SIMON SAYS GIVE 2018 ANNUAL REPORT2

A NOTE FROM THE FOUNDERI am proud of all of our accomplishments that Simon Says Give and all of our other chapters have achieved this past year.

Nolan and his team have impacted 2,618 children this past year through their birthdays and hunger programs. Simon, in Massachusetts, has impacted 3,620 children through birthdays and backpacks this past year. With both of our chapters combined we have impacted 6,247 children.

Back in Minnesota we have impacted 14,424 children and added a new title to our organization. We are now a Guinness World Records Holder! During our GWR event, our chapter presidents were able to band together for this amazing accomplishment. We are excited for this year to unfold with everything we have planned and to see each other’s chapters grow and prosper.

MINNESOTA CHAPTER

2018 HIGHLIGHTSSimon Says Give turned 6 years old in 2018. We watched our second birthday child that we celebrated back in 2012 graduate from High School! Well done Japricia!

Earlyin2018,ourKidAdvisoryBoardputonanamazingGive Awards event where they recognized local Super Heros. This event was part of a two-year project that the Kid Advisory Board conducted as part of Students inActionthroughtheJeffersonAwardsFoundation.

During the summer we set out to break a Guinness World Records title. We partnered with MoneyGram Foundation as our Title Sponsor. Many of our faithful donors and strategic partners provided monetary donations as well as helping hands through volunteer opportunities.

We did it! We stuffed over 8,000 backpacks in lessthan8-hours.Weactuallystuffed8,148backpacks inless than 4-hours at Mall of America on 8.8.18. It was amazing and we couldn’t have done it without our partners and supporters!

Each fall we celebrate our Legacy Donors. Thesedonors have partnered with us in providing $10,000 or more to our organization throughout time. We were excited to add 8 new Legacy Donors this year.

2018 HIGHLIGHTSBACKPACKSWe hand-delivered 340 backpacks to at-need rising middle schoolers – more than double what we did in 2017.Eachpack,averaging$75invalue($25morethanlast year), was customized and filled with everythingstudents needed to succeed.

BIRTHDAYSWe delivered 18 birthdays in a box and hosted seven birthday parties (with our amazing partners at The Learning Hub) – up from four birthdays total in 2017. We personally delivered the boxes, customized the gifts, and included an amazing cake donated by our friends at Queen’s Cups.

FUNDRAISINGWe owe so much to the generosity of more than 150 individual donors, great partners, and some incredible organizations including Project Lovely, Webster Five, Bay State Savings, Big Y, DCU, and the students at Saint John’s High School. We raised more than $33,000, including in-kind donations, triple 2017!

2019 GOALSDeliver 500 backpacks and provide 50 birthdays to kids across the city – and of course raise the money to make it happen.

A NOTE FROM SIMONI’m stunned by how much we grew in 2018. We doubled our backpacks, quadrupled our birthdays, tripled our fundraising, andhadfivetimestheimpact.In2017,wehad10kidsputin 245 hours. In 2018, we had 46 kids put in 560 hours. They made our parties and backpack and birthday box assemblies huge successes.

But I’m most proud of our ability to connect with the kids we serve. We deliver almost every backpack and party personally and try to customize everything we can. We still let kids pick their backpack colors. We work with teachers to createdifferentsupplylists,andlastyear,werespondedtotheirrequesttoswitchthebinderstoa3”Case-Itbinderthatthe students needed (worth $25). Also when the community reached out to us, we mobilized to get backpacks to students displacedbyatornadoandafire.

Our volunteers get what this means to our chapter, especially ourfirstKidAdvisoryBoardmembers–Chloe,Morgan, andBrooklyn – who have been my super volunteers and will help me guide the future of our chapter. We can’t wait to see where we go in 2019 and beyond!

SIMON SAYS GIVE 2017 ANNUALREPORT 11

A NOTE FROM NOLANWe had an amazing year! We impacted more kids this year than ever before by delivering nearly 300 birthday bags and had over 1200 volunteer hours! That is a lot of time spent helping us impact the community!

Anotherthingthat issignificant isthat Iampassingonthetorch.CassidyJenningswasoneofthefirstpeopletojoinandhas been my friend since Kindergarten. I will be helping her transition to Kid President of Simon Says Give South Dakota. I will continue to be involved with everything that we do, but it’s good for other kids to have the opportunities I’ve had.

We gained some awesome sponsors that gave us their time, talent, and treasure. While everyone who helped us this yearwasgreatlyappreciated, I specificallywanted to thankSammons Financial and Giving Hope for their generosity. They have helped take our chapter to the next level and enabled us to help more kids. This IS kids celebrating kids (with a sprinkle of adult help)!

Thank you to everyone who helped us reach our goals. Here’s to 2019 and beyond!

Nolan Fleming Kid President | SSG South Dakota

SOUTH DAKOTA CHAPTER

2018 HIGHLIGHTSEvery year we’ve grown and been able to deliver evenmore birthdays to kids in need. This year we celebrated 284 kids. That’s a lot of cake and frosting! More and more parents and families are hearing about Simon Says Give, so we hope to help even more kids in 2019. We set the goal to hit 350 birthdays this year and start a birthday program with some kids we know in Aberdeen, SD. We’re excited for all that 2019 will bring.

This past year brought great new partners and friends. Giving Hope not only provided us a grant early in the year, they became an awesome mentor and friend. We planned together and hosted our third annual Cops vs Kidsevent.WehadSDHighwayPatrol,SFPoliceOfficersandFirefighterswhoparticipatedingamesandactivitieswith kids in our community. Giving Hope introduced us to a wealth of other partners and volunteers who helped make our event even better and more spectacular for the kids and families who attended.

We also received an amazingly generous grant from Sammons Financial for our Birthday Program. Their donation will help us reach more families and expand ourbirthdayofferingsformorefamiliesinneedinSouthDakota. The Kid Board is planning ways to utilize their donation – developing their planning, leadership, and budgeting skills at the same time. We are excited and grateful for the enthusiasm and support for what our Kid Leadership Team is doing and their support of Simon Says Give.

All of this could not happen without a great team of Adult and Kid Board Members, volunteers and generous donors. We are thankful for everyone who donates their time, talent and treasure all year long to ensure every kid is celebrated. Thank you for making Nolan’s vision a reality!
