GOALS FOR 2018-2019
YOUNG GOVERNORS
In fall 2017, YG, along with volunteers, helped students with college prep. This year’s team decided to focus on challenging the stereotypes about people who are experiencing homelessness, and on building bridges within our community. All of our high school seniors are college- bound!
For sustainable program leadership. We will be
hiring a YG alum as our first paid intern this
summer.
To reach more youth who would benefit from YG
and reflect the diversity of the community.
PARTNER WITH US IN PRAYERThe needs of our youth extend beyond the scope of the program but cannot be ignored. We want to serve our youth in ways that meet real needs. For ease of transition for our college-bound seniors.
OUR MISSION
Equipping youth with the tools they need to create a positive change with their peers, families, community, and the world.

ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE
To provide free English as a Second Language instruction to the local immigrant community using the “communicative” method.
Meybol Geramita | Program Director | [email protected]
Great kick-off in September enrolling 25+
students. As the year progressed, there were
“drop-offs” but the core has still remained at 4-
6 students per class.
Our volunteer teachers, a very committed
group, continue to provide quality instruction
and friendship to the students. We were thrilled
that our Katie (Thursday nights) got a teaching
assignment in China for one year. The Lord
provided an additional volunteer on Sundays,
but the class Katie taught had to be merged
with the Thursday Basic English class.
Classes are provided on Thursdays and Sundays.
Basic English and English instruction at two
levels. We also provide a Conversation Class on
Sundays, which is popular with advanced
students.
New materials (teachers’ & students’ books) will
be re-assessed to make sure we are all on the
same page, providing students with the best
curriculum.
Keep trying to get volunteer teachers. This
continues to be our most difficult goal. We will
be down two volunteers starting September, and
the English Level 1 class on Thursdays needs to
be opened in order for the Basic Beginners to
advance.
Provide training for volunteer teachers.
PARTNER WITH US IN PRAYER
We are in need of volunteers, not only to have proper classes, but to give a “respite” to those who serve diligently year after year! We ask for prayer in securing a proper room for the Sunday Conversation Class. We need a quiet space for the class to be taught. St. John’s University’s continued participation in our program.
We are thankful that rooms have been provided
for our sessions.
We partnered with St. John’s University to host
their students in our sessions. They continue to
be an invaluable resource with our basic
beginners group.

FOOD & CLOTHING PANTRY & HOMELESS MINISTRY
To provide emergency assistance to those in need within our community, primarily through food, clothing, and spiritual/emotional encouragement, to share the love of Jesus.
Jeff Kolsch | Program Director | [email protected]
A new Homeless manager, Ivan, took over and has exceeded in his position. We are now preparing more food in-house and serving new/additional recipes. We serve an average of 40 people three times a week with a hot meal, a “ready to eat” pantry bag, as well as clothing and a spiritual message of hope.Besides providing food assistance and clothing to our pantry guests, we bring a Christian message of hope in their native language. We also offer prayer and an ear to listen for those in emotional distress. Our statistics show that for each bag of food we distribute it will typically be used to feed 3 people for 3 meals. Based on those stats, we estimate we are providing supplemental food to approximately 1,200 people, each week.
Expand volunteer opportunities with current and
new organizations.
Find a Saturday Pantry Manager to supervise
operations and volunteers.
Partner with housing organizations to provide
homeless with housing/shelter.
PARTNER WITH US IN PRAYER
That we find a Saturday Pantry Manager to supervise operations and volunteers. That our Homeless Ministry Manger, Ivan, is no longer homeless. That wee always have enough food and not turn anybody away, and share Jesus to all.
Started strategic partnerships with colleges and churches for volunteer opportunities. Volunteers are mindful to serve our guests in a respectful and dignified way. It does not go unnoticed as some guests have come to Christ and have become volunteers themselves.

We saw 234 new patients in 2017 during the
Tuesday night and Saturday morning FREE walk-in
health center hours.
Five outdoor summer health fairs served 192
individuals from ages 13 to 89! We have now served
patients from 111 different countries of origin.
A series of health talks were developed by our
interns and medical students. Thirteen health talks
were shared at the Boulevard Family Shelter to 335
individuals.
The shower ministry for the homeless provided
2,386 showers and toiletries to 316 different
individuals throughout 2017.
We continue to partner with La Jornada Ministries in
Flushing, NY, to engage homeless men and day
laborers.
For the fifth year, faculty from the College of
Pharmacy at St. John’s University provided free flu
vaccines at the health center. Their students also
partnered with us at two of our community health
fairs and several health talks.
In conjunction with the NY Blood Center, our
eleventh annual blood drive saw 73 registered
donors contribute 45 pints of blood.
A grant was secured from the American Dental
Association to provide preventative dental education
to parents and toddlers in the Elmhurst Hospital
pediatric waiting room. Sixty dental students from
across NYC were selected and trained to participate
in this program using puppets and a pre- and post-
survey of the educational program. The program
began in January and concludes in May (2018). It has
been extremely successful, and there are plans to
continue in fall 2018. 2,462 patient/client visits in 2017.

PARTNER WITH US IN PRAYER
Pray that our volunteers would see the patients and homeless individuals with the eyes and compassion of Jesus. Pray that God would make smooth the final stage of the Article 28 license process--a site visit--and give the church favor in their pursuit of the Certificate of Occupancy. Pray that our medical students would grow in their commitment to Jesus and serving the poor.
We want to give a special thank you for the significant investment New Life made in the Health Center through the Christmas Offering! Know that your gifts are helping us touch people’s lives with the love of Jesus.
Athena Health provided an Electronic Health Record (EHR) system at no charge. With this new EHR, the health center reintroduced our free clinic care model on June 20, 2017. Beginning in January 2018, we started providing health services to clients of Restore NYC, an organization that serves women rescued from sex- trafficking. The health center is open every other Thursday for seven hours with a female staff of health care professionals trained to serve this unique population. Every client is given a one-hour appointment, and the women are loving the attention and care they receive.
