“I wish to interact with a tiger cub.”
To Our Donors, Volunteers, Wish Families, Staff and Board:Looking back at my last year on the board, I’m amazed at both how much we accomplished and how quickly the time passed by. When I joined the board in 2007, it was my first non-profit board experience, and I was excited and ready to take on my new responsibility with passion and dedication. Little did I realize that 2008’s economic downturn was just around the corner, nor how this new challenge would affect
Make-A-Wish. When that challenge came along, the board quickly made the decision that big changes needed to be made if we were going to not only survive the upcoming years but continue to grow during them.
It truly inspires me and fills me with joy that we have indeed grown as an organization, 2012 in particular under the leadership of CEO Stephanie McCormick, and more Make-A-Wish growth means more wishes for more children!
In a very short period of time, Make-A-Wish Orange County and the Inland Empire went through the greatest changes in its history and emerged stronger than ever. Our journey was filled with small steps and giant leaps, and we would not have made it through if not for the time, talent, support and dedication of our staff, board and donors. So many people played pivotal roles in getting us to the place we are today, and I owe them a debt of gratitude I doubt I can ever repay.
And while I am proud of all we accomplished together, I am even more proud that no matter where we were on our journey, we never lost sight of our goal of granting wishes for children.
To our donors and volunteers, I am especially appreciative of your unwavering support, and the trust you’ve placed in our organization.
Because of your commitment and generosity, Make-A-Wish continues to be a source of hope for children with life-threatening medical conditions and their families.
You make it possible for them to stop focusing on their situation and start focusing on their dreams.

Thank you for allowing these families to dream again and for putting their dreams within reach.
I do want to recognize and thank Rob Gundling and Tino Pagano, two board members who along with me have completed their six-year terms. Both of these gentlemen worked tirelessly for the chapter at a level that was unmatched at the time.
We feel good knowing that we are leaving your new chairman, Michael Rapacz, an outstanding businessman and board member in his own right, with the best, most professional and dedicated board of directors in our 30-year history.
When I look back at the past year as board chair, I know I met the challenges of 2012 head-on with the same passion and dedication I started with in 2007, and I know Michael and the 2013 board will continue to grow the organization.
It’s been my greatest pleasure to serve this chapter as its chairman, and I leave knowing it’s in good hands.
Thank you to each and every one of our board members, staff members, volunteers and wish families for truly making me feel, understand and share the power of a wish®.
Best Wishes, Jon StorbeckChairman of the Board 2011-2012
Dear Friends,Fiscal year 2012 was incredible for Make-A-Wish Orange County and the Inland Empire in many different and wonderful ways. It was a very warm and memorable first year for me as the president and CEO of this great chapter. The outpouring of support from all of you – our donors, volunteers, staff and board – truly overwhelmed and amazed me.While this past year was one of transformation, our board remained focused and put in place a strategic direction with our main goal being simply to build the organization’s ability to grant more wishes. Expectations were high as fiscal year 2012 came to a close and we entered 2013, our chapter’s 30th anniversary. I am happy to report we were able to grant 311 wishes, the most wishes our chapter has ever granted in a single year! With a strategic direction in place, our progress has been and will continue to be made through a series of steps, making strides toward reaching our vision to grant the wish of every eligible child.

New Leadership
“We have indeed grown as an organization...
... under the leadership of CEO Stephanie McCormick.” In September of 2011, the first month of the 2012 fiscal year, Make-A-Wish Orange
County and the Inland Empire welcomed seasoned non-profit leader Stephanie McCormick as its new president and CEO.
With strength, determination and new leadership, we set out to accomplish the organization’s vision: to grant the wish of every eligible
child. By the end of the fiscal year, our chapter had granted more wishes than ever before, 311 in total, putting us on a path toward
realizing our vision.
Under the direction of Stephanie McCormick, the Orange County and the Inland Empire chapter of Make-A-Wish will grant every child’s wish through “small steps and giant leaps.” Each step we take is another
step closer to our goal.

“We never lost sight of our goal”
Throughout 2012, Make-A-Wish Orange County and the Inland Empire stayed child-centered and mission-focused, knowing that a granted
wish is vital for children with life-threatening medical conditions.
A recent wish impact study shows:
• 89 percent of nurses, doctors, social workers and child life specialists say they believe the wish experience can influence
wish children’s physical health
• 74 percent of wish parents say the wish is a positive turning point in their child’s battle against their illness.
Wish children have said a wish provides the ability to see themselves as more than someone who is sick. Wishes have the power to turn
life-threatening illnesses into life-affirming triumphs.

Stepping toward our goal of granting the wish of every eligible child
“Because of your commitment and generosity...
... Make-A-Wish continues to be a source of hope for children with life-threatening medical conditions.” Our chapter is able to carry out its mission of granting wishes through the support of the community. Without the help of local donors and volunteers, we could not exist.
Although Make-A-Wish is well-known around the world, the Orange County and the Inland Empire chapter operates on a completely local
basis. We raise funds locally and grant wishes to local children.
There are currently close to 400 active volunteers helping with such things as wish granting, fundraising and community events.
Volunteers are the backbone of our organization.

“Thank you for allowing these families to dream again...
...and putting their dreams within reach.” Make-A-Wish grants the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy.
These wishes are not a “last” or “dying” wish but an endorsement and gift of life. The majority of children who receive wishes fully recover
and have the chance to live out their dreams.
A wish many times is a catalyst for children, bringing them to a place where they believe their dreams can come true. The wish experience
truly empowers children and strengthens families.
Make-A-Wish is not only for terminally ill children but for all children who face life-threatening illnesses.

Stepping toward our goal of granting the wish of every eligible child
With fiscal year 2012 behind us, we look to the future with great anticipation of what is to come. We also look back at our history and see
all the incredible work that has been accomplished. Since our inception in 1983, thousands of wishes have been granted to local children.
Fiscal year 2013 marks the 30th anniversary of Make-A-Wish Orange County and the Inland Empire. It is an honor and privilege to have served
the children and families in our community for the past three decades.
In October of 2012, our chapter hosted the inaugural Evening of Wishes gala in celebration of this important milestone. It is our hope to see you
this October at the 2nd Annual Evening of Wishes and together continue to create many future dreams for the deserving children in
Orange, Riverside and San Bernardino counties.
