To allow pupils develop swimming skills we have allocated groups to four consecutive sessions. This will be their only swimming period for the entire school year. The cost for the four sessions including bus, pool and two coaches is €30. Please forward payment to class teacher.
Tracksuits + Uniforms Parents may purchase uniform items in any store.
The crest will be available from the school office in the
next few weeks. The following suppliers will supply
uniform items and crested tracksuits.
All orders should be made directly to the suppliers – the school will
not be involved in processing orders.

Anti-Bullying Policy
In accordance with the requirements of the Education
(Welfare) Act 2000 and the code of behaviour guidelines
issued by the NEWB, the Board of Management of Caragh
National School has adopted a revised anti-bullying policy
within the framework of the school’s overall code of
behaviour. This policy fully complies with the requirements
of the Anti-Bullying Procedures for Primary and Post-
Primary Schools which were published in September 2013.
Anti- Bullying Workshop (Wed. May 7th)

As the revised Anti-Bullying Policy comes into operation, we
have organised a workshop for both pupils and parents.
Mr Sean Delaney will present a workshops to all classes
from 1st
– 6th
during the school day on Wednesday May 7th
,
2014. This talk will alert the pupils to cyber bullying and
how to cope with this form of bullying. Cost per child €2.
€5 per family (1st
– 6th
).
A presentation on the topic for parents will be given that
evening at 8pm. All parents are urged to attend, to equip
themselves with the necessary knowledge to support their
children. This is a general talk and will not focus on
individual Bullying issues. During May all classes will work
with their teachers on Anti-Bullying awareness also.
As part of the revised policy we have prepared a protocol
for parents to assist in bringing issues to the attention of
the school. This protocol is at Appendix D of the revised
policy.
As the Anti-Bullying Policy forms part of the schools Code of
Behaviour, parents will sign up to its use on enrolment, and
each subsequent year in September. The draft policy is
available on the school website under Blog. The updated
policy will be available after approved by the B.O.M.
Kilmainham/Glasnevin As part of the 6
th class S.E.S.E. programme pupils will visit
Kilmainham and Glasnevin on May 13th
.
Remember Naas Credit Union operate from the school every Thursday for 4th, 5th + 6th class pupils.
Healthy Eating In association with the Parents Association we are focusing on
healthy eating in a particular way during May. We will be
highlighting the following with regard to lunches.
- Crisps, fizzy drinks, sticky sweets and bars + chewing gum are
not allowed in school.
- Water is the best drink for lunches
- No sweet treats Monday-Thursday and on Friday a small
bar/bun/biscuits is sufficient as a treat.
- Please don’t allow children bring in a large bag of sweets,
giant size bars or multiple packs of biscuits
- Little break should be a fruit/veg break if possible.
- We will have the dental nurse visit to talk about healthy eating
for your teeth and the Parents Association will organise talks
on healthy lunches.
Walk to School Month… May is Walk to school month and with all the fine weather we
encourage all the children who can to walk to school. Wednesday May 14
th is Walk to School Wednesday where Green
School hope to have 20,000 children walking to school around
Ireland.
Active School Week will take place from the 23rd – 28th
June. We will be encouraging all children to be active during this week and
have lots of exercise sessions planned
Cecil Day Lewis Competition Congratulations to Ollie O’Neill, 6th class who was awarded one of the top
prizes in this Literacy Competition for his essay “Feathers”. The event is
run annually in Athy to honour the Late Cecil Day Lewis. Competition is
indeed very keen and to win one of the top awards in indeed a wonderful
achievement. Well done Ollie.
Cumann na mBunscol Senior boys have topped Div. 2 and have qualified for the semi final. Our
senior girls are playing to a very high standard and are unbeaten to date.
Our under 10 boys are also displaying high levels of performance which
places them with a great chance of qualifying for the Div. 2 semi final.
Hurling gets under way this week while our camogie players are up and
running with a first round victory over Rathcoffey.
Cross Country 2014 On Thursday 10th April last the Cumann na mBunscol cross country
meeting took place in Hawkfield. Caragh NS entered a girls and boys team
each in the large schools section. Both teams competed well with
particular credit going to Sinead Healion for finishing fourth overall in a
field of over 150 girls. The girls team were just beaten into fourth by a
small margin. Teams:
Boys: Michael Mc Govern, Joe Eustace, Adam Carton, Jack Mc Govern,
Cormac Byrne, Cathal O’Toole, Adam Delmer and Enda O’Neill.
Girls: Annie Roche, Sinead Healion, Rebecca Percival, Victoria Chanders,
Sadhbh Tully, Leah Fleming and Sally Kielty
Family Mass The next family Mass is on Sunday 25th May ’14. As this is the first Sunday
after the First Holy Communion we would love to see the 2nd class children
in their Communion outfits. There will be refreshments served after the
Mass and any donations of cakes/biscuits etc. would be greatly
appreciated.

Parents Council Brown money collection
Many thanks to all who helped with the Brown money collection recently.

FIRST HOLY COMMUNION DAY Sunday 18th May
“WHITE” FOOD PARTY & PHOTOGRAPHER
The Parents Council are hosting a little “White Food” Party in the school for the First
Holy Communion classes and their families to celebrate their big day on Sunday
18th May. After each of the Communion Masses there will be tea and coffee and
treats for the children. All those involved are welcome to come along.
The Parents Council are looking for volunteers to help out. If you can make
sandwiches or do some baking (“white food”) please drop them into the school on
the morning of the Communions between 9 a.m. and 11a.m. Volunteers are also
needed to help out at the Party itself for a couple of hours. If you can help out with

A photographer from www.biggerpicture.ie will be available to take a group photo at
the Church on the day of the First Holy Communions. The photographer will also
come to the Communion Party in the school, after each Mass, to take individual and

Mark your Calendar: U/ 9 Hurling Blitz June 28th Following the success of the inaugural event in 2013, the biggest U9 annual hurling event in Ireland returns to Eire Óg Corra Choill hurling club on Saturday, June 28th, 2014. EOCC will field two teams and will be joined by 14 other clubs from Dublin, Laois, Offaly, Wexford and Kildare. Please come out and support our lads on the day as they compete with the best hurling clubs in Leinster. First games commence at 10.30am.
