Ang Bandang Shirley is an indie rock band that was formed in 2003 by musical friends Owel Alvero and Ean Aguila. With the addition of Joe Fontanilla on guitars, Zig Rabara on drums, Jing Gaddi on bass, Selena Salang on vocals and Kathy Gener for moral and operational support, the band has come to be known for its heartfelt love songs that have pop-perfect melodies and a penchant for noise. Ang Bandang Shirley released its first album Themesongs in 2008 and is currently working on a second full-length release, which is slated to come out by mid-2012.

LND was formed by RJ G, Karlo C and Joe F on a late night jeepney ride in Baguio in 2004. The band’s present form sees RJ and Karlo combining guitar, software and vocals to create an earnest, swooning brand of electronic jam pop replete with bouncy arpeggios, feathery bell sounds and sheets of washed out noise.

“Gentle Universe” is a new nature and children-inspired ambient sound performance group. Inspired by the birth of his son, it was founded by ambient musician and sound designer Cris Garcimo in 2011. They create music and sounds using vintage synths, computers, toys and field recordings.

With friends Erich Diolola, Valerie Bautista, Stanley Castelo and Yen Reville, the group has performed at Lopez Museum’s Reverb; Ayala Museum, during Ang Illustrador ng Kabataan’s 20 anniversary exhibit; UP Vargas Museum; Secret Fresh Art Gallery; and recently at the opening of Coffee Bean at RONAC Art Center.

Slow Hello is Selena Salang. She started writing in 2008. Most of her songs are conversations she wants to have with other people, real or imagined, and with herself. She also sings and writes for indie rock band Ang Bandang Shirley. Currently, she is helped by Russ Davis on guitar, Marc Inting on bass guitar and Erwin Hilao on drums for live performances.

Tarsius is a Manila-based band composed of Diego Mapa on laptop and Jay Gapasin on drums. Diego sings for Pedicab (https://www.facebook.com/PedicabManila) and Jay plays drums for The Radioactive Sago Project (https://www.facebook.com/pages/Radioactive-Sago-Project/103644043007671. They met several years ago when both groups were touring Geneva, Switzerland and Hong Kong in support of a non-goverment organization. Mapa and Gapasin instantly hit off with their common interest with electronic music.

The band mix all genres of electronic music they love. Their debut “Primate” was assembled solely in Diego’s laptop which is heavy on soft synths, samples, and occasionally going to a rehearsal studio to record Jay’s drum parts.

In a Tarsius show, Mapa and Gapasin bang it out like a band. However, Tarsius is also a DJ with drums. When they come to a peak, the next thing you know it, you’re already treated to a choice track that could be from Aphex Twin to Toro y Moi, Black Sabbath to the Beatles and beyond.

Described as “edgy, dreamy, and trippy”, the music of Techy Romantics will have you in a feel-good, electro-pop frenzy, evidenced by the head-bobbing, fist-pumping, and foot-stomping commonplace among the crowds in almost all their gigs. Composed of Camyl Besinga on vocals, Ryan Villena on guitars, and Dondi Virrey on rhythm and beats, Techy Romantics was born with the simple aim of making original music available online. Relatively young in the scene, the group created songs that successfully fuse a potent mixture of new wave, rock, pop, and dance music.

A group of explorers surveying an abandoned goldmine were trapped in a cave-in, and found themselves at the mercy of a slimy, mysterious creature.

The Strangeness are a ragtag bunch of bandidos. The Strangeness are here to save rock and roll. The Strangeness will have a lot of fun along the way whether they succeed or not.

The Strangeness is also a lo-fi, lo-budge garage punk outfit from Manila. Collectively, they also have better music taste than you.

The Strangeness is also the name of a low-budget horror film that none of the members have seen as of yet. F*ck you, the name’s rad as f*ck.
