The face of homelessness is changing and the gap between the demand for family services and supply is widening.” — The Community Foundation of Frederick County “I found myself unemployed and homeless with two young children. My church referred to the Coalition for emergency shelter. The Coalition provided my children and I temporary shelter in a motel for a week until I could make living arrangements. During that week, I found a job and an apartment! Without the Coalition’s help I know I would have been homeless and unemployed longer than that and probably living in my car.” From a client that received Emergency Shelter (motel placement) from the Coalition “I am a single mom with two children. I was recently evicted from my apartment and had no place to go with my children. With the help of the Coalition, we were able to have short term assistance in a motel and stay together.” From a client that received Emergency Shelter (motel placement) from the Coalition There are 590 homeless adults and children in Frederick County Future site of the Day Shelter program of the Emergency Family Shelter for Frederick County

In 1990 the Religious Coalition for Emergency Human Needs responded to a community need and established the Cold Weather Shelter to provide shelter for homeless individuals.

Since that time, the Religious Coalition for Emergency Human Needs has seen hundreds of families with children who are homeless and need of shelter; our temporary motel placement program has helped meet some of this need.

WE ARE EXCITED TO ANNOUNCE that this year we will launch our newest program, the Emergency Family Shelter for Frederick County, a 90-day emergency shelter program for families with children. This program will address one of the largest unmet needs in our community.
