NANOCAT (Nanotechnology and Catalysis Research centre) is a pTJ incorporated by UM in 2012, a UMCoE. Its mission is to be a world leader in “catalysis and nanotechnology” coining sustainability and green technology. NANOCAT research thrust is deploying catal-ysis to support energy, chemical synthesis, environment pollution and global warming mitigation as well as designing smart materi-als as catalyst, sensor, nanocoating, and na-nocomposite.NANOCAT was given a status of HICoE Po-tential in 2013, in catalysis. The Centre has strived to attain a national status for HiCOE (MOHE) as well as NanoCentre (NND, MOSTI) with strong support and commitment from Universiti Malaya since. In the last 3 years, 2013 to 2015, it witnessed a pronounced ex-plosion in its productivity in all aspects

As a national research centre focussing on na-notechnology and catalysis, NANOCAT has come out with a strategic planning in research grant application. With that in mind, the emphasis has been given to five niche areas of NANOCAT which are catalyst design, energy, chemical syn-thesis, and environmental mitigation as well as smart materials.

Funding 2015As a national research center focused on nanotechnology and catalysis research ar-eas, NANOCAT has come out with a strategic planning in research grant application. With that in mind, the emphasis has been given to five niche areas of NANOCAT which are environmental, smart materials, chemical synthesis and energy. This has been clearly translated to the research grant secured by NANOCAT academic staff, which out of RM 6,686,444 total amount of research funding received, 44 % was con-tributed by the environmental catalysis filed, 25 % by Catalytic energy, 30 % by smart materials and 5 % by chemical catalysis. The focused of research grant sources se-lection for NANOCAT Research Center is based on the UM Research Grant, National Grant, International and Industrial grant with the amount percentage of 50%, 24%, 20 % and 6 %, respectively. This brought the total amount of research grant received by NANOCAT Research Center on 2015 is RM 6,6,86,444, This this amount of fund-ing received, NANOCAT research thrust could progressively developing and serving catalysis and nanotechnology research not only in Malaysia basis but also over the international region.
