spitting contest. Some were tooshy to join in but all gave catcalls as those brave souls lined up to give it a try.Nancy Singletary was our winner—she can spit just like a pro. Jan Robinsonneeds a few lessons. The rest of the evening was spent with some playing cardsand some just exchanging tall tales.

Saturday dawned with a promise of sunshine and warm weather. The meeting was called to order by Sandy Edwards at 10:00a.m.The secretary forgot the minutes so they were approved as received. The treasurerwas missing in action again but she called the Wagonperson with the balance inthe bank of $415.00. Karen Schenck asked Herman Singletary if he wouldtrade Wagonperson years with her because of health reasons. Herman agreed—so it now will read Herman Singletary Wagonmaster for 2004 and Karen SchenckWagonperson for 2005. All of the above was made into a motion by Jack Schenckand seconded by Ginney McClaskey. The motion was approved.

Old Business:The Hosts said that the Wine and cheese had been changed to Chocolate Wafflesand ice cream. The Singletary’s said the Christmas party will be December 7that Berkshire GrillNatural Bridge and St. Charles Rock Road.

New Business:Jim Ellis and Herman Singletary will do the church Service at the Internationalon Sunday. A lengthy discussion followed on the International and the requestfor our help.It was decided that Sandy would call Kansas City and find out the cost for thedays before the rally begins. Sandy found out that they would like us there forSaturday to park the rigs as they come in. Because of the cost per night somemembers are coming in on Friday and some on Saturday morning before10:00a.m. The Kansas City group will be there on Thursday.

Great Rivers RallyTreasurers report $200.00 to Bandanna’s and $126.00 to Southern Patch

Co. Camping may start on Friday night. Sandy has gotten a call asking, “Where

in the hell is Villa Ridge”. Being our fearless leader Sandy gave him instructionson how to get to Villa Ridge. .Wilbur and Mildred Moeller were the first to register. The following is a thumb nail sketch of who is doing what.Sunday—Church service Herman Singletary and Lou HoehleSunday Evening_Welcoming Janice Jackson and Kathy Boeckmann will set up

Rally in Burlington Colorado and the T.P.F.C. International in Columbia, Missouri. Nothing outside of enjoyableseems to sum up the camping experience that we all had. Many more memories were made due to our ampleFamily Camper attendance and campaigning efforts. We were victorious in attaining our very own “Joe Venuti”as the new International Director of the T.P.F.C., replacing Dallas Leier who accepted the position of InternationalAdministrator, replacing Bob Bonn who retired. Joe, upon receiving his nomination, immediately called onour own Maryann Bench to continue her attributes as International Secretary of the T.P.F.C. Arizona familyCampers should feel mighty proud to host all the new officers and continue to support future growth to theT.P.F.C. organization.

Carol Geiss, our Secretary, has contributed the latest on ourOctober travels:Burlington, Colorado was the location for the Rocky MountainRally, hosted by the Colorado-Wyoming Telephone FamilyCampers. Approximately 40 rigs from seven states gathered at miller R.V. Park. Fourteen rigs were in attendancefrom Arizona. Two of these were CSB’s. Thursday morning, the official start of the rally, brought cold weather, windand rain. Most people stayed in their rigs most of the day dueto the weather. Arrangements were made for us to have use ofthe saloon at Burlington’s “Old Town” and by 5:00 P.M. a goodcrowd had gathered at the saloon for munchies and mingling.A catered dinner followed in the museum building, which I wastold, was very good.

Friday Morning dawned beautifully. Some went to the saloon for coffee and donuts while others waitedto show up for the carousel ride and bar-b-que lunch; even thought this reporter did not attend. I understandit was all very nice and everyone especially enjoyed the carousel, a national historic landmark. I did showup after lunch to see the can-can dancers, which came form the local high school and also from the Colorado-

Wyoming Family Campers. What good sports Doug Cook and Ron Hathaway were to dress up as can-can dancers toentertain us, along with the girls. Bob Mead was Chosen “Big Spender” by the Girls as they serenaded him. Betty isstill laughing about that. She said ‘NOT.” Free time after the show to see “Our Town” or check out Burlington.Games and cards in the campground office in the evening and getting ready to leave in the morning for International. Thanks to Doug and Viola Cook and those that helped them for all their hard work and making this an enjoyablegathering.

Where: Montreal Quebec Canada • When: May 15th , 17th and 18th 2006In 2002 after having been challenged by the TPFC in the Eastern Region, Colette and I decided to host a nonofficial rally near Montreal. Every one enjoyed their visit and word got around that the rally was a success. The report may be read on the TPFC internet site www.tpfc.net then click “States” then “Pennsylvania” Onthe opening page of the Keystone Roamers, click “pictures” then “2002 Montreal Rally” There is a verygood description of the things to do and see in the area. The campground where the rally will take place mayalso be checked at www.campingalouette.comWhen we attended the NEAR Rally in the Fall of 2002, we were approached by many members and executivesincluding the region VP. to organize the International Rally for 2006. Since we do not have a local TPFCclub in the area the rally will be supported by the Eastern Region and it will take place near Montreal. Thisrally will be a team effort: Every club in the regionwill have an area of responsibility in the preparationand hosting such an event. It is also possible to extend the rally into a 2 or 3

Past Message.... continued from page 8and all others that helped. The “Country Cousins”

really had a GREAT Rally.

On Monday the tours started and you could go

to various places. Some of the Pioneers went on the

Casino tour; some came back happy, some not so

happy. Then we had the downtown Columbia tour.

The tour included, the Martin House Mall, a Candy

Factory (hum good), and the Museum of

Anthropology at Missouri University (very

interesting). Tuesday’s tours went to Fulton, MO.

We went to an Antique car Museum, (the Dairy

Queen next door received a lot of extra business)

and the Winston Churchill Memorial and we where

able to see a section of the Berlin Wall. Two very

interesting places. Now talk about interesting

seminars. To name just a few. Towing and Braking,

Tire Safety, Fire and Life Safety with a Live Burn

Demonstration that you could participate in. There

where vendors and RV dealers. With all of the many

different actives going on a person didn’t have much

time to eat and sleep.

At the opening ceremonies the Columbia City

Fire Department presented the colors. Linda

Pippenger gave the invocation. A singer from the

Stephens College of Music led us in the United States

and Canadian National Anthems. We had speakers

from the County Commissioner, Fairground

Manager, Convention Service Manager and Lou

Hoehle from the TPFC.

We had about 225 RV’s and several of the TPFC

members staying at the near by motels.

At the Columbia Missouri 2003 Rally we had

two nominations for the International Director:

Charlie Robinson and Joe Venuti and one nomination

for Central Region V-P; Jim Patterson. A paper ballot

vote was taken for the International Director’s

position and Joe Venuti was elected. Thank you

Charlie and Joe for running for this position.

Congratulations Joe. Jim Patterson ran unopposed.

Thank You, Jim for the past 3 years as the Central

Region V-P and we look forward to the next 3 years.

Thank You to Mickey Haydel for serving on the

executive board these past years.

April 15th, 2004 is the last day for nominations

Roger Desaultels from Quebec Canada made a

bid to hold the 2006 International near Montreal,

Quebec. They won the bid and plan to hold the rally

in May of 2006. Thank you Roger for stepping

forward to make a bid for the rally. Lorna and I are

looking forward to your rally near Montreal and hope

a lot of others are doing the same. I am sure that you

will have a lot of help from the NEAR, Pioneer

Family Campers.

Dave Hemmer from the 10,000 Lakes Family

Campers in Minnesota made a bid to hold the 2007

International Rally at the Winnebago Industry

Factory Campground in Forest City Iowa. They won

the bid and plan to hold the rally in August of 2007.

Thank You, Dave for the Central Region bid. We

look forward to seeing the Winnebago facilities and

campground.

The weather was a little cool and we did have a little

rain. On the last evening Bob & June Bonn let us on

a parade through the campground in our vehicles

because it was too muddy to walk.

Howard Jarrell, the International Wagon master

and a host of Pioneers from Colorado and Wyoming

have been working diligently on this years rally. This

year’s rally will be held June 13th thru the 18th.

“WYOMING – 2004 PARTY ON THE

PRAIRIE.” The rally will be held at the “Cam-Plex

Multi Event Facilities, Gillette, Wyoming. They have

the tours listed on the state Colorado/Wyoming web

site. Check it out for some very interesting tours.

At the 2004 International Rally in Gillette we

will be accepting bids from the Western Region for

the International Rally in 2008 and from the Central

Region for the International Rally in 2009.

Have you checked the TPFC.NET web site

lately? More clubs now have their own web site.

We then link that web site from the International

TPFC web site. We would like to see more of the

clubs have a web site. You can change dates and

make corrections as necessary. It sure is nice when

you are traveling to take a look at the state web site

to see if there are any campouts in that area.

Please send news items, photos, dates and places

& June Bonn, Slim Zimmerman, Joe Venuti, Jim

Persing, Jim Patterson and the many others for their

definite asset to the potlucks. Cheesecake at a camp out, oh yeah. After dishes and clean up then Mike and I got busy with the waffles and ice cream.

They were very good if I must say so. Then the women proceed to play cards. Jan R. andI were partners and almost won a game but Jan assured me that if we had won it would snowthe next day. I think that is like saying a snow balls chance in hell.

Well that was about it for the weekend—we had a good time and a nice campground. The next camp out we will elect a new Wagonmaster for 2006 and a new Treasurer and

INTERNATIONALADMINISTRATOR’S MESSAGE 2004

The TPFC members that attended the Columbia, MO Rally this fall saw in a way how

I felt about this job and the good work that our previous administrator’s Bob & June Bonn

did. Although Bob was appointed the administrator I could see from the outside looking in

that June helped out a lot. They make a great team. I had worn my LARGE clown shoes on

the stage and held up my feet, one at a time, to show the members that I felt I was going to

try to fill some mighty big shoes. No clowning around, I will do my best. Over the period of

twenty years as the International Administrator, Bob & June where very dictated to the job.

They attended many TPFC campouts during this time and would spend many hours to

maintain the TPFC roster plus all of the other duties of the administrator. They would travel

many miles to spread the word about the TPFC. They wore out at least one Ford van that I

know of and now driving a Ford one-ton truck. During the past six years as your TPFC

International Director, Bob & June along with others gave me a lots of help along the way.

It is very difficult in one paragraph to express my thanks to Bob & June for the many hours

of volunteerism and dedication that they gave to the Telephone Pioneer Family Campers.

Bob & June, we THANK YOU and appreciate the effort that you have given the TPFC.

WYOMING-2004 PARTY ON THE PRAIRIE is the theme for this years rally on June

13th thru the 18th in Gillette, Wyoming. Howard Jarrell, the International Wagon master and

many others have had some of the tours lined up for a couple of years. Now comes the time

for the TPFC members to go to Gillette and enjoy what the 2004 rally team has been working

on. They have tours scheduled for: Mount Rushmore & Crazy Horse Memorial June 14th.

Deadwood South Dakota, Gold Dust Casino, Spear Fish Canyon, June 15th. Devils Tower,

June 17th and the Coal Mine tour on the 16th & 18th. If you have Internet access go the

TPFC.NET web site and check out the tours and the information on the Cam-Plex RV

Parks.

Paul Rudeen, many others and myself have been trying to bring the TPFC roster up to

date. Bob & June had said that this was a constant battle and that it would take many hours

of your time. It seems like when people move they just don’t let us know that they have

moved. Then in a year or so they wonder why they are not receiving the “Hello Central.” So

please send us this change of address so that the “Hello Central” can come to your correct

address. We send the “Hello Central” bulk mail, so if we send it to the incorrect address it

will go to the dead letter office.

We are going to try something a little different in the next year or two with the TPFC

members that have a winter address. If you have a winter address and are there until the 30th

of April each year, send us that address. We are going to put some flags in the roster database

so that when we send out the “Hello Central” it will go to your winter address. This way we

will do only one mailing. It will save the TPFC postage. In past years when the “snowbirds”

went back to their summer address we would then send out the “Hello Central” first class.

I would like to THANK the TPFC members that have already sent in their 2004

DONATION to keep the TPFC going. The members that have not yet sent in there donations

for this year, we need your support. The TPFC doesn’t receive any financial support from

outside of our members.

Thank you, Bruce Tracy for being the TPFC.NET web site coordinator and thank

you to the many others that have or have offered to help me on this new assignment.

Signed, Dallas Leier, International Administrator

Dallas reported that there were many hits on our website. He would like to see more states on thewebsite. People can check if they are in the area to see if any club is having a rally. Dallas thankedBruce Tracy for being Webmaster. Bob Bonn stated that we need to find a way to arrange payment forthe website. Dallas thinks we should go to the use of a debit card billed to the TPFC. The cost is $7.95a month. It is $3.00 extra to get a bill so we need to change out method of payment. A letter to bewritten to transfer the billing.

Rotation of Vice Presidents:Jim Persing stated that the Northeast Region Clubs feel that the Vice President rotation should bechanged to a 4-year rotation so it will coincide with the International Rally. That way the Rally will beheld in the same Region in which a new Vice President needs to be elected. Right now it falls out ofsynch. A discussion on how to solve this problem followed. Should there be a committee to look intothis problem? Should the Rally area rotation Be WCE, WCE or WCECWECE? Many people cometo the International rally when it is Central because it draws from both coasts. There has been a lossof clubs in the Northeast, no clubs in upper NY, NH, VT, and MA. Dallas decided the Region VicePresidents should look into this and bring their conclusions back to next years’s Committee Meeting.

Changes to the ITPFC Constitution:Article I, Section 2, gives an official address for the TPFC that no longer exists. Do we need to havean address in this section? Can we use the current International Administrator’s address? On a motion by Jim Patterson, seconded by MickeyHaydel, Article I, Section 3 of the TPFC Constitution was changed to read: The territory of TelephoneFamily Campers shall be the following boundary lines as established to be applicable to holding theInternational Rallies.

Other New Business:Bob Mead asked if it is OK for guests to attend in International Rally and can they use a registrationform? A guest will be allowed if there is room and has to be accepted by the host club of the InternationalRally. A guest has no voting rights and they should use a regular registration form and indicate thatthey are a guest of an official member. Don Tracy motioned that the International send a letter to eachClub that suggests that they send a $5 fee for each member as a club annual donation. Jim Pattersonamended the motion that each club contributes a donation to use as a door prize at the InternationalRally. A letter may be sent or this request may be stated in the Hello Central.
