The IAMC volunteers from 10 states across US collected signatures on hundreds of petitions after Jumah prayers and other community events and were also involved in a rigorous phone and letter campaign urging the congresspersons to maintain the visa ban on Narendra Modi. As a result 25 lawmakers (Democrats and Republicans) agreed to write a bipartisan letter to the State Department calling for continuation of the ban. In a press conference on December 4, 2012 outside Capitol Hill, Congressmen Joe Pitts along with Frank Wolf, Keith Ellison and Trent Franks urged the State Department to maintain the same policy on Mr. Narendra Modi in light of his complicity in horrific human rights violations. This was covered widely in Indian and international media and was portrayed as a set back to Narendra Modi’s prime ministerial ambitions. With Almighty Allah’s (swt) help first and foremost, followed by the hard work and commitment from IAMC volunteers we were able to accomplish this important milestone. As a campaign manager, I would like to thank you and the leadership for taking a lead in securing the signatures of the Congresspersons from MD and VA. May Allah (swt) accept and reward you all in abundance --aameen.
