ANTIQUE CHAPTER ACTIVITIES 2017
IST QUARTER
During the 1st Quarter, the chapter had 3 CME Activities aside from the regular
weekly didactics of the Family Medicine Residents of the Practised Based Training
Program:
1. Removal of Ingrown Toenail

3. CME on Hypertension – Expect the Unexpected CME on Jardiance
Date: March 22, 2017 Venue: TOMS, San Jose, Antique Speakers; Dr. Christine Train, Dr Eleonor Valdellon
Fifteen members from the chapter including our Chapter President Dr.
Jessie Jemar Fama, our Practiced Based Training Program Chairman, Dr.
Melvin dela Serna and Our training Officer Dr. Liza Huelar Galilea also
attended the PAFP Annual Convention last March 2-4, 2017 at PICC, Manila.
The chapter also extended its hand for help as part of the Medical Team
during the 2017 West Visayas Regional Athletic Ass0ciation Meet held here
in Antique last February 4, 2017.
Valentines Day was never missed! After Didactics, The Family
Medicine Residents together with us mentors celebrated love in the air.
2nd Quarter
The 40th Installation of Officers and Promotion Ceremony of the Antique
Practiced Based Training Program in Family and Community Medicine were
held last April 1, 2017 at Kammea Beach Resort. The Chapter was very lucky
to have our PAFP President Dr. Eva Irene Yu-Maglonzo to grace the event
and to officially induct the new officers. We are also thankful to Dr. Judith
Amparado, Regional Director for Visayas for giving her full support and
presence during the event.
For the 2nd Quarter, the chapter had 4 CME sponsored activity:
1. The Impact of Rate and Pressure Control in Hypertension

4. Management of Hypertension in the 21st Century: A Multi-Disciplinary
Approach to a Multi-comorbid Hypertensive
Speaker: Dr. Christine Train- Bilbao June 7, 2017 Venue: Toms, San Jose, Antique Some members also attended the 11th PMA Annual Convention
&Scientific Meeting “Pagbabago Tungo sa Pangkahalatang Kalusugan” in
Manila while The PAFP- Antique Chapter President and Secretary, Dr.
Jessie Jemar Fama and Dr. Corelle Joy Paguntalan attended the PAFP
Leadership Summit at Microtel Pasay Manila Last June 23-24, 2017.
The Practiced Based Training Program in Family and Community
Medicine celebrated its 3rd year anniversary last May 5, 2017. As part of
the celebration, they conducted a Medical-Surgical Mission in partnership
with Antique Medical Center.
The theme for this year’s World Family Doctors Day celebration was “Pamilya Mo, Alaga Ko, Masaya Tayo”. The PAFP-Antique chapter spearheaded by our President Dr. Jessie Jemar Fama conducted a Lecture on Otitis Media on patients as well as employees at Angel Salazar Memorial General Hospital, OPD Department. Counselling and Demo on Proper Aural Hygiene were also done.
As part of the continuing medical education for family physicans, a lecture on
“Health Systems As Part Of A Cultural System (Folk and Popular Medicine) by Dr.
Barry Juanitas was held at the Family Medicine Conference Room, Antique Medical
Center, San Jose, Antique.
Finally, we ended the Day by showing our support and commitment for the
Wellness Advocacy of PAFP. That is, by joining the “Fitfit Project”, wherein the
members of the chapter commit to lose at least 5 lbs by Medicine Week on
September. Instead of Sunday, we had our 1st weighing last Friday. We are
optimistic with regards to this project, after all Family Doctors should be role model
to their patients and that is to eat right so that we can live right.
The Chapter also extended their help as Medic to fellow Antiquenos and to the
rest of the Filipinos especially to the athletes of the 2017 Palarong Pambansa which
lasted for about a week specifically on April 23-27, 2017.
3rd QUARTER
We had four CME Activities, two of which were sponsored mainly by PAFP
And the Speakers were Fellows of the Local Chapter.

3. Diagnosis Treatment and Control Of Tuberculosis
Speaker: Jose Nestor Morfe M.D. FPCP. Date: August 3, 2017 Venue: Kanyugan Restaurant, San Jose, Antique
4. Vitamin C and Zinc in Respiratory Diseases, A Healthy Conspiracy Speaker: Dr. Caesar Ong Date: August18, 2017 Venue: Kanyugan Restaurant, San Jose, Antique
Last August 19 and 29, 2017, the PAFP-Iloilo Chapter in cooperation with the
National Chapter sponsored two postgraduate courses, “Workshop on Community
oriented Primary Care and Interpersonal Education for Family Medicine Training
“ and “Multiple Facets of Primary Care” respectively. They were also actively
attended by PBRT Family Medicine Residents as well as their mentors and other
PAFP members.
As for Community Activities, the chapter organized a free Medical
Consutation and Treatment for 80 Senior Citizen Members of Dating Daan
Religious Group. This activity was held last August 28, 2017 at Madrangca
San Jose, Antique and was headed by Drs. Liza Huelar Galilea and Phobe
Cora Javier.
As part of the Anti-smoking Advocacy, the chapter conducted a lecture on the
“Effects Of Smoking” among Boy Scouts of the Philippines with Dr Liza Huelar Galilea
as Guest Speaker last September 14, 2017 at San Pedro San Jose, Antique.
During the Medicine Week last September 24-30, 2017, the Chapter also
participated along with the Antique Medical Society on several activities such as
Wreath Laying for our National Hero Dr. Jose Rizal, Lecture on Anti-Smoking and
Beach Clean Up Drive. The Chapter also conducted a lecture on “Ways To
Proper Breastfeeding” among postpartum Mothers of Angel Salazar Memorial
General Hospital with Dr. Rosalinda, A senior Family Medicine Resident as
speaker.
Lastly, Residents and Mentors along with the Chairman and Training Officer,
Dr Melvin dela Serna and Dr. Liza Huelar Galilea respectively, of the lone
Practiced Based Training Program in Family and Community Medicine prepared
for its accreditation last november 26, 2017. Accreditors from the PAFP National
were Dr. Josefina Lapena, Dr. Lina Rabara and Dr. Feliciano-Pagniran.
Thankfully, the Department was accredited on its first phase.
