The 2016-17 school year was yet another extraordinary year. I’m always blown away by the exceptional spirit, character and accomplishments of our students, families and faculty. Our strength in community is truly what positions us well in our service to our students.

At St Stephen’s Episcopal Day School (SSEDS), the strength of our community is seen in many ways. It is found in our collective focus on a greater community, in our commitment to spiritual growth, and in our spirit of giving.

St. Stephen’s is one of the most forward thinking schools in the country thanks to countless individuals who unselfishly commit themselves to making this happen. As is typical for any independent school, tuition alone is not enough to maintain and propel a school to the level that St. Stephen’s aspires to. Additional funds are a necessary component to ensure that we continue to grow and stay relevant. St. Stephen’s is steadfast in its pursuit of new and innovative ways to teach that prepare students to thrive in this complex and fascinating world. Additional expenses and programs are funded by dollars donated through the Annual Fund and the School and Home Association.

School and Home AssociationSchool and Home would like to personally thank all SSEDS families for their continued support this year. It was truly an amazing year. All events and activities were a success as a result of the wonderful parent volunteers and the generous contributions from our families. This commitment is what makes SSEDS such a special community.

School and Home committees worked very hard in organizing all of our events this year and also led annual efforts in, and outside of, our school. Events such as our important Bollywood Night Gala and the kids favorites Carnival, Field Day and Book Fair will not be forgotten and are great examples of how our parents come together to contribute in positive ways. Year long committees such as Library, Green SSEDS and Yearbook continually support our school and our Student and Parent Assemblies provide our SSEDS community the ability to stay current on relevant issues. The newly formed Helping Hands Committee was a major success in opening hand-on opportunities to teach our kids how to help those in need. Finally, we finished our school year celebrating and thanking our beloved teachers with a fabulous Teacher Appreciation Week.

In addition to all of the events, you will be proud to know that your financial contributions were applied to fulfilling all teacher proposals, improving campus facilities, paying for continued education of our faculty and staff, funding financial aid, pay for community building events and make our teachers feel appreciated and loved.

It has truly been an honor to serve you as School and Home President this year. I am so grateful to be a part of this amazing community and look forward to having an equally successful next year.

Annual FundOur schoolwide goal was of 100% participation from our community for the fifth consecutive year and we are proud to say that this extraordinary accomplishment has become an established tradition at St. Stephen’s. We are grateful for the unwavering leadership of our Reach for the Stars Annual Giving Co-Chairs: Bricen and Rafael Urquidi, Christina and Mark Sirinyan, Cristina and Eric Soulavy and Rami and Giselle Ghurani. Under their leadership, our school community contributed $376,984! Not even the rain could stop us from having a lovely Bollywood Night! The evening was a celebration and above all, a community building event that would not have been possible without the astounding efforts of our Gala Chairs Siri Willoch Traasdahl, Rachel DeLima and Meredith Ortega and the team of helpers that rolled up their sleeves to help in making our gala an unforgettable evening. The campus was transformed with beautiful tents, lights, and flowers, creating a night of magic, fellowship, and fundraising.
