Small traders, known for
opposing foreign investmentin their business, may set upshop in American electroniccommerce company eBaysonline marketplace. Sometrade bodies that already sellon eBay are expanding theirpresence.
The Bharatiya JanataPartys prime ministerialcandidate, Narendra Modi,
last month urged smalltraders to compete with for-eign retail chains through e-commerce. At a conferenceorganised by traders associ-ations in the capital, Modi,without stating his positionon foreign investment insupermarkets, said, Theonline world presents newopportunities for you.

Traders, who was present ateBays launch of a report onsellers today, said traders'opposition to foreign invest-ment in retailing had notchanged. However, onlinemarketplaces, like those pro-vided by eBay, could help
local traders to grow, headded.
Apart from eBay, anotherAmerican e-commerce com-pany Amazon operates anonline marketplace in India.Indian e-commerce compa-nies like Flipkart and
Snapdeal have significantforeign investment in them.India does not allow foreigndirect investment in inven-tory-led e-commerce com-panies, but there is norestriction on online mar-ketplaces.
