NISD’s continuous efforts, to activate the education department and coordinate with them properly,

helped us to take various activities in the schools, for SMC members and teachers. This all helped us

to create an positive atmosphere in this area, among people as well as among the teachers. All these

stake holders are coming forward to improve their school as well educational quality. NISD

succeeded, to great extent to involve local people so that they contribute financially in the school

infrastructure and keeping close contacts with the schools in all ways. On the hygiene and sanitation

front, besides the number of problems like shortage of water, shortage of sand etc. we are working

hard to complete the construction of the toilets, with the help of Govt. officers, local Panchayat,

local leaders etc. NISD is trying to complete the target as per the schedule. The employable training

programme is also popular among the youth and different courses are conducted for them. However

there is a great need to create confidence among them and support them financially to start income

generation activities. Though we worked hard, yet the local banks are very reluctant and it is difficult

to receive financial support for the SHG members from these financial institutions. However the SHG

itself is supporting their members to start small income generation units or satisfy their emergency

needs by small loans.

1. Increased Enrolment of school age children:

NISD, with close coordination with the local schools, is keeping an eye that the enrolled children so

that they should keep continuing their schooling and not drop out due to various reasons. Our social

workers, RIP teachers etc. have convinced the children as well as their parents so that the child will

attend the school on a regular basis. If a child does not have education material or has some problem,

NISD staff tried to solve their problems. NISD also sees that children will retain interest in schooling

and for that purpose different programmes were organized in the schools such as RIP classes, library,

competitions, school health, providing play material etc.

2. Higher Completion Rate at Primary Level:

NISD has done very well in establishing contacts with all the stakeholders and due to this has got very

encouraging results. Govt. programmes, particularly in the educational field are jointly organised by

NISD and the government department and performed very well with good understanding with each

other’s support. Even financial contributions for such programs, are also done by local people,

education department and NISD. This has brought more transparency in the implementation of the

government programmes. During this quarter the following programmes were undertaken by NISD.

158 schools of Sangamner block participated. A Total of 9673 children ( M 4875, F 4798) participated

of these 644 children ( M 327, F 317) were selected for RIP II classes. These children come regularly

to the RIP class and the teachers are also satisfied with the progress made by these children.
