Anterior Triangle of Neck
Boundaries
BASE: Body of mandible and the line joininig the angle of mandible to mastoid process POSTERIORLY: Anterior border of Sternocleidomastoid muscle ANTERIORLY: Median plane of the neck APEX: Manubrium sterni
Subdivision
Submental Digastric Carotid Muscular
Contents of Ant. Triangle ARTERY: 1.External & Internal carotid artery 2. Occipital artery 3. Facial artery 4. Lingual & 5. Sup. Thyroid artery VEIN: 1. Internal jugular 2. External jugular Submandibular gland Accessory nerve Vagus nerve Suprahyoid & infrahyoid muscle
Posterior Triangle 0f Neck
Boundaries & Subdivisions• Boundaries: • Anteriorly posterior border of the
Sternocleidomastoid • Posteriorly anterior border of trapezius• Apex is the meeting point of
sternocleidomastoid and trapezius• Base is the medial one third of the
clavicle• Roof is skin , superficial fascia and deep
fascia• Floor is the prevartebral layer of deep
cervical fascia
Subdivision : 1. Occipital triangle 2. Supraclavicular triangle
Contents of Posterior triangle
NERVES: 1.Lesser occipital 2. Great auricular 3. Ant. Cutaneous4. Supraclavicular5.Mascular branches6. Trunks of brachial plexusVESSEL:1.Transverse cervical artery 2. Occipital artery LYMPH NODES
Submandibular RegionThe area between the body of mandible and the hyoid bones is known as submandibular regionBOUNDARIES: Superiorly mylohyoid muscle ,
inferior border of mandible Inferiorly anterior and
posterior belly of digastric Laterally deep cervical fascia ,
platysma Medially hypoglossus Anteriorly submental space Posteriorly hyoid bone
Contents of submandibular region
1. Submandibular salivary gland
2. Proximal portion of Submandibular duct
3. Lingual and hypoglossal nerve
4. Branches of facial artery paletine, tonsillar glandular branch
Clinicals
1. The most common location for atherosclerotic plaque formation is at the bifurcation or branch points of arteries, in the case of the carotid arteries
2. bruit is a systolic murmur heard only in the neck arteries
3. Tracheostomy a surgical procedure to create an opening through the neck into the trachea
4. Carotid sinus syndrome
