Our School Vision

Together we nurture life-long learners through a holistic faith-filled approach focused on the wellbeing of each student, empowering them

to make a difference. #HT LoveOneAnother

School Overview Holy Trinity School, the second school of St Jude’s parish, Scoresby, was established in 1985. Our Parish Priest, Fr. John Hannon, joined the Parish in September 2015.

The majority of students attending our school are Catholic with English as their first language and come from financially stable middle class socio economic backgrounds. The majority of our parents have a keen interest in the life and education of their children. They provide a variety of ‘out of school’ experiences for their children in academic, leisure and sporting activities. The partnership between parents and teachers is essential to the life and learning at Holy Trinity School. Parents are represented on the School Advisory Committee and Parents’ Association. We have a very active Parent Association led by an enthusiastic core group, who coordinate various social and fund raising activities.

We take pride in our sense of community and often benefit from great parental support and involvement. Members of our community are a living witness to our school motto, ‘Love One Another.’ Our School Motto comes from the Gospel of John 13:34 ‘And now I give you a new commandment: love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another’. The students enjoy a happy, welcoming atmosphere where the school motto, “Love One Another” is the basis of our actions and the values underlying our Discipline Policy. The children are friendly, open and confident in the safe, secure environment of their school, knowing that they have the right to be and feel safe, work, learn and play without interference from others and that they have the reciprocal responsibility to respect others.

Holy Trinity enjoys a unique integration program with St Mary’s College for the Deaf. The two schools share the same campus and St Mary’s students are integrated into Holy Trinity classes. All students wear the same uniform, play in the same playground and share activities and friendships. This encourages, in all students, a sense of understanding and inclusion as they learn to accept and respect differences. The student population at Holy Trinity School is approximately 290. There are 13 classes.

2 x Prep 4 x Year 1/2 4 x Year 3/4 3 x Year 5/6

Holy Trinity School has 35 staff members. This includes class teachers, specialist subject teachers; Physical Education, LOTE (Italian), Information and Communication Technology, Visual Arts, Learning Enhancement, Reading Recovery specialists, office staff, Learning Support Officers and a school councillor. Positions of Leadership within the school include Principal, Deputy Principal, Religious Education Leader, Literacy Leader, Maths Leader, Student Wellbeing Leader, Learning and Teaching Leader, ICT Leader and a University of Melbourne Network of Schools Leader.

Currently students prepare for the sacraments of Reconciliation and Eucharist in Year 3 and Confirmation is celebrated at Grade 5/6 level every second year. The focus of the Religious Education program during sacramental celebrations is a whole school priority we are a community of faith celebrating together. Our TORCH Values of Tolerance, Optimism, Respect, Confidence and Honesty underpin everything we do. Our Friendship Groups are an example of our modelling and explicit teaching of these values.

2016 ANNUAL REPORT TO THE SCHOOL COMMUNITY

Principal’s Report The 2016 school year at Holy Trinity saw many accomplishments in all spheres of education. We commenced the next phase of our four year School Improvement Cycle. Our whole school review process involved the entire school community and provided us with the opportunity to reflect and evaluate past and current practices and then plan for future improvement. The outcome of this process has lead to the development of our next four year School Improvement Plan and specifically, our 2017 Annual Action Plan.

One main Learning and Teaching focus involved the whole school further strengthening and developing the CAFÉ strategies in reading, the introduction of Words Their Way spelling and use of the daily 3 or 5 throughout the literacy block. In Mathematics, we strengthened our whole school approach to planning and catering for individual student needs. The staff continued to implement activities consistent with the Inquiry Approach to teaching and learning in Religious Education and commenced using the Renewed Religious Education Curriculum Framework, which will assist us in refining our assessment practices in Religious Education.

Our community completed the development of our Harmony Garden. The Harmony Garden is an area where students can passively play and interact with one another during recess and lunchtime. Classes can also use the Harmony Garden as an outside classroom for learning. We involved our parent community in forums to gain insights and feedback into our school reports and have changed the way we report student learning and progress to parents. Feedback from this new approach was very positive.

As well as focusing specifically on Social Emotion Learning, we integrated SEL into many curriculum areas. We further developed the use of meditation and mindfulness both as a calming strategy and as a form of prayer.

We are proud of our 2016 achievements and look forward to the opportunities, challenges and achievements that 2017 will provide us at Holy Trinity.

Parish Priest’s Report

Dear Friends, having arrived here at Scoresby Parish in September 2015, I’ve now had time to engage with the students and staff in our 2 primary schools of Holy Trinity and St Jude’s, if not manage to learn too many names, one of my great weaknesses! It’s great to find vibrant and welcoming communities for our young people, eager to learn and grow in an inclusive multicultural environment. The good ‘vibe’ I’ve picked up is evident in the way teachers engage with their students and vice versa, while it’s also evident that parents are ever keen to be involved in supporting their children in all sorts of voluntary ways. I’ve also found a good sense of involvement in the faith development process, in taking the Gospel message of Jesus to heart and living that in practice and celebrating in ritual and worship, in both school communities.

So there’s good integration of faith and life overall in the holistic way we educate our young people and encourage their enthusiasm and individual talents, whilst recognizing their particular needs for assistance along the way as well. And now we launch into another great year, working together in 2017. John Hannon, Parish Priest

It is pleasing to see from the VRQA compliance data, Holy Trinity is achieving very good results in NAPLAN

Testing.

● While we are pleased with most of our NAPLAN results, as a school we are constantly evaluating our

programs and teaching methods in order to drive further improvement. There is an evident trend in the area

of Grammar and Punctuation. From 2014 to 2016 there has been a steady decline in the year 3 results,

however there has also been a steady increase in the Year 5 results. This is an area that we will monitor as

we constantly strive to improve student learning and outcomes.

Child Safe Standards ·

Goals and Intended Outcomes

At Holy Trinity we hold the care, safety and wellbeing of children and young people as a central and fundamental responsibility of our school. Our commitment is drawn from and inherent in the teaching and mission of Jesus Christ, with love, justice and the sanctity of each human person at the heart of the gospel.

“The person of each individual human being, in his or her material and spiritual needs, is at the heart of Christ’s teaching: that is why the promotion of the human person is the goal of the Catholic school (Congregation for Catholic Education 1997, n. 9).”

Holy Trinity’s vision states: Together we nurture life-long learners through a holistic, faith-filled approach focussed on the wellbeing of each student empowering them to make a difference. #HTLoveOneAnother

The purpose of our Child Safe policy is to demonstrate the strong commitment of Holy Trinity to the care, safety and wellbeing of all students at our school. It provides an outline of the policies, procedures and strategies developed to keep students safe from harm, including all forms of abuse in our school environment, on campus, online and in other locations provided by the school.

This policy takes into account relevant legislative requirements within the state of Victoria, including the specific requirements of the Victorian Child Safe Standards as set out in Ministerial Order No. 870.

As a school we believe that we have a moral, legal and mission-driven responsibility to create a nurturing school environment where children and young people are respected, their voices are heard and they are safe and feel safe. Our Child Safe Policy applies to school staff, including school employees, volunteers, visitors, contractors and clergy.

Achievements

Child Safe Code of Conduct At Holy Trinity School, we expect school employees, volunteers, visitors, contractors and clergy to proactively ensure the safety of students at all times and to take appropriate action if there are concerns about the safety of any child at the school. All school staff must remain familiar with the relevant laws, the code of conduct, and policies and procedures in relation to child protection and to comply with all requirements. We have developed a Child Safety Code of Conduct (see School website for all policies including the Child Safety Code of Conduct) which recognises the critical role that school staff play in protecting the students in our care and establishes clear expectations of school employees, volunteers, contractors and clergy for appropriate behaviour with children in order to safeguard them against abuse and or neglect.

Holy Trinity School, Wantirna South

2016 ANNUAL REPORT TO THE SCHOOL COMMUNITY

Our Code also protects school staff through clarification of acceptable and unacceptable behaviour. Child Safety and Working with Children Checks As advised in the school newsletter ALL volunteers engaged in child related work are required to have an up to date Working With Children Check (WWCC). Our staff are being asked to be vigilant in checking that parents have working with children checks whenever planning class events, excursions, sports activities etc. Staff check the Child Safe register, as maintained at the school office, for parent compliance to our Child Safe practices.

Visitor Sign In - School Administration and agreement to the Child Safety Code of Conduct All visitors to Holy Trinity School are required to enter via the school administration area. Visitors to our site, including parents undertaking child related work/volunteering, are to register their attendance to the school site on the digital VPass visitor’s record. All visitors receive a visitor’s lanyard and are requested to have this visible at all times. At the conclusion of their time on site visitors sign out via the VPass register. Visitors will not be permitted to undertake child related work without a visitor's lanyard.
