Friday 11th April 2014 Issue 28 Message from the Principal Dear Parents Easter Holidays! How quickly the half term has gone. I would like to thank you all, very much, for the wonderful welcome I have received, not only from your children, but from yourselves. It has been such a lovely start for me as Principal! Houses Your child has been allocated a new house, and from next term, House Points will be awarded. At the end of each half term a House Point Trophy will be awarded. Using a House Point System, ensures that children are working collectively and not just for themselves, having a sense of pride in their House. In September, House and Vice Captains will be elected, by the children, from Year 3. Sports Day this year will be run as a House competition and the House Sports Trophy will be awarded at the end of the day. Summer Uniform Hopefully the sun will shine next term and it will get warmer! If you wish to send your daughter in summer dresses – please do! (Navy blue and white gingham check). Friends of School We had a great meeting this week, with lots of ideas for fund raising. Look out for the “FOURS” Newsletter after the holiday - “Friends of Our School”! Phonics Evening Many thanks to all the parents who came to the Year 1 Phonics Evening this week. It was a really informative session with Miss P Chandarana and Miss S Rai. Education City We are trialling in school a new software package to aid learning and teaching – called Education City. I have secured a free home access trial for 21 days. Attached with this Newsletter, is the information you need for the holiday period. I would very much welcome your feedback on the package, do let your class teacher know. We will also be asking your children about their experiences with it. Your views are very important, so let me know! Sainsbury’s Vouchers These finish at the end of May. Please can we have a huge effort to collect the tokens – ask family and friends too. The equipment we will purchase with them is of such good quality! I will ensure the collection box is outside the Worship Hall each morning, as a reminder!! Message from the Principal

Dear Parents

Easter Holidays! How quickly the half term has gone.

I would like to thank you all, very much, for the wonderful welcome I have received, not only from your children, but

from yourselves. It has been such a lovely start for me as Principal!

Houses Your child has been allocated a new house, and from next term, House Points will be awarded. At the end of each

half term a House Point Trophy will be awarded. Using a House Point System, ensures that children are working

collectively and not just for themselves, having a sense of pride in their House.

In September, House and Vice Captains will be elected, by the children, from Year 3. Sports Day this year will be run

Year 1 Stay & Read:

Thursdays 8-8.25am.

Four parents per Year 1 class.

Year 2 – currently no stay and read sessions. They will resume in summer, term 2.

How it used to be Mrs Achurch, a local resident from Evington, came

into school to give a talk to the Yr 1 children on

Tuesday 8th April. The children found it fascinating to

hear about how life used to be, especially the houses

and how people used to live. They had lots of

questions to ask.

EYFS TRIP TO STONEHURST FARM

EYFS enjoyed glorious weather for their trip to the farm. On arrival we were greeted by a family of chickens! The children experienced a variety of farm animals such as pigs, cows and sheep. They collected eggs from the chicken coupes, watched chicks hatching from eggs and also saw a lamb being born! The children went on a nature walk where they hunted for mini beasts and went pond dipping. One of the highlights of the trip was climbing the steep hill and rolling down.

Year 2 Geography Project

On Friday 11th April (last day of term), as part of our

“Where in the World” Geography Project, we will

be having a special day about India. Year 2

children are asked to come to school with a bag

packed as though they were going on holiday to

India – e.g. things for a hot climate.

Toys from the Past Year 1 will be learning about toys from the past and present in the summer term. If you have any unwanted toys (old or more recent) then please can Year 1 have them. If any grandmas/granddads want to come and talk to the Y1 children about the kind of toys that they played with and share photos/artefacts, then please see Year 1 teachers for this to be arranged.

Plimsolls

Please ensure that your child's plimsolls are in

good condition. It is important that children are

wearing the correct size and that they are

secure from the front and back to avoid any

accidents.

Labels

Please ensure that all uniforms and PE kits are re-labelled with a permanent pen or labels. If you have used a biro pen, then please re-label your child's belongings.

Sunglasses, caps and sun cream

Sun cream – must be applied from home

Caps – please ensure that they are labelled

No sunglasses due to Health and Safety regulations.

Austerity of the body consists in

worship of the Supreme Lord, the

superiors like the father and mother,

and in cleanliness, simplicity, celibacy

and nonviolence

Jonah has enjoyed the many

children who have come to Mrs

Lawson’s office to see the Cuckoo

Clock. Everyone has found it very

funny, but Jonah feels left out!

Visitors to see him from time to

time………….. might cheer him up!
