Anti-wrinkle Treatments

Cosmetic Injections

Every time you smile, laugh or frown, delicate muscles under your facial skin contract, causing worry lines, crows’ feet, laughter lines and other wrinkles that can make you look older than you are. Scientists call lines of this kind, “dynamic” wrinkles. A procedure known as cosmetic injections (formerly known as Botox™) to relax these facial muscles and keep them from contracting. After the procedure, the skin over the treated muscle remains smooth and unwrinkled whilst other, untreated, facial muscles contract in normal fashion, so your normal facial expressions are unaffected.

Botox™ injections

•Botox™ injections have been used safely and effectively for over ten years to treat eye and nerve conditions. Each year, thousands of people receive these treatments for a variety of causes and it has become an increasingly popular treatment for reversing visible signs of aging.

•By smoothing out “dynamic” wrinkles, Botox™ treatments can give you a more youthful and pleasant appearance.

•These treatments, however, cannot improve wrinkles due to aging or sun damage, as these wrinkles are not caused by muscle contractions. Nor will the treatments improve sagging skin or take the place of a face lift.

Understanding your treatment

•Cosmetic injections Botox™ using is a safe and simple procedure. Using a tiny needle, your practitioner will inject a small amount of the drug very carefully and precisely into several points on your face.

•Because the needle is so fine and only a small amount of liquid is injected, the discomfort associated with the injections is minimal.

•No sedation or local anesthetic is required and you can resume your normal activities at once. You can even drive yourself home or back to work.

•You should, however, avoid exercise for four hours after your treatment, as well as facial massage and any activity that requires you to bend over repeatedly. During this time you should also remain upright.

Evaluating side effects and limitations

•While Botox™ injections are an effective treatment for dynamic wrinkles, they are a temporary solution. The effects of the injections last from three to four months, so you will likely need to have injections about three times a year.

•How long the effects of treatment last varies from patient to patient, and the treatment may be less effective for people over 65 years of age.

•Early clinical studies indicate that the duration of treatment benefits increases over time, so you may require injections less frequently as time goes on.

•The risk of side effects depends on the muscles that are injected. Your surgeon will discuss this with you before treatment.

•The most common side effect is bruising, which can be easily covered by make-up.

•In some cases, the Botox™ can migrate and cause temporary weakness in nearby muscles.

•In rare cases, treatment may cause an eyelid to droop or produce asymmetry of facial expression.

Dermal Fillers

•Restylane™ is a gel that is injected into the skin to lift up wrinkles and add fullness to the lips. Technically known as hyaluronic acid, it is a natural substance found throughout the body. It lubricates

our joints, gives our eyes their shape and provides volume to the skin.

•Injected by your practioner in small amounts, Restylane can lift up wrinkles to the level of the surrounding skin and enhance the contours of the lips.

•Restylane is most commonly used in the area between the eyebrows, and in the folds that occur from the nostrils to the angle of the mouth, although other sites can also be treated. It is also used to accentuate the border of the lips and give them added volume.

•Extremely deep wrinkles and some types of acne scars, however, do not respond to thetreatment.

Understanding your treatment

• •Treatment with Restylane is both quick and easy. No allergy test is needed so the treatment, which takes about 30 minutes, can be carried out at once.

•While the injections used to treat wrinkles and folds do not hurt, a mild skin cream anaesthetic is used before treatment to avoid any sensation.

•Lip treatment with Restylane is uncomfortable so a local anaesthetic is normally used.

•Once the Restylane is injected it cannot be removed, however, since it is a natural material it dissolves over time.

Results

Dermaroller™ Therapy™ is not a quick fix, it requires several treatments and results, although not immediate, are long lasting – taking a few weeks to establish. Dermaroller™ Therapy™ is normally offered as a course of 1-3 treatments depending on your individual needs.

Tejal will carry out a detailed consultation prior to the Dermaroller™ Therapy™ procedure to create a bespoke treatment for your individual needs.

Procedure

Firstly, Tejal will apply an anesthetic cream to the area to be treated; this will be left on for 30 minutes to take effect. Once the cream is removed the Dermaroller™ is rolled across the skin to make thousands of tiny puncture marks in the skin. These tiny punctures cause the body to produce new skin cells and collagen as it heals itself. The whole procedure will take approximately one hour, depending upon the areas to be treated. Treatments are normally offered 6 weeks apart to allow new collagen to grow.

DERMAL FILLERS FOR LIP ENHANCEMENT

Restylane is a gel that is injected into the skin in order to add volume. It lifts up wrinkles and can add fullness to the lips. Restylane is a volume replacement filler that is very similar to a naturally occurring substance in the body and is used to replace lost skin tissue. Restylane's technical name is hyaluronic acid. How does Restylane ™ work?

A practioner injects small amounts of Restylane directly into the skin and it lifts up the wrinkle or gives more volume to the lips. Wrinkles can be raised to the level of the surrounding skin and the contours of the lips can be enhanced to the desired level.

What kinds of areas can be treated?

The most common areas are between the eyebrows, the folds from nostril to the angle of the mouth and the lips, but other sites can also be treated.

What results can be obtained from lip treatment?

The border can be accentuated and the lips can be given more volume.

What areas cannot be helped by restylane?

Very deep wrinkles and some types of acne scars cannot usually be treated.

What is treatment with restylane like?

Treatment with Restylane is a very easy and quick process. Since no allergy test is needed, the treatment can be carried out immediately and takes about 30 minutes.

Do the injections hurt?

No, but clearly there will be some sensation from the procedure. Usually a skin cream anesthetic is used for the treatment of wrinkles and folds. Lip treatment is quite uncomfortable and therefore a local anesthetic is normally used.

Can the material be removed?

No, but since Restylane is a natural material it dissolves with time.

Is it safe?

The hyaluronic acid in Restylane is almost identical to that already present in the body. Also, since the hyaluronic acid in Restylane is not made from animals, there is no risk of transmitting diseases from animals or causing allergic reactions. Immediately after the treatment site can be slightly swollen and red. This is a normal result of the injection, and generally goes away in a day or two after injection into the skin and within a week after injection into the lips.

Are there any other types of reactions that may occur?

Yes. If you have previously suffered from facial cold sores, there is a risk that the needle punctures could contribute to another cold sore eruption. If you are using aspirin or any similar medication, you should be aware that these may increase the bruising and bleeding at the injection site.

How long does the effect last?

Since Restylane is a substance very similar to your own skin, eventually the implant totally disappears from the body. Restylane is effective for 9 months for wrinkles and 6 months when used to plump the lips

What will my skin look like without touch-up treatment?

The correction will gradually disappear until your skin looks just as it did before the treatment. Touch-up injections will help you maintain your new appearance.

Chemical skin peels

Chemical Peel / TCA

• Most commonly performed to enhance your appearance and your self-confidence, the chemical peel can also remove pre-cancerous skin growths, soften acne facial scars and even control acne.

•The chemical solution aims to improve and smooth the texture of the facial skin by removing its maged layers. It is recommended to people with facial blemishes, wrinkles and uneven skin pigmentation.

•We recommend the trichloroacetic acid peel (TCA). It is a less invasive, medium depth peel,targeting

surface wrinkles and blemishes.

The TCA:

Smoothes out fine surface wrinkles

•Removes superficial blemishes

•Corrects pigment problems

•Can be used also on neck or other body areas

•May require pre-treatment with Retin-A or AHA creams

•Takes only 10-15 minutes

The procedure

•The chemical peel procedure involves applying a chemical solution that actually burns away the uppermost layer of the skin. After thoroughly cleansing the skin, your practitioner will carefully apply the solution, usually only to problem areas. In case you need a full face peel, the solution is applied everywhere but the eyes, brows and lips. You will feel a slight burning sensation as the solution is applied but it goes away quickly as the chemical itself acts like an anaesthetic.

•A full-face TCA peel usually takes no more than 15 minutes. Two or more TCA peels spaced out over several months may be needed to obtain the desired result. Your practitioner may recommend mild TCA peels be repeated once month.

Recovery

•After a TCA peel, your practitioner may prescribe a mild pain medication to relieve any tingling or throbbing you may feel. It is important to follow your practioner’s specific instructions in order for your face to heal properly. You may experience significant swelling, depending on the strength of the peel used. The new skin will surface within 5 to 10 days.

•Your healed skin will be able to produce pigment as always, as the peel will not bleach the skin. However, your practitioner will advise you to avoid sun exposure for several months after treatment to protect the newly formed layers of skin.

• The moderate discomfort and mild swelling you may experience will fade away within the first week. You may return to work and resume some of your normal activities in about two weeks. After the healing process is done, your skin will be noticeably smoother and fresher-looking
