    • Objective: to gain more involvement in different areas (committees of people) to allow for collaboration

    • Expectation: Underclassmen parents will be heavily involved.

    • Senior parents focus on senior centered activities and work as “consultants”. They should enjoy their student-athlete’s senior year.

  • Athlete Expectations

    • The next several slides will go over athlete expectations.

  • Team Culture

    • Culture is vital in success so we consistently strive for the following in accordance with our vision:

    Positive energy TeamworkRespectIntegrity filledConsistentOverall Excellence

  • • Be a great teammate first and foremost– We will spend much time discussing what this looks,

    sounds, feels like

    • Be respectful and show genuine care to everyone

    • Be on time “MUSTANG TIME”

    • Have goals both short and long-term and

in the pool and out of the pool

    • Strive to be your best self every single day– ALL Outlined in the Student-athlete handbook

  • Kingwood Handbook

    • You, as the athlete, are responsible to know the rules; Ignorance is never an excuse

    • Every athlete must sign

    • You will NOT compete until you have signed.

  • Rules and Regulations

    – Social Media

    • Monitor social media;

    • Easy to prove bad behavior

    • Has resulted in several meet suspensions

    – Vaping

    • Major problem amongst HS students in general.

    • Illegal

    • Will be suspended with possible removal from team

    • Kids sent home from state meet at another school due to vaping

  • As a Kingwood Student-Athlete you represent many things:

    – Yourself

    – Your Parents

    – Your Family

    – Your Coaches

    – Your Teachers

    – KHS Swimming and Diving

    – KHS in general

    – Clubs and organizations

    – And much more…With this in mind, our goal together is to provide you

with the best outlet to make the best possible choices. It is an honor to represent our top-notch program that is

steeped in tradition. Keep that in mind when you think a decision could jeopardize any of the aforementioned

parties, but specifically this one. If you think there may be a reason not to do something because of the list

above, then take a step back and don’t do it.

  • Student-Athlete Responsibility

    • Student comes before athlete for a reason. • No PASS = NO SWIM or DIVE • 1st grading period:

    – 6 week Progress reports Sept. 18; – 9 weeks Oct. 2

    • Use Zoom for your tutoring needs• If you are struggling, please discuss with us. We

are here to help guide you and we have athletes in our program that are willing to tutor as well.

    • All athletes sign a code of conduct will be posted on the website

  • Parent Responsibility

    • Be your swimmer’s biggest fan

    • Ensure swimmers are receiving their basic needs

    • Aid in arrangement of transportation if needed

    • Positive Support structure

    • Communicate positively

    • Help our athletes development of proper time management

    • Be a perspective taker and listen to your athlete

  • Communication

    • Swimmers must communicate with BOTH coaches if they are going to miss practice or meets (email, text, etc.) Athletes are responsible to do this, not parents. We are teaching them responsibility.– The reason for this is just about reliability and checks and

balances.– Failing to do so could result in a meet suspension and/or

    makeup practices.

    • Please be patient if we do not respond to an inquiry until the next day. If we don’t get back the next day, I am perfectly fine with a gentle nudge!

    • We are partners in development of our student-athletes as athletes and people first and foremost

  • Communication Take 2

    • All Parents should be signed up to [email protected] to receive emails

    • All athletes are on Remind for information

    – Schedule changes will be announced through remind.

    • Twitter @khsswimdive

    mailto:[email protected]

  • Communication Take 3

    • Humble ISD Policy:– If we need to text an athlete one-on-one we need to

    follow the following protocol:

    • Parent or other coach MUST be on the text• USA Swimming has adopted an 8 p.m. -> 8 a.m.

policy to contact individually as well which may or may not impact Coach Robinson’s ability to communicate with athletes.

Therefore, if we receive a text that is informational, we likely will not respond with a typical “thanks” answer unless you have copied both parties.

  • Chain of Communication

    • Please if there is any issue that arises or questions that you have that is swimming & diving related contact the coaches first. – Admins and AP’s will need to contact us about it

anyway and typically are not aware of the nature of the problem.

    – We can likely problem solve together – This typically makes for a speedier and more efficient

    process

    • If your needs are not met, please contact Coach Melton or Coach Willis our athletic coordinators on campus before contacting Troy Kite.

  • Website

    • Please use the website as your reference to all important information in regards to the program except daily practice which includes:– Meet Schedule

    – Practice schedules

    For Breaks

    – Handbook

    – KHS Top 10

  • HS & Club Relationship

    • We MUST be partners in developing our swimmers

    • Communication is vital

    • Regular discussions with swimmers about how they feel (broken down, injuries)

    • December Rest/Taper meets

    • HS Championship Season

  • Attendance

Student-athletes are expected to be at ALL practices and Meets

unless arranged otherwise. Communication is vital!

  • Equipment

    • Team Equipment:– A majority of the equipment is in excellent shape.

    Let’s keep it that way!

    – Clean up equipment every time you are in the pool.

    • Personal Equipment:– Lockers (keep clean and tidy if not lose privilege)

    – Store bags outside in contained area

    • Keep the Locker Room area clean.

    • IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO CLEAN UP AFTER YOURSELVES! This includes areas at meets, eating in the cafeteria after practice, the bus, etc.

  • Equipment Cont’d

    • Club athletes are prohibited from using our equipment during club practice, but can use during HS practice.

    • If you swim club once our afternoon practice has ended, you will not be able to access the locker room to retrieve your belongings.

  • If I am on JV, can I move up to Varsity?

    • Yes, we will evaluate specific cases at the end of the JV season and determine if move-ups are warranted.

    – We had several move up and compete at the district meet last season.

    • See next slide about District participation

  • How the District Team is Composed

    • Top 4 eligible swimmers in the program in each individual event with each swimmer swimming a maximum of 2 individual events.

    – NOTE: if the top 16 swimmers each swim 2 events, there could be a minimum of 16 swimmers compete at Districts

    • Relays are composed of the top 4 swimmers or at coach’s discretion swim-offs, etc. may be considered

  • District team composition cont’d

    • Depth charts or mock district lineups are created throughout the season and shared with the athletes. – We post top times, but not mock district lineups. These

are strictly internal and not to be shared.

    • Are only this season’s times considered?– We look at a variety of considerations: First, in

season times. Second, we look at past performance. Third, did a person taper to earn that time or were they suited, when someone who has the same time hasn’t been allowed that opportunity? All of this information must be taken into consideration when completing a district lineup.

  • If I don’t make the district team…

    • Our coaching staff’s goal is for everyone to get a “last” shaved, suited and rested/tapered swim.

    • We will use Senior Night against The Woodlands for a last chance for those on the “bubble” as well as possibly Non-TISCA invite and JV districts

    • We will be assessing and communicating consistently with our athletes to be as transparent as possible

  • Relays

    • In dual meets, we will swim up to four relays

    • In Championship meets:

    – In most cases (District, Region, State) there is ONLY an “A” Relay

    – This “A” Relay is a TEAM relay. When the relay advances from District Region, there can be changes to the relay and then again from Region State
