Selecting Englert Metal Roof SystemsAesthetics• A wide range of seam profiles,

panel widths and finishes to create the roof lines you desire.

• Narrow seams or wide batten-typeprofiles are available in both struc-tural and non-structural systems.

• Optional ribs and striated patternsare also available to articulate theroof lines from ridge to eaves.

• The systems accommodate com-plex roof configurations, includinghips, valleys, dormers and a broadrange of pitches.

• Transitions between roof surfacesand other building elements, suchas mansards, fascia, siding and sof-fits, can be cleanly and seamlesslydetailed in a variety of profiles.

• Panel systems come in customwidths from 12” to 21”

• Flush seam panels can achieve flatsurfaces on fascia walls and soffits.

Finishes• Our exceptionally broad range

of finishes, both custom and standard, can create anythingfrom a natural weathered appearance to bright high-performance, full-strength fluorocarbon colors.

Structural Requirements• Our 1000 series architectural roof

systems are economical, non-struc-tural profiles for application overdecking in new construction orover existing roofs in retrofitapplications.

• Englert’s 2000 series roof systemsmeet UL and ASTM standards forstructural roofing when applieddirectly over purlins or trusses.

Snap-Lock Versus Mechanical Seams• Snap-lock systems offer easy, fast

installation and uniform, clean-standing seam profiles, especiallyin transitions between roof sur-faces to mansards and fascia. Thelocking panel profile continuouslyinterlocks with the adjacent panelwithout mechanical seaming oradditional caps. Panels are typicallyfastened to the substrate every24” with concealed clips that provide clearance for thermalexpansion and contraction. Thesesystems have limited structural ratings and require a minimumslope of 3”/12”.

• Mechanically-seamed systems arejoined with a machine that foldseach panel over the adjacent oneto form a continuous, watertightseam. These systems are ideal forvery low slopes, with pitches asshallow as 1/2”/12”, and providebetter air and water infiltrationprotection.

Coatings and Technology

13

Englert’s in-house continuouscoil coating line processesproduct in five basic steps. The base metal is cleaned inan alkaline bath, rinsed withhot water, and chemically pretreated using a dried-in-place pretreatment. Next, a

primer is applied, and then baked on, followed by anoven cured top coat.

Typical substrates coated are aluminum, hot dipped galvanized steel, Galvalume®, and cold rolled steel.Coatings that can be applied are acrylics, polyesters, plastisol, siliconized polyesters, full strength 70% Kynar 500®/Hylar 5000® fluorocarbons. Finishes can be applied to either the top side or both sides of thesubstrate.

Englert’s coil coating line is equipped with quick changeheads, so color changes can be accomplished withoutline shutdown, facilitating the coating of a wide rangeof finishes in minimum quantities.

Englert’s in-house paint line also has the ability to applya thick film Kynar based paint system that is capable ofwithstanding 100 liters plus of falling sand as requiredin many government specifications.

Custom ColorsEnglert offers a wide range of custom colors with shortlead times and low minimum order requirementsdepending on the type of substrate. Englert can matchthe color of virtually any material, including brick, wood and fabric.

Perma Color 3500Englert’s PermaColor 3500 standard 35-year ULTRA-Coollow gloss Kynar coatings are comprised of a .7 to .9 milfull strength 70% Kynar 500/Hylar 5000 fluorocarbon(Polyvinylidene fluoride PVDF) coating over a urethaneprimer of .2 to .3 mil on the finish side, with primer anda washcoat on the reverse side.

ULTRA-Cool™ is state-of-the-art when it comes to energy-efficient metal roofing. Using BASF’s ULTRA-Cool coatings, ULTRA-Cool colors meet Energy Star’s® specsfor Initial Solar Reflectance for Cool Roofs and not onlysaves energy but money as well because:

• Heat is reflected away from the building• Smog is reduced when environmental temperatures

are reduced• Energy costs are saved because of cooler interior

spaces• Life expectancy of the roof is increased due to less

expansion and contraction• Monetary incentives are increasingly being offered

for switching to reflective roofing products• They meet the LEED 2.2 Solar Reflective Index

Englert’s PermaMetallics 2000 20-year colors are comprised of three unique coating systems:Metallic Copper (non-aging), Preweathered Galvalume®,and Champagne. All three colors are comprised of a .8 to .9 mil full strength, 70% Kynar 500/ Hylar 5000 fluorocarbon (Polyvinylidene fluoride PVDF) coatingover a urethane primer of .2 to .3 mil on the finish side, with primer and a washcoat on the reverse side.

Galvalume-Plus®

Englert now offers the cutting edge in metal roof technology – a premium steel product known asGalvalume-Plus®. This product has the advantage of an acrylic coating to reduce mill finish discoloration and uneven weathering. This metal is available as anew hi-tech solution to standard uncoated steel.

TexturingEnglert has the capability to provide several texturedeffects in its various roof systems. Stucco embossing, themost popular, lends a unique patterned appearancegreatly diminishing glare and unevenness in formedmetal panels.

StriatingStriating is a process of adding light vertical lines to thebroad face of the metal roof panels at the last stage ofrollforming. This process induces a shadow form effect.Combined with our low gloss Kynar coating it helpsreduce oil canning, giving the system a smooth, linearappearance.

Oil-CanningThe roll forming process can sometimes result in inherentsurface unevenness. This is referred to as “oil-canning”.This condition is also caused by thermal expansion andcontraction, dark colors, high gloss finishes and unevensubstrate. “Oil-canning” in and of itself is not sufficientcause for material rejection.

Kynar 500® is a registered trademark of Atofina Chemicals Inc.Hylar 5000® is a registered trademark of Ausimont USA Inc.Galvalume® and Galvalume Plus® are registered trademarks of BIEC Industries Inc.ULTRA-Cool™ is a trademark of the BASF Corp.
