Annual Report – FY17

Message from the Executive Director

It’s hard to believe that eight years ago, an idea hatched by Gerry Crispin and me has become a reality. Gerry and I came to the realization that to truly define a profession, you need an independent, objective nonprofit professional body. The lack of a professional body for Talent Acquisition has prevented the development of standards for education, measurement, and ethics; the establishment of a common voice with legal and regulatory bodies, the media, and the business world at large; and the growth of community locally, globally, and virtually. ATAP was designed to change that. ATAP was designed for you.

Thanks to the hard work of a couple dozen volunteers, ATAP became a reality in the fall of 2016, leading to its formal launch on April 1, 2017. Since then, dozens more volunteers have donated their time and effort to establishing ATAPs infrastructure and starting the work of building the body of knowledge for our profession. ATAP is more than a nonprofit, and it is more than a professional association. It is a true grassroots start-up that has made incremental progress every day.

The past 18 months have primarily been about building a strong foundation. This next year is about taking ATAP to the next level, including providing more opportunities to volunteer and get involved, launching new educational opportunities such as a webinar series and whitepapers, and hosting/co-hosting virtual and local events to cultivate our great professional community.

I constantly hear from people how important they feel ATAP’s mission is, that its time has come. There is still so much to do as we continue to grow. To paraphrase President Kennedy, “Ask not what ATAP can do for you, ask what you can do for your profession!” That said, ATAP is committed to providing more in terms of member and sponsor value going forward. I say it many times, but I truly mean it from the bottom of my heart when I say thank you for your support and generosity. Great times ahead for our profession, and ATAP is there to lead the way!

Message from the Board President

Great progress and enacting change starts with the passion and effort of great people. Over the past three years, dozens of great people in talent acquisition stepped up, volunteered their time, resources, and expertise, and made a dream a reality. The result of that effort has been the launch of the Association of Talent Acquisition Professionals (ATAP), a monumental step forward for our profession!

ATAP ends its first year with nearly 600 members, many corporate members, and several sponsors—all of whom have invested in the future of the profession that has provided a career and/or business platform for all of us through the years.

Our Executive Director, Board of Directors, Committee leaders and Committee volunteers have worked diligently to establish a strong foundation for ATAP. Launching a professional association is a daunting task. Many strategic decisions have to be made and progress realized with limited financial means and only volunteer support resources. The primary focus so far has been to develop a solid strategy to ensure the long-term viability and success of ATAP.

So, I’d like to thank all of those who have already joined this movement—our leaders, individual members, corporate members, and sponsors. Thank you for investing your time, talent, and treasure to the formation and foundation of ATAP! Now and always, ATAP will be built by talent acquisition for talent acquisition. We can’t do it without you!

The future is bright for the talent acquisition profession—and ATAP is now here to lead the way! Cheers to all for a superb first year!
