ANNUAL REPORT

The following is a summary of our school’s Annual Report;

OVERVIEW

2011 was a significant year for Lynbrook Primary School with our inaugural 2005 Preps completing their final year of primary school. These children have seen the school continue to grow from 175 to 830 children. The school has continued to refine its programs so that student engagement and academic learning show ongoing improvement. The staff of the school has continued to grow. 2011 has seen the appointment of 2 new Assistant Principals. The school has 56 equivalent full time teachers and 25 Education Support Staff.

A senior curriculum leadership team has been developed to unpack the Australian Curriculum and adapt it to the school's needs. Inquiry has been a major focus and this process will be documented by the entire staff so that consistent teaching and learning objectives are met

The school continues to value its cultural diversity and 2011 saw tours to India and New Zealand by selected staff members. Involvement in a state wide study on understanding cultural diversity and its implications on student learning has resulted in a changed curriculum focus in this area and this will continue to develop in future years.

Student achievement continues to be positive throughout the school and the commitment and professionalism of teachers is a feature of the school. Teachers continue to grow through professional development and a large team of teachers have completed a University course focussing on individualised learning.

STUDENT LEARNING

All measured outcomes are similar to comparison schools with NAPLAN numeracy being above in year 3.

All classroom teachers attend a weekly Professional Learning Team meeting where the focus is directed at improved student outcomes in all curriculum areas. Assessment is used as a diagnostic tool to guide teaching and learning strategies. Individual learning goals are considered and children's individual needs are a focus of teacher professional discussion.

The school has adopted a spelling program that builds from Prep through to Year 6, beginning with a focus on letter sounds and blends in order to scaffold and support student achievement and learning.

Lynbrook is developing its own Inquiry Program, where the teachers focus is on building children's skills in a range of areas and disciplines. It focuses on the content of the Australian Curriculum and builds in opportunities to explore their own areas of interest in the context of Departmental requirements.

Reminders Tuesday 1st May -Photo Day- Every student must present their own envelope to the Photographer on

photo day, even if money is included in brother or sister’s envelope. Family forms to 1 student only.

well being program can not be underestimated.

Activities to promote engagement include; outdoor education - camps, hiking, water safety, bike education, hiking, cooking, tent setup, surfing etc are all well supported and extremely successful. Attention will be given to those children who do not participate due to finance or cultural beliefs. The performing arts program is of the highest quality and chil-dren willingly take part in school productions, instrumental lessons and numerous school events. From the Art room….studio 1

Well it’s the first week back, and the Prep students have finished off their “Under Every Dream is a Rainbow” pictures. Grade 2 students started designing their “friendly monster” collage, using mixed media and some recycled materials.

This Term’s topic of “sustainability” is a wonderful opportunity for parents and families to clean out and bring along any usable materials for the art rooms. A particular thank you to those fami-lies who have bought shoe boxes, numerous buttons, ribbons, wool and materials… these are wonderful resources that help support the creative projects made by the students each term. Thank you again! Any further donations please leave at the office or outside the art rooms.

cont’ from front page

Student well being has been very well supported through a dedi-cated committee who have established programs that encourage positive behaviour. The tone of the school has been exceptional and the values displayed by all have been a credit to the school

TRANSITION

Transition programs operating throughout the school have received positive reports from all stakeholders.

The transition from Kindergarten to Prep has been well received and the teachers in this area work extremely hard to provide young children and parents with a smooth, welcoming and informative program.

Representation is included on the Network transition program and teachers at Lynbrook conducted a regional conference for infant teachers that attracted in excess of 100 teachers.

Parents take part in an extensive program where key information is disseminated and avenues of communication are established.

Secondary transition is also supported by teachers but the extent of secondary schools that are chosen by parents is quite extreme and communication can be affected.

Programs on a network basis are being developed to comple-ment both kindergarten and secondary transition.
