COMMUNITY EMPLOYMENT SERVICESASSISTIVE TECHNOLOGY

The Assistive Technology Department provided 4,652 services hours to 90 individuals and made over 180 device and equipment repairs.

NURSING

Nursing administered 476,000 medications so

that people with disabilities have the tools

they need to live their best lives.

WORK SERVICES

The goal of Work Services to increase earnings and develop skills transferable to community jobs has resulted in the creation of 10 minimum wage or above jobs over the past year. We are continuing the work of creating more efficient processes to enable higher earning potential.

RESIDENTIAL

Residents enjoyed 3,410 community-based activities. Activities help participants develop many universal skills that are an important part of interacting with their community

The Community Employment Services program has assisted 23 individuals in obtaining community employment. The Department has continued to expand capacity to serve all individuals seeking community employment opportunities.

The Arc of the Quad Cities Area Focuses on AbilitiesThe Arc is part service provider and part advocate for

people with disabilities. What makes us different is that we don’t let a diagnosis become a label. We leave

labels for jars and focus on abilities. We make sure people with disabilities decide for themselves what

makes for their best life, and we build our services around them.

This is how we empower people with disabilities to believe in their own unique abilities and achieve their full potential. Our services focus on advocacy,

independence, employment, meaningful community life, and personal happiness. That means we provide a full array of services. So people with disabilities get

the supports they need to build their best life. That includes work services, finding and placing people in employment opportunities, residential services,

community and day services, assistive technology, and much, much more.

In fiscal year 18, The Arc made great strides in perfecting our mission outlined in this report.

SPEAK OUT

AKTION CLUB

From visiting the library to boxing club, Day & Community participants enjoyed 632 community outings and meaningful volunteer activities of their choice. 97 in-house presenters provided enriching experiences like music, art, and pet therapy that help improve quality of life and well being for people with disabilities.

The Arc’s team of Quality Intellectual Disability Professional have made strides to implement person centered planning which aligns services and systems to each individual’s preferences.

Speak Out is a self-advocate group comprised of people with disabilities. Speak Out members participated in the National Speak Up - Speak Out Conference and created and sold Speak Up - Speak Out bracelets that also helped communicate the groups anti-bullying campaign. Speak Out members also participated in a special day-long film educational project where participants learned the ins and outs of working in front of and behind the camera.

The Aktion Club is not a service provided by The Arc, rather it is a service club for adults with disabilities that is sponsored by the Rock Island Kiwanis Club and hosted by The Arc. Aktion Club established a new charter in the Quad Cities in fiscal year 2018.
