2019 ANNUAL REPORT Dear Music Lover, As the executive director and co-founder of Twin Cities Catalyst Music (Catalyst) I am proud to share with you updates on the state of the organization as well as some of our favorite highlights from 2019. In a word, this past year has been about expansion and the many ways Catalyst is now impacting the lives of young people and artists through our innovative opportunities. Concerts remain a staple and in 2019 we hosted an organizational record of 114 live performances across the Twin Cities metro for over 13,500 artists and attendees. Thanks to an equipment support grant from the Metropolitan Regional Arts Council, our performance opportunities have now expanded to include a live- streamed “video session” series with a live audience inside The Garage’s 2,000 sq. ft. recording studio. Our after school music production, recording, songwriting, and performance programs have expanded to not only include “Burnsville Made Music” at The Garage but also “East Side Connection,” which is being offered in East St. Paul in partnership with the YMCA and Boys & Girls Club in East St. Paul. Speaking of St. Paul, we were successful in hitting our 2019 fundraising goals in support of The Treasury, our new all ages (no 18+ or 21+ restrictions) music venue and educational facility. Be sure to check out the pictures of the demolition in the enclosed report. Construction is set to begin shortly after the new year, and we can’t wait to provide you with updates as we prepare to open our doors in 2020! Lastly, I would also like to take this opportunity to thank our board members, staff, community partners, donors, volunteers, and supporters who have enabled us to continue our work serving the Twin Cities music community. The Garage & Treasury — and our work to empower young people through music — wouldn’t exist without your support. I am so proud of our staff and their accomplishments as we grow and continue serving our community. Thank you for being a part of this amazing journey and here’s to The Garage’s 20th in 2020! Sincerely, Jack Kolb-Williams Co-founder & Executive Director Twin Cities Catalyst Music

    Dear Music Lover,

As the executive director and co-founder of Twin Cities Catalyst Music (Catalyst) I am proud to share with you updates on the state of the organization as well as some of our favorite highlights from 2019.

Thanks to an equipment support grant from the Metropolitan Regional Arts Council, our performance opportunities have now expanded to include a live-streamed “video session” series with a live audience inside The Garage’s 2,000 sq. ft. recording studio.

    Sincerely,

Jack Kolb-WilliamsCo-founder & Executive DirectorTwin Cities Catalyst Music

  • MISSION

    OUR STORY

    SPONSORS

Catalyst is dedicated to giving young people equitable access and opportunities in the Twin Cities music scene, while growing them as people prepared to make the world work for them.

This is primarily achieved through The Garage, an all-ages (no 18+ or 21+ restrictions) music venue, recording studio, and educational facility. There young people can live out their musical passions--whether it’s performing in front of their peers; participating in workshops to develop real life music industry skills; recording and producing their own music in our studio; or seeking career training through our internship opportunities in live sound production, marketing, event management, recording engineering, and digital journalism.

In 2015, Twin Cities Catalyst Music assumed operational control of The Garage music venue, recording studio, and educational facility to provide young people of the Twin Cities an opportunity to see live music, develop meaningful skills, and cultivate their passions.

Catalyst is moving to expand into East St. Paul to replicate its nonprofit operational model to “bring the music to the people” in a more centrally located space that is more accessible for young people in the Twin Cities metro. We are striving daily to better reflect those we serve, improve upon our work, and ensure that all who wish to participate will be presented with their best opportunity to succeed.

In 2020, THE GARAGE will be celebrating its 20th year as a venue that not only serves young people in the Twin Cities, but individuals from all over the world who come to utilize the facility. This milestone is also a celebration of the importance of all ages music which provides consistent arts opportunities for young people in the community.

In choir you don’t get to write or record your own music, but with The Garage you have the opportunity to make your own. Keisha, Burnsville Made Music participant

Kids are kind of the backbone of local music. They get put on to a lot of music early and they help out with gaining popularity for bands a lot, so it’s important they have spaces.

Everyone my age complains about “these kids these days”. We need to have all ages things so people can come and see really cool music without having to be 21! Bruce, parent of GARAGE performer
