ANNUAL REPORT2016 - 2017
-
As we close out yet another year of serving our Wyandotte County community, we wanted to share the results of the great work we achieved as an organization. As a United Way, we fight for the health, education, and financial stability of every person in every community. We are a platform for community members to convene, collaborate, and generate resources (money, materials, and volunteers) to tackle the most pressing issues in Wyandotte County. We work to overcome the challenge of limited resources by investing in programs and services that can create a broad impact. This report will highlight how your investment in United Way makes a difference for every person in Wyandotte County.
Your United Way supports more than 50 programs that impact all the building blocks of a better life: health, education, and financial stability. We partner with 30+ agencies in order to create a comprehensive set of services that you support through your donations. Whether we are helping young people earn a GED and work experience through our YouthBuild KCK program, or providing emergency assistance to make sure households can keep lights on as they move through a crisis, United Way of Wyandotte County continues to be there for people in our community.
This has been a year of significant change across the country, and United Way of Wyandotte County is no exception. We bid farewell to our longtime President and CEO while welcoming in new leadership. Yet, our goal remains the same, to mobilize resources that can be used to create positive change in Wyandotte County.
We are happy to report that aside from our strong annual workplace campaigns, corporate contributions, and individual gifts, we attract significant investment from other funders. The Department of Labor awarded United Way of Wyandotte County over $1 million to continue operating our YouthBuild KCK program into 2020. The Kansas City Early Education Funders Collaborative is providing funding for a pilot program of United Way’s Born Learning Academy, an early childhood education program that improves parental engagement. The Corporation for National Community Service awarded funding for our RSVP program, which allows us to connect retired individuals with volunteer opportunities that make a difference. Finally, the Kauffman Foundation awarded $200,000 of capacity building funding in order to improve our data driven decision-making in resource development and community impact.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank our donors, sponsors, agency partners, and labor unions for your significant contributions. We could not do the work we do without your support. We would like to thank our Board of Directors who generously give their time and resources to help sustain a highly efficient organization. And, to our exceedingly professional staff, thank you for your hard work and dedication to making United Way of Wyandotte County great!
