1 PROGRAMME 6 th Annual Air Quality Governance Lekgotla Premier Hotel Regent, East London, 10-12 October 2011 “LOCAL AUTHORIES ARE TAKING THE LEAD” It is a year since the National Environmental Management: Air Quality Act, 2004 (Act No. 39 of 2004) (AQA) came into full effect, with the movement of emission licensing functions from the national department to provinces, metropolitans and district municipalities. Therefore, the 2011 lekgotla will focus on projects implemented by local authorities that will lead to measurable improvements in air quality. LEKGOTLA OBJECTIVE All government air quality managers, through the knowledge of what can and should be done gained during the lekgotla, are inspired to build, strengthen and/ or fine-tune their immediate air quality interventions that contribute to a better life for all.

“LOCAL AUTHORIES ARE TAKING THE LEAD”

It is a year since the National Environmental Management: Air Quality Act, 2004 (Act No. 39 of 2004) (AQA) came into full effect, with the movement of emission licensing functions from the national department to provinces, metropolitans and district municipalities. Therefore, the 2011 lekgotla will focus on projects implemented by local authorities that will lead to measurable improvements in air quality.

LEKGOTLA OBJECTIVE

All government air quality managers, through the knowledge of what can and should be done gained during the lekgotla, are inspired to build, strengthen and/ or fine-tune their immediate air quality interventions that contribute to a better life for all.
