It is a pleasure to present to you the GACS 2013 Annual Report, recapping the fiscal year of July 1, 2012 to June 30, 2013. This year we helped over 28,000 people, almost 4,300 through direct service, and an additional 24,000 through social responsibility advocacy and justice for human rights, community outreach and education. Our staff continues to be able to provide critical assistance to a growing number of people in the community, because of generous donors like you. Thank you for walking beside us on this journey to fulfill our mission of helping empower people to improve the quality of their lives. Our Sexual Assault Service Center (SASC) and Groundwork (GW) domestic violence program served the greatest number of people, 734 and 3,240 respectively. Both programs hosted wonderful events to raise awareness throughout April and October. SASC planned a Candlelight Vigil, a Rock Against Rape event for the first time, and Walk a Mile in Her Shoes®; a men’s march to stop rape, sexual assault, and gender violence. Suzy’s Caring Place and Groundwork held our annual Angels Against Abuse 5K with more than 130 people in attendance. SASC, GW, and Suzy’s Caring Place continued excellent collaboration to provide 24-hour service to victims of sexual assault and domestic violence. While Guardian Angel has always been a proud partner of Joliet Junior College (JJC), this year GW and SASC joined forces with JJC on reducing sexual assault, domestic violence, teen dating violence, and stalking on campuses through the United States Department of Justice’s Office on Violence Against Women. GW and SASC began responding to victims on campus 24-hours a day, provided training to campus police, as well as numerous prevention presentations. Groundwork was also awarded a grant from the Illinois Coalition Against Domestic Violence and the Allstate Foundation to start a Career Club for victims of domestic violence. We created a Grundy County Task Force to better serve the needs of victims of domestic violence throughout the county. Suzy’s Caring Place continued to provide a safe, transitional living environment for 38 domestic violence victims and their children. Foster Care welcomed 72 youth and provided counseling and supportive services to families. We expanded by way of a 70% increase in foster homes available to care for neglected and abused children. Our Exchange Club Center (ECC) provided parenting classes to 41 families and individual counseling to 19 parents. Our Partner Abuse Intervention Program (PAIP) served 93 perpetrators of family violence this year. The Dillard Harris Educational Center (DHEC) was recognized, for the sixth year in a row, by the National Association of Special Education Teachers, as a “School of Excellence,” while providing support and education to 56 youth. We had a wonderful celebration and fun filled night of dancing and performance at our Angelica Gala, Dancing With Our Local Stars! This is always a joyous occasion where local stars join hands with professional dancers for a spectacular night of fellowship and entertainment. The following report represents the collaborative effort between our staff, administration, Board of Directors and all of our loyal donors. We hope that it encourages you to become an even more active supporter of Guardian Angel Community Services. For more information please visit our website at www.gacsprograms.org, like us on Facebook, or give us a call at 815-729-0930. With your support, I’m confident we will continue to help more individuals and families break the cycle of violence and crisis that has prevented them and their families from reaching their potential.
