Manningham Promoting Character (MPC) is a not for profit community organization incorporated under the Associations Incorporation Act of 1981. MPC was incorporated on August 29, 2002 principally in response to a resolution of Manningham City Council to work to improve character in all sectors of the community. Also, to do all in its power to become known as a ‘City Promoting Character’ by encouraging the community to recognize the value of character and assisting the community, where required, by promoting character in schools, businesses, homes, churches, local government, media, community, ethnic and service groups and urging the respective leaders of all of these organisations to do likewise. It is the belief of members of MPC that good character qualities are essential for a vibrant and safe community and should therefore continue to be promoted and recognised by the community. The objectives of the Association are to:

• Recognize the benefits of good character qualities

• Promote a variety of ways in which good character qualities can be used

• Acknowledge good character traits being demonstrated by community leaders

• Involve the whole community in the promotion and use of positive character qualities

• Demonstrate publicly our resolve to make Manningham a better place in which to live, work and play.

PRESIDENT’S REPORT

MPC President’s Report 2016-2017. I am honoured to present my 2016-2017 President’s Report. Again, another “doing it tough” year. I have served on and, am serving on a few committees, but never have I seen more dedicated people than those that serve on our Committee.

Legend Kevin Sheedy with President Lionel Allemand

With our backs to the wall financially, the great Kevin Sheedy gave us a reprieve or a lifeline in supporting our having a “Night with Sheeds ” to raise funds. The profit from this night has sponsored Being a Good Sport Day and our Xmas Luncheon and gives us renewed energy to do all that we have scheduled over the coming year. On behalf of us all “thank you” Kevin for your generosity and being a friend of Manningham Promoting Character. You truly are an inspiration and a great Australian. END OF YEAR CELEBRATION - COMMUNITY SERVICE AWARDS Founded in 2000-2001, Manningham Promoting Character has been represented by many fine people. Today our Committee is still working hard promoting and recognising “good character “ within the City of Manningham with the same enthusiasm and professionalism and producing programs that hopefully are achieving success in spreading our message throughout Manningham. Every year we recognize members of the Community who have been outstanding volunteers.

Liz Guiver (MPC Secretary) and Jenny Horvath (MCC) happy with their Award.

The City of Manningham delegated the task of selecting an individual or group which demonstrated character traits worthy of such an award to the Manningham Promoting Character Committee. The 2017 recipient is the Veneto Club, its Board and General Manager, Joe Morello. The Veneto Club supports the Manningham Community very well. They are partners with Doncare and support the Annual Volunteers Dinner, MPC’s Good Sports Day and, in August 2016 they raised funds to assist in rebuilding the towns and lives of those affected by the Italian Earthquake . 2017 MENZIES COMMUNITY AUSTRALIA DAY AWARD MPC Committee member Michael Mimmo received an award for his wide ranging community service, including MPC, over many years. Congratulations Michael.

BEING A GOOD SPORT DAY. The Annual Good Sport Day was again held at the very popular Veneto Club. With its wonderful surrounds, pristine soccer pitches, Basketball and Bocce Courts the Veneto Club was the perfect place to hold our event. I again thank the Veneto Committee for its generosity in allowing us to utilize their facility and we thank them and CEO Joe Morello plus the Veneto Soccer and Bocce Coaches for their professional assistance.

We were privileged to have the Mayor of Manningham Michelle Kleinert open the Day.

This year we introduced “Dodge Ball” into the program and as there was no cricket. it was a great replacement. The other sports for the day were Bocce, Soccer, and AFL. The Committee thanks all the coaches of the various sports, the Schools involved and their teachers for giving up their time to give professional guidance to the students. The students certainly enjoyed the new sport Dodge Ball. This year we had 120 primary school students representing 6 schools from the Manningham area. Thanks also to our hard working Secretary Liz for her tireless work in co-ordinating this event.
