APRIL 02 2016
Kristu Jayanti College is an autonomous institution affiliated to the Bangalore University,
reaccredited with highest grade 'A' by NAAC. The programmes of the college are imparted
through three deaneries: Science, Humanities and Commerce and Management. The college offers
13 degree programmes, 12 Post graduate programmes, 3 post graduate diploma programmes and
2 research centre [Social Work and Biotechnology]. The college is recognized by UGC under the
category 2(f) and 12 B.
NAAC REACCREDITATION
NAAC peer team visited the campus for validating the quality of learning culture in the
institution from October 05 – 07, 2015.
The institution is accredited with highest grade A for the second consecutive cycle.
STUDENTS & FACULTY STRENGTH
The total number of students in the academic year is 3549 representing all the states in the country
with 45% of girl students and 25% of SC, ST and OBC students. There are 50 foreign students
from 22 nationalities pursuing regular programmes in the institution. There are 132 faculty
members and 41 administrative staff contributing to the academic growth of the students.
RECOGNITIONS RECEIVED
The academic contribution of the college has received several accolades in the present academic
year 2015 - 2016.

NEW INITIATIVES
The college endeavours to prepare students with global competencies to successfully meet the
changing global scenario. Innovative, creative and entrepreneurial approach to skill development
is encouraged among the students.

Introduction of Choice Based Credit System from 2015-2016, with choice of opting
interdisciplinary elective offered by other deaneries.
Department of Computer Science has the prestigious honour of being the first Arts and
Science College in South Asia to have a student chapter of IEEE. It was inaugurated
on 18th September, 2015.
The Department of Social Work of the college signed a Memorandum of Understanding
(MoU) with the Functional Vocational Training Research Society (FVTRS), Bengaluru for
a research collaboration on Development and Validation of Community based
Training model for a period of three years
Department of Management Studies has introduced a new initiative- Curriculum in
Practice: where a module of each course will be handled by industry experts. There were
four experts who engaged these sessions for MBA/ PGDM students

ACADEMIC INITIATIVES IN THE ACADEMIC YEAR 2015-2016
Interactive programmes and scholarly conversation in defining new areas of knowledge facilitate
greater learning atmosphere and intellectual endeavor in the minds of young.
1. FACULTY DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME AND ANNUAL STRATEGIC PLAN
MEET, 2015
The Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of Kristu Jayanti College organised a seven-day
Faculty Development Programme (FDP) and Annual Strategic Planning (ASP) Meet from June
11, 2015 to June 19, 2015. All the faculty members of the college participated in the FDP followed
by the Annual Strategic Plan Meet. The FDP on Academic and Institutional Excellence comprising
of seven sessions was inaugurated on June 11th 2015 by Rev. Fr. Josekutty P. D., Principal, Kristu
Jayanti College. He commenced the FDP with the session ‘Reorientation on CMI Educational
Philosophy’ and also presented the theme of the year- “Reinventing Skills for Global
Competency”.
The second session was on the topic “Innovations in Teaching and Learning” on June 12, 2015.
This session was chaired by Rev. Fr. Augustine George, Vice Principal, Kristu Jayanti College.
The 3rd, 4th, 6th and 7th sessions of the FDP were conducted between June 15th to 18th, 2015 on the
topics, “Code of Conduct for Teachers”, “Research Publication and Ethics”, “Event Management
at Kristu Jayanti College” and “Quality Enhancement of the Institution and Departments”
respectively. The above sessions were conducted by Prof. Aloysius Edward J, Dean, Faculty of
Commerce and Management, Dr. Justin Nelson Michael, Director, Centre for Research, Dr.
Calistus Jude A L, Dean, Faculty of Sciences and Dr. Gopakumar A V, Dean, Faculty of
Humanities.
The FDP also witnessed a Special lecture on “Journey towards becoming a college with Potential
for Excellence” by Dr. Ravindra Phadke, Vice Principal, Ramnarain Ruia College, Mumbai on
June 17, 2015. The FDP was followed by department-wise Annual Strategic Planning meetings.
June 19, 2015 was the final day of the FDP and the ASP during which the departments presented
their strategic plans to the forum chaired by the Management. The plans were critically reviewed
and the feedback and suggestions were given by the Management.

3.9 CULTURAL ACTIVITIES AND ACHIEVEMENTS:
Kristu Jayanti College provides many opportunities for the students to develop their varied
skills and display their talents. The clubs and associations of the college were very active during
the academic year, providing opportunities for students to link academic knowledge with
practical experience, thereby leading to a better understanding of their own abilities, talents,
and career goals. Future employers seek individuals with these increased skill levels, which
make these students more involved and viable in the job market.
The Student’s Council under the leadership of Ms. Tracy (VI BBM) and Mr. Sebe Mathew (VI
Sem B.A) planed and organised various literary & cultural activities in the college. The student
council plays an important role in coordinating and conducting common college events with
the help of Jayantian Ambassadors such as Kalajyothi (Intracollegiate Literary & Cultural fest
– UG), Kridotsava – Annual Sports day, Nrityanjali – Intercollegiate Dance Fest, Woodrock –
Music Concert, Nrityadarpan – Dance Concert, Samyagdarshan - College Day and Common
Felicitations organised in the quadrangle and auditoria.

The expert coaching provided has nurtured the innate talents of the students, and their success
is revealed in awards and recognitions received at Intercollegiate, zonal and National level fests
Kalajyothi – the annual Intra-collegiate Literary, Cultural fest for UG Students
[20/07/2015 -25/07/2015] featured 47 events and witnessed the involvement of 700
students in five categories of events – Literary, Fine arts, Theatre, Music & Dance.
Woodrock Music Fests [18/09/2015 & 17/03/2016] - featured the musical talents of
students. Several genres/styles of western music were adopted and performed by
Jayantians. The programme was coordinated by the music faculty Mr. Ebenezar
Premkumar.
Nritya Darpan [5/03/2016] featured the programmes of 70 Jayantian dancers trained
in various forms of dance. Yakshagana, Bharathanatyam, Bollywood dance, western
dance, International contemporary, NE traditional dance, Jazz performance, Indian
contemporary dance portraying zodiac signs, Maharashtra’s Lavani and Karnataka’s
Kamsalaya were performed.
Nrityanjali – the annual intercollegiate dance festival [20/02/2016] witnessed the
participation of students from 25 colleges in the country.
Department of Commerce organised Jai Hind – Independence Day Celebration on
14/08/15.
Communal harmony and Ethnic Day was celebrated on 28/08/2015.
The Department of Tourism organised a food festival and Exhibition [18/09/15] that
showcased culinary skills and knowledge on ethnic food of India. An International Food
Festival was organised on 20/02/16.
Sargotsav the annual Intra-collegiate Literary Cultural fest for Post Graduate Students
was conducted on 7/04/2016. An array of activities like music, theatre, dance and fine
arts were set forth to explore innate talents of students.
3.10 ENTREPRENEURSHIP DEVELOPMENT CELL [EDC]
Entrepreneurship Development Cell [EDC] of the college aims tirelessly to inculcate a
culture of innovation driven entrepreneurship through students. The EDC motivates,
encourages and spreads the knowledge and skills which an individual needs to acquire to be an
entrepreneur and help the society in order to make it a better place. The cell serves as a mentor
for Jayantian entrepreneurs.
Major activities [2015-2016]
● Conduct training programs in collaboration with Entrepreneurship Development
Institute of India (EDII), Ahmedabad and National Entrepreneurship Network (NEN).
● Certificate Course in Entrepreneurship Development.
● E-STORE: The E Cell provided an opportunity for two students every week on Thursday
from September 15 to October 15 to exhibit their entrepreneurial skills by coming up with
a creative stall and sell products in the college campus. Vasanth and Asma [III sem B.Com],
Sonia and Vishnu [V sem BBM], Heera and Jaisri [V sem BBM], Faizan and Vinita [III
sem B.B.M] and Dillyn and Hannah [I sem B.Sc] had established E-store in this academic
year.
● E-WEEK: Kristu Jayanti College celebrated E-week from 22/02/2016 to 29/02/2016
with Startup India action plan aimed at furthering the entrepreneurship spirit of Jayantians.
42 stalls were inaugurated on the same day. Budding entrepreneurs were actively involved
in workshop, business plan and short film competitions.
3.11 WOMEN EMPOWERMENT CELL
The cell strives to involve girl students in sensitisation and awareness programmes on issues
relating to women and society. The annual programmes of the cell include the conduct of :

● Celebration of international women’s day.
● Awareness programmes on the issues of children & women.
● Provide support towards entrepreneurial ventures of girl students.

● Srujana, An Annual Art and Craft Exhibition [04/09/2015] displayed the artistic talents of
girl students.
● Guest lecture on Anaemia and Women Health by Dr. Eileen Solomon, Associated with
NGO for HIV care and Prevention [23/02/2016] was organised for the I year students.
● Guest lecture on Breast Cancer by Dr. Nitya Dhruve, Clinical Psychologist [08/03/2016]
was organised for final year girl students.
● International women’s day was celebrated grandly – events such as Skit portraying the
achievements of Indian women, special lecture and talent competition.
3.10 ENVIRONMENT CLUB
● The Environmental Club, under the guidance of the Department of Life Sciences,
conducts an awareness programme for all the Under Graduate students.
● E-waste management drive was organised in collaboration with Centre for Social
Activities (CSA) during 3/08/2015, 4/08/2015 & 5/08/2015 to sensitise the student
community on the awareness of E-waste disposal and recycling.
● A MoU has been signed with ITC Ltd for the recycling of paper waste in August 2015.
The college was appreciated for contributing 1902 Kgs of Paper for recycling and for
saving 48 trees.
● Creatrix-Exhibition was organised in association with the Department of Life Sciences
with an emphasis on waste management. The Club also co-ordinates in the conduct of
green audit of the campus.
3.11 PERSONAL GUIDANCE, COUNSELLING AND ACADEMIC MENTORING
The college has a counselling centre and guidance cell with an in-house counsellor available at
college working hours. The students can receive personal and professional guidance at the
centre from Dr. Alice Aloysius. As mentors, faculty members guide students and whenever
required direct them to the college counsellor for further guidance. The faculty members of the
department also serve as academic mentors.
The college also provides medical facilities, and a doctor is available in campus for consultation
once a week.
3.12 INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS FORUM
Membership: 50 Students from 22 countries; 2 Faculty members
Educational culture prevailing in the campus opens its door to overseas students. The college
is witnessing a growth in the number of International students over the years. The International
Students Forum (ISF) directed by the Vice-Principal and faculty coordinator caters to the
requirements of students.

4. EXTENSION PROGRAMMES - JAYANTIAN EXTENSION SERVICES (JES)
4.1 NATIONAL SERVICE SCHEME [NSS]
In accordance with the NSS motive of enabling students to make a positive contribution
towards the community, the Annual special NSS Camp of Kristu Jayanti College was held
with the theme “Skills for Global Competency” in Basti Betta, Mandhaargiri, Panditanahalli,
Tumkur taluk from 24/11/2015 to 30/11/2015 to promote leadership skills and social
consciousness for NSS volunteers.
The students carried out social surveys, conducted awareness campaign on health & hygiene
and communicable diseases; volunteered in sanitation and cleanliness drives. Shramadhan-
repair of village roads, Swachh Bharat initiative in the premises of Government school was
carried out. The regular activities of the NSS are conducted at neighbouring villages of K.
Narayanapura and Kothanur.

● Celebration of Vana Mahotsava – planting of sapling [07/07/2015].
● Dengue Awareness Campaign at K. Narayanapura, Geddalahalli, Nagenahalli,
Kothanur and Byrathi [30/07/15 to 03/08/15]. The campaign involved 400 students of
the college, an average of 100 houses were visited every day and 3000 beneficiaries.
● Elections Awareness Campaign [22/08/2015].
● The Road Safety Campaign was conducted by the NSS Unit on 17/12/2015. The
programme included an oath-taking ceremony by the students of the college to follow
traffic rules and regulations, a poster presentation on traffic signs and a bike rally to
promote road safety in the nearby area.
● Annual Blood Donation Camp was organised in collaboration with TTK Blood Bank,
Nimhans Blood Bank, Lions Blood Bank on 17/12/2015. 414 units of blood were
donated.
● Jayantian Extension services organised a Swachh campus drive [Clean Campus drive]
with the support of all Jayantians on 01/10/2015 and 17/03/2016.
● Gram Swachh: A Swachh Bharat Abhiyan programme was organised at Bagalur Gram
Panchayat [02/10/2015].
● Youth week was celebrated from 11/01/2016. Training programmes on leadership,
teamwork and women health were organised.
4.2 NATIONAL CADET CORPS [NCC]
NCC is the single largest uniformed youth organisation of the world which functions to develop
character, secular outlook, comradeship, discipline, leadership and ideals of self-less service
among youth. The college has a NCC army wing under 2 `A` coy 3KAR (BN) NCC. Students
are enrolled for a period of 2 years. There are 80 NCC cadets this academic year.

4.3 CENTRE FOR SOCIAL ACTIVITIES [CSA] Enhancing student learning through
Service Social Skills promote positive behaviour, appropriate social interaction and effective
functioning as an individual. The Centre for Social Activities has been established to promote
social concern and good citizenship among the student community through extension and
social outreach programmes.
ACTIVITIES 2015-2016
● Yoga Day - CSA volunteers organised a demonstration of Yoga and participated in the
programme organised at the Kanteerava Stadium, Bangalore [21/06/2015].
● An awareness campaign on dengue fever and mosquito control measures was organised
in collaboration with BBMP [12/09/2015].
● An E-Waste Drive was organised on the 3/08/2015, 4/08/2015 & 5/08/2015 in campus
and neighbourhood.
● 'Gramasamveditha' - Rural Exposure Camp, was organised at E. Thimmasandra,
Siddalagatta Taluk from 10/12/2015 to 13/12/2015 to sensitise students with rural life
and livelihood issues.
● Vanmahotsav – planting of saplings on 11/07/2015, at Primary Health Centre, Bagalur
● Vikas Kendra- Free Tuition programme was organised at K. Narayanapura and
Kothanur Government School during 23/11/2015 to 28/11/2015.
● Blood Donation Camp was organised on 12/01/2016.
4.4 SOCIAL OUTREACH PROGRAMME (SOP) was initiated as a part of Jayantian
Extension Services (JES) for all the III Sem UG students with the objective to reach out to the
marginalised and underprivileged. It also sensitises students about the realities of the society
and cultivates people oriented attitude and concern for others.

Department of Psychology organised an extension project at Ashalaya for training mentally
challenged children. Students visited Love Dale Foundation, Home of Hope, NIMHANS,
Ashalaya, Kaleidoscope to learn and apply various psychological theories in practice.

Computer Literacy Programme was organised by the Department of Computer Science. II

First-year students of Management Studies underwent 'Gramasamveditha' - Rural Exposure
Camp at Ethimmasandra Village, Shidlaghata Taluk, Chikkaballapur from 13/8/15-15/8/15.
They also visited Byalahalli village in Kolar District on 25/01/2016 and undertook village study
and survey.
The Department of Life Sciences, in collaboration with Jayantian Extension Services,
organised Health Awareness camp on 27/11/2015 at Basti betta, Mandhaaragiri village.
The Department of Social Work organised visits to NGO and awareness programmes at
several places, to name a few, Christel House [16/03/2016], Bosco Yuvakendra [16/03/2016],

Vidhyashala, Sriramanahalli [20/11/2015] Krupa School, Davis Road [17/11/2015], Shishu
Mandir School [17/11/2015] and BIRDS [17/11/2015]. Awareness programmes on climate
change, Child Rights, Alcoholism, education, role of parents etc. were organised in this
academic year.
