OUR ACHIEVEMENTS We at Tagore International School Vasant Vihar, tried to raise the bar of

achievement for ourselves with each passing year, and with dedication and

perseverance have been able to meet our academic and co-curricular

commitments with a satisfaction which comes only after the task well done.

Our initiatives have been applauded and have brought us prestigious awards

that were truly deserved. These awards constantly motivate us to better

ourselves in each of our endeavours.

The school won the 'Global Sustainable School Award 2017' for

promoting UN Global Sustainable Goals through education in the

academic year 2016-17.

School bagged the award for being a 'Skill Centric School' in an

International felicitation held by Confederation of Indian Universities in

October 2017. Five teachers of our school received this award for their

exemplary teaching. The event took place at India International Centre

on the occasion of National Skill Development Summit. The teachers

who received the award are:

THE INTERNATIONAL DIMENSION

In January 2017, World Scholar’s Cup organized its Delhi NCR regional round. Our school sent two teams. They performed exceptionally well, and were invited to the global round at Hanoi, which was held in the last week of June 2017. The team of Shrey Chhabra, Sanjeet Agarwal and Aamod Mehrish were the runners up, in the South Asia division, and out of 2000 participants, their team stood 33rd. The team has also been invited to the tournament of champions at Yale University. The other team also performed well with students winning awards.

The Giffoni Film Festival (GFF), Italy provides a one of a kind platform to international juries, composed of about 600 youngsters of ages 3 years and above, to stay with local Italian families in Salerno, and spend their days at the venue of the event in Giffoni. Six students of the school accompanied by Ms. Yachana Villaitrani attended the same from in July 2017.

Seven students, accompanied by Ms. Gauri Sen went to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, to participate in the International Royal Military Young Scientist Conference and Exhibition (i-RYSCE) from 10 July to 15 July 2017. The school was one of the four schools representing India at this expo. The school team bagged four bronze medals and one gold medal. Pratyush Saini of class VII won the Youngest Scientist Award at the age of 11. Back in India, the students met Dr.Harshvardhan, minister at Ministry of Science & Technology, Government of India, at his residence and received a certificate of appreciation signed by him.

Abhay N Hari, of class XI-D, attended the Pennsylvania School for Global Entrepreneurship (PSGE) summer program held at Leigh University, Pennsylvania, from in June and July 2017, as one of two students selected from India. The PSGE programme is a global platform for students to attain real life business and entrepreneurial experience and skills.

Nineteen students and two

teachers, Ms. Rima Pant and Ms.

Anjali Wats visited Lyon, France on

a Student Exchange Programme

with Le Collège Maria-Casarès,

Rillieux de Papes, in November

2017. During their stay at Rillieux,

the students participated in a

number of cultural exchange

activities with the students of the partner school. The students were hosted by

the Mayor of the town. Television telecast of the entire Exchange programme

was carried on their news channel and the students also featured in the local

French newspapers.

WE CARE (Projects by the school)-

Active citizenship is the need of the present times. The students took up

various social projects in this academic year which were designed to create

the leaders of tomorrow who would be true change makers.

Our Project Sehpaathi, under which we adopted a school in village Joniawas

(Haryana), won the prestigious Tgelf Youth Leadership award. Project heads

Arsh Misra and Syed Sameed Anwar received certificates and cash prizes on

behalf of the team in November at Vigyan Bhawan. Since its inception as the

youngest campaign of the school in March 2017, the campaign has aimed to

provide quality education to the students of Government Senior Secondary

School in Joniawas.

Our campaign “Flawless Flaws” which is headed and coordinated by Ishana

Agarwal, of class XI, partnered up with Acid Survivors Foundation India

(ASFI). We presented our stand in our sister school Tagore International

School, East of Kailash & Dayal Singh College in New Delhi as also in Bethune

College and La Martiniere for Girls in Kolkata. Through our Street Plays, we

have successfully convinced people not to buy acid as well as trained them on

how to act in an incident involving acid attack violence.

In November 2017 we had a small ceremony where we invited Ms.Miskeena, Ms.Nisha and Ms.Gulista who are acid attack survivors. We contributed 1 lakh for their medical treatment.

Breaking Barriers, India’s first school-level LGBTQI+ campaign, did their all to show their roaring enthusiasm at the Delhi Queer Pride-2017 in November. Breaking Barriers also continued with their presentation— which shed light on various aspects of the LGBT+ community, including basic terminologies, discrimination, and the legal aspects.

The senior members held a session for the teachers of the school in March

2017, a session at Maharaja Agrasen School in April 2017, and a session for

our senior school in July 2017.

Next session, Breaking Barriers plans to hold a landmark event, Polychrome, for schools across the NCR and NGOs, making international ties, and working on our e-magazine, Thrive.

The “D.A.R.E. to Rise” campaign focuses on creating and spreading

awareness about the harmful nature and long-term effects of dependence on

drugs. The campaign started with the study of a basic survey conducted by the

United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and went on to ultimately

win the Junior Astitva Award for outstanding contribution to the society.

The ‘Sentinels of Safety’ campaign was formally launched in March 2017 to

prepare a team which is equipped with skills to handle self and others during

any kind of disaster. A core team of 25 members headed by Nikita Pant and

Hardik Suri of X C was created with training sessions and workshops

conducted for their initiation. During the year, the members helped in

organising and conducting regular ‘Evacuation Drills’ within the school. The

campaign also partnered with ‘Safetipin’, an organization that has created a

crowd source app for the user to check the safety of a location. The core team

of the project was also a part of the closing ceremony of the ‘Road Safety

Campaign’ organized at India Habitat Centre in May 2017.

The Tagorean Awareness Society (TAS) led by Anukriti Chawla and Trisha Sodhi of class XI B carried out various activities including:

Cleanliness: TAS has instated the ‘Cleanest Classroom Award’ for the middle school. The winner is announced once in a month.

Samarpan School: TAS members regularly interact with the students of Samarpan School, Vasant Kunj. Digitization Project: Over a 100 students from classes VIII to X supported by teachers participated in a digitization marathon to convert scanned books into readable format that can be accessed by screen reading softwares. This novel idea by Ms. Anubhuti Bhattacharya, the Project Manager was to promote inclusiveness and accessibility of the visually challenged. They managed to convert 1369 pages.

In 2014 with the aim that students express their problems and understand solutions better from their peers, with whom they can truly connect and empathize, the campaign Peer Mentoring was formed through an initiative by the school. In 2017 the student mentors conducted sessions in junior classes where they

discussed issues like bullying, self-esteem, anger management and so on using visual aids and skits.

GREEN INITIATIVES The school has taken significant steps to reduce its carbon footprint and contribute to a cleaner environment. This is a way of teaching our students the importance of taking little steps towards creating a better world. GREEN TEEN- the Eco Club in school was created in the year 2011. Students of classes VI-XII are part of this club and are working passionately towards protecting the environment. Few projects undertaken are:

NATIONAL LEVEL COMPETITIONS

H. Shweta of IX C took part in Music

Competition “SARGOTSAVAM 2017” and

won third prize in Carnatic Classical Music for

seniors. This is an annual state level

music/dance/fine art competition held under

the aegis of Kerala Education Society, Delhi.

Maruti Suzuki sponsored A World In Motion(AWIM) regionals for the Delhi

region was held at Gurugram in October 2017. Our Jet Toy team comprising of

Sakina Nadeem , Aryan Kalra , Aishani Kumar of VI C and Rehan Ahmed of VI

A were declared the overall winner of the jet toy competition and were also

awarded the category

overall winner of skimmer competition and were also awarded the category

awards for accuracy and weights round. Both the teams then competed in the

AWIM nationals at Pune in January 2018 and won accolades.

Rhea Luthra of VI C qualified for the National

level of the French Spell Bee 2017 competition.

She was awarded a medal and a prize for the

same.

F1 in Schools, a national event organized by Time of Sports began in the

month of October 2017 and culminated with events spread over three days in

January 2018 at Ambience Mall, Gurugram. Team VOLARE from our school

comprising of 6 students from classes VII-X represented school in this event.

They designed a prototype of Formula1 Car and raced it on the tracks.

presented a trick to solve

selected for the national level

round.

Neev Swarnakar of X B acted in a short film named

'Kaagpanth'. The acting work of Neev has been

appreciated by the entire cast and crew.

Anveshan is an annual Heritage based music event organized by ITIHAAS-The

Indian, Traditions and Heritage Society, with the aim of encouraging young

students to explore and experience

their local heritage and weave them

together into a melodious song. 27

INTACH-‘Indian National Trust for art & cultural heritage organized Movie

Making competition called ‘FILM-IT’ at India International Centre, in the

month of February 2017. Saanya Anand of VIII C won ‘Best Direction’ Award

for her movie on ‘Ayurvedic History’.

Tagoreans won the Second prize in the

National Skit Competition on the theme

“Human Being as the Central Value” and

made school proud by their excellent

performance on the topic “Aazaad Bharat” Ki Ghulaam Tasveer.

SPORTS ACHIEVEMENTS

Jaskaran Singh Wahi of XII B was selected as U 19

participant for representing Delhi in Thang Ta

(Manipuri Martial Arts) in 63rd School Games

Federation of India (SGFI) Championship held in

January 2018 in Chattrasal Stadium, New Delhi.

Jaskaran won a Gold medal in U 19 category

defeating opponents from Punjab, Manipur and

Gujarat and was considered a key player of Delhi

team of SGFI.

Sneha Gharu of class XI participated in the National

Games 2017 at Rajiv Gandhi Stadium, Bawana, Haryana

organized by Indian University of Taekwondo in

December 2017. She won silver medal in the senior

girls under 67 Kg weight category .

Our school’s Senior cricket team participated in the Frank Anthony Public

School Cricket Tournament and were Runners Up. Kartikay Gupta of XI A

won the best all rounder trophy and Prateek Kumar of XI A and Aryan Pandita

of IX A shared the best bowler trophy after taking 7 wickets each in the

tournament.

Our school's Junior (Under-10) Football team secured the first position in the

1st Paul George Memorial Football Tournament 2017-18 held at Paul

George Global School in November 2017.

Championship held at GNMC Stadium, Warangal, Telangana in September-

October 2017.He also participated in Inter school Sports and Games

competition 2017-18 organised by CBSE and won the Gold medal in Judo

championship held at Bal Bharti Public School, Dwarka in October 2017.

EVENTS OF THE YEAR

LEAD ON

O n 31 October 2017, the student council of school hosted its now decade old Annual Leadership Summit, Lead On 2017. The event was graced by two eminent personalities - Ms. Sheila Dikshit, an efficient administrator and a charismatic leader and Mr. Adnan Sami Khan, the British born Indian singer, musician, pianist and music composer, who were also the keynote speakers for the day. The theme for this year’s session, ‘Perseverance, Power, Pride’ emphasized on each participant seeking opportunities to realize the power within them, taking pride in that power and in perseverance, thus paving the path to a brighter future.

The student Council was highly appreciated for their innovative thinking in

planning the event. Lead On 2017 saw the enthusiastic participation of

students from over thirty schools from Delhi and NCR in all.

TISMUN

Tagore International School, Vasant Vihar held its fourth edition of the prestigious TISMUN on 29-30th July 2017. The event, organized by a secretariat of senior students of the school, was a resounding success. Around 370 delegates from prestigious schools of Delhi and NCR went through two days of heated debate, clever lobbying and skilled negotiations.. TISMUN this year simulated 8 dynamic committees, namely the United Nations General Assembly, Security Council, JCC(North Vietnam- China), JCC(South Vietnam-USA), Supreme Court of India, Nuclear Security, and Bank of International Settlements. More so, the Jawaharlal Nehru Cabinet was simulated in the

MUN circuit for the first time, which has set a benchmark for other MUN’s in the MUN Circuit.

BUNKASAI

The Japanese festival ‘Bunkasai’ had Inter School Origami Competition,

Kimono wearing, the Japanese tea ceremony and ikebana arrangement

competitions .The festival saw more than 35 Schools from all over Delhi

participate in 7 categories of competitions.

LiFe MOSAIC 2017

We hosted our twelfth One - Day Literary

Festival- LIFE Mosaic, an Inter- School

event, on 22 August 2017. Pioneered by

Ms. Rumna Mitra Lala, HOD (English), the

event this year had an overwhelming

participation of students from classes XI

and XII from reputed schools of Delhi and

the NCR region. The festival with the

theme ‘Freedom to Dream’ comprised of

four events viz. Vers-e-style or poetry innovation and recitation, Illuminarti

which had the participants designing an illuminated Manuscript page,

Spotlight – A musical, wherein the participants had to present an adaptation

of a fairy tale and Bizz.com which had the teams prepare a short PPT or Prezi

on a business model, for revival of business companies incurring

losses. Oxford University Press India, a department of the University Of Oxford

announced Oxford Publication House as the official sponsors for the event.

DOODLE'- CHILDREN'S ART FESTIVAL

School hosted two fun packed days of art workshops, caricature making, live visual storytelling, on the spot drawing contests and many more such activities on 25 November and 26 November in school premises.

Camlin and Doodlestrokes were event partners for the same. The events had on the spot registrations and were open for

one and all .Free workshops by renowned artists were conducted for students and parents who participated enthusiastically in them.
