After a successful adni "Swagath", the degree managing trustee, Smt. Ar essful admission

process the academic year 2014-15 began on an auspicious note with the degree induction

programme. The occasion was marked by the presence of the trustee, Smt. Archana Surana

and Principal Dr. B. S. Srikanta. The Chief Guest for the day Brigadier Arun who enthralled

the audience with his energy and positive attitude. Achievers in academics and extra-

curricular activities were awarded during the program.

CULTURAL ACTIVITIES

The Cultural Committee's calendar began with the Independence Day Celebration. The flag

was hoisted by Nadoja Dr. Chidananda Murthy, eminent Kannada poet. Shri Dilip Surana,

Chairman, MicroLabs & Smt. Archana Surana, Managining Trustee, who also presented

awards to NSS volunteers and our own Yoga Expert, a student from I yr B.Com, Rajeshachari.

Anveshana, the college Freshers day was celebrated to welcome the new entrants and to

give them an opportunity to display their talent in different fields such as singing, dancing as

well as general knowledge.

Saraswathi Pooja was performed to invoke the blessings of the goddess of learning by the

students. staffand the management. Varnothsava, our college's annual cultural fest was

conducted with much fanfare. This year's theme was state festivals. The states chosen were

Rajasthan, West Bengal, Maharastra and Karnataka (Dakshina Kannada). The chief guests

were eminent personalities from the fields of cinema and theatre Shri Sanchaya Ganesh and

Shri Anand Sabhapathy.

Paraspara, the annual event for all faculty members of Surana College was conducted over

a span of three exciting days with creative competitions that got all the faculty members on

their toes. There were six groups named after the six seasons and the activities conducted

this year were Quiz on Karnataka, Medley Relay event, Group Song, Tug of War and many

others.

Parva, the college Annual Day was a celebration of academic, co-curricular and extra-

curricular success combined with an electrifying cultural extravaganza. The prices on the

occasion were given away by the chief guest Shri Dhananjaya, Kannada Film Star and the

Principals of Surana Group of Institutions.

DEPARTMENT OF ENGLISH

Dr. Anuradha Roy, HOD, Department of English, Seshadripuram College conducted a

workshop on "Understanding Verbal Ability Tests' for all final year students.

An inter-collegiate, inter-disciplinary paper presentation seminar was organized

jointly by the Departments of English and Psychology titled "Literary Analysis of

Psychological Concepts: An Inter-disciplinary Approach" where two groups of our

students presented papers .

The department also conducted various competitions and other activities including

the Wallmag. film screening and theatre visits for the students.

DEPARTMENT OF HINDI

The department activities included celebrating 'Hindi Day' and a guest lecture on 'Drama

in Hindi Sahitya' by Dr. Vinay Kumar Yadav, which also included an interclass competition.

Dr. Basavaraju presented a paper in National level Seminar at Maharaja college, Mysore.

DEPARTMENT OF SANSKRIT

The department of Sanskrit celebrated "Sanskrit Day".

Dr. Vydehi participated in a workshop on "Revised Syllabus of Uundergraduate

Courses' held at Vijaya College.

Dr. Nagaratna Hegde presented a paper on "Upanishadi kaavyasoundaryam" at

ISKCON Temple and recited self-composed poetry at the "Gandhi Smrithi Samskrit

Kavi Sangama" organised by Karnataka Sanskrit University and also at the All India

Women Writers' Meet" that was organised in Bhopal.

DEPARTMENT OF KANNADA

Dr Baragur Ramchandrappa inaugurated 'Kannada Sambhrama Sangha' for the

annual year on the occasion of Guruvandane (Teachers Day). He was felicitated in

the presence of Sri Pichalli Srinivas, Chairman of the Kamataka Janapada Academy.

'Computer mathu Kannada' An Introductory textbook on computers in Kannada

published by the department in association with Mitramaadhyama Academy was

released by Sri Raghu Dixit renowned musician.

Dr Vishala Varanashi along with 2 students, participated in "Ninasam Samskrithi

Shibira" an annual academic meet organized in Heggodu.

Dr Sumatindra Nadiga's "Aakantha Lokantha" was released by Dr. Mallepuram

Venkatesh in the presence of Prof. CN Ramchandran and MLC Sri DS Veeraiah.

A guest lecture by Sri Sathyesh N Bellur on 'Change Management was also organised

by the dept.

The department has organised the release function of Sundara Prakashana's books

authored by Dr. Basavaraja Sabarada, Sri C.V. Shivashankar & Sri. Gowri Sundar and

Hemantha Prakashana's book authored by Shri Beluru Rammurthy.

DEPARTMENT OF SCIENCES

Apart from field visits to Lalbagh and GKVK Microbiology Lab, the department of

Botany conducted inter-class cooking without fire and chart making competitions.

The Department of Biotech also conducted an inter-collegiate TECHZONE-MODEL

MAKING competition. The Department also supported various project such as

"Extraction of proteins by salt and solvent method of leaf and fruit of Terminalia

cattappa" done by final year students, "Isolation of DNA from Human Blood cells by

using Agarose gel electrophoresis" and "Isolation and comparison of DNA from Lake

water bacteria with known strains using Agarose Gel Electrophoresis done by

graduating students.

The dept. of Chemistry organized a visit to GKVK Microbiology lab and conducted a

model making, crossword competitions and an IQ test for the students.

The dept. of Physics organized an Educational visit to The Jawaharlal Nehru

Planetarium and guest lecturers on "Stellar Evolution" by Mrs. Shylaja. Director, and

Jawaharlal Nehru Planetarium Another guest lecture on "Research for God's

particle: Present Experiments at CERN" by Dr. G. Venkatesh, Professor of Physics

was also organised.

The Department of Mathematics conducted a Guest lecture on Mathematical

Modeling by Dr S. Pranesh which focused on the Application of Mathematics in real

Life. The department conducted inter-class General Aptitude test and Dumb

Charades for all the students.

HUMANITIES

Department of Journalism

The department activities included Field Visits to Sri Siddhartha Media Center and

Community Radio Station; TV Studio at Tumkur; Press Club; Vidhan Soudha;_Movie

Screening. As promotional activity organised an Orientation Programme by Popular

Radio Jockey Mr. Guru Prasad for the II PUC. The Guest Lecture and promotional

activity by Mr. Naveen Ammemmbala, Chief Reporter of DNA newspaper and weekly

updation of Wall Magazine the "Reporters Desk are few of the highlighting

activities of the dept.

The department also released its first issue of the college newsletter SURANATIMES.

Various internships were organised for the students in media outlets such as

Vijayavani Newspaper and Janashri News channel.

Department of History

Apart from regular annual activities, the department organised a historical field visit

to Lepakshi and Vidurashwatha.

Department of Psychology

The Ingitha Club organised activities such as Film screening, Interclass competitions,

Wallmag editions and Walkathon in association with Youth-Pro volunteers of the

positive psychology unit of NIMHANS, to spread awareness about positive mental

health.

Interdisciplinary seminar on "Literary Analysis of Psychological Concepts: An

Interdisciplinary Approach" was conducted as an inter-collegiate paper presentation

seminar. One student paper is slated for publication in the conference journal of St.

Anne's College.

The final year students completed Internship programmes at Manasa

Neuropsychiatric Hospital and Cadabams Psychosocial Rehabilitation Center.

Department of Political Science

The department screened various important films on political and social issues and

celebrated the birth anniversary of Nelson Mendela.

A seminar on 'Indian Constitution', RTI and Human Rights was also organised by the

department.

Department of Economics

Inter-class competitions were conducted on account of "World population Day". A

Guest lecture by Prof R. Shashi Kumar, Associate Professor, Bangalore University

delivered a speech on "Globalization & its impact on foreign trade in India".

Other activities of the department include an industrial visit to the Karnataka Milk

Federation, interclass currency competition and jewellery making workshop in

association with the Entrepreneurs Development Programme Cell of the college.

Department of Tourism

Departmental Activities included orientation program for the first year students,

Quiz competition and a Guest lecture on "Tourism and Community Development to

commemorate World Tourism Day.

A field visits was organized to "Travel and Tourism Fair" and a 4 days Educational Trip

was organised to Munnar, Alappuzha, Kochin, and Wayanad to educate students

about Tourism destination, Planning and Development.

The dept also assisted students who intemed at various tourism related firms such as

Thomas Cook KSTDC, Cox and Kings and Air India.

DEPARTMENT OF COMPUTER SCIENCE

ESOTERIC the computer club was inaugurated by Dr Chandrasekhar, Consultant,

Infosys. Events such as Memory Game, Pick n speak, Dumb Charades, Product

launch, Collage, IT QUIZ, Group Discussion and IT Manager were organised.

Guest lecturers were organised for BCA students in 'Emerging IT Technologies' to

keep them updated with current market trends.

Short term courses on DOT NET and PHP for final year students was conducted.

Activities like Aptitude, Quiz, Presentations on subjects, and Vocabulary enrichment

were regularly conducted for all semesters.

Student Achievements:

1. BCA students won Overall Trophy for the year 2014-15 in intercollegiate Fest

INTERFACE V 18 held at Christ University.

2. BCA students won Overall Trophy for the year 2014-15 in intercollegiate

competitions held at SL Claret College, Bangalore.

Staff Achievements:

1. Prof A. Srinivas, HOD went as Resource person and spoke on "Usage of ICT in

Research and Academics" at Computer Science Refresher course, Bangalore

university.

2. All degree faculty presented papers at International Conference held at SRN

Adarsh Institute of Management, National Conference held at Sambram Institute of

Technology and Garden City College .

3. Various text books were authored by the faculty members on computer Science

subjects.

DEPARTMENT OF COMMERCE

Vishnu, a final year student won the Skill Gap Assessment Programme Contest held

by 'ARTHAVIDHYA' and is entitled to a full fee waiver to the "Business Accounting

Process" executive course.

Rohit Sharma, a second year has won an iPad by securing highest marks the in

aptitude test conducted by Merit Trac, Assessment Company.

The Praneethi FORUM conducted Management events, Explore for PUC students,

Emporio for first year degree and Pinnacle for all B.Com students.

DEPARTMENT OF MANAGEMENT

The department offered Personality Development Programme by KWEC, TALLY ERP

9, NCFM Beginner's Module and Diploma in Finance & Capital Markets as certificate

courses.

The Proficiency Club of the department conducted Surge, an exclusive management

fest organized by Il year BBM students to identify the potential of 1 year BBM

students.

Industrial visits to Volvo Construction Company and Prerana Packaging Industries

were organised.

All Faculties of the dept attended a one day Workshop on Revised syllabus of

Bangalore University.

GUEST lectures on Sustainability and Business Ethics by Claudius Baumann Bosch.

Entrepreneurship by Kalpana Heblekar, Class Room to Board Room by the faculty of

IMT, Nagpur Bangalore were conducted. and Career opportunities after CMA was

delivered by Mr. Sanjay Singh, Consultant Logic Bangalore were conducted.

A one day Seminar was conducted on Marketing in International Trade and Career

Opportunities.

A Faculty Development Programme on "Intellectual Property Rights- Significance for

Academ in association with VTPC, Bangalore was organized.

Library

NCC

Lt Harisha T, Department of Political Science pursued his training from Officers

Training Academy (OTA) Kamtee, Nagpur and took charge as ANO of Surana College

NCC under 5/3 COY, SKAR BN.

On the occasion of Independence Day celebrations cadets BSUO-Arbaz Khan, CSUO-

Vishal Nazre, CJUO Jeevan R. CSM-Shivraj Kumar Singh and COMS-Naveen Kumar

were awarded ranks.

Cadets participated in Blood donation and Eye checkup camps.

Surana College NCC Unit has conducted unarmed combat techniques for girls. LL Col

Lokesh Saxena trained self-defense techniques to girls as a drive to eliminate sexual

harassment.

Cadets were also taken to a one day trek to Shivgange covering 120 kilometers.

Individual Achievements

CJUO Arbaz Khan was unanimously chosen as the camp senior at CATC

Doddaballapur and was awarded as The Best camp senior under whose leadership

we won the first place in drill competition and the Volleyball team won the runner

up trophy.

25W and 2SD cadets got selected for Bangalore 'B' GROUP TSC troop, where CJUO

Arbaaz Khan was again awarded the Best cadet and the Best parade commander.

The Honorary rank of BSUO (Battalion senior under officer) was given to Arbaaz Khan

by Lt. Col. aveen Chauhan to lead 2.400 cadets of 8KAR BN NCC. He also won the All

India Silver medal at the Jammu & Kashmir Mountaineering Camp.

The cadets attended the IBC camp at Doddaballapur and CATC at Delhi Public School,

Sarjapur Road where they bagged several prizes.

NSS

NSS This year's activities included Volunteering for the ALL India under 14 5-A

Football tournament and rally for Protection of Women against Harassment.

100 NSS volunteers participated in the Independence Day celebrations and in a

Blood Donation Camp in Sathya Sai Hospital .

Tree plantation activity was conducted to commemorate the NSS inauguration by

Prof. G.B. Shivaraju, Honorable Secretary of Gandhi Bhavan.

The volunteers participated in the activity of Naming of Trees in M.N Krishna Rao

Park which was presided by Sr. N.R Ramesh, Corporator, BBMP & Dr. Gunavantha J.

Deputy, Lalbagh Botanical Gardens.

Gandhi Jayanthi celebrations involved a visit to an old age home called Belaku.

Swachatha programme in South End Circle Park was undertaken by the NSS

volunteers and in association with Bengaluru University, the volunteers cleaned the

roads of Rajarajeshwari Nagar with the help of B.B.M. P workers. At Uttarahalli, they

did a door to door Swatchhata campaign.

Volunteers funded 25,000 rupees from our college and 50,000 rupees from NSS

volunteers for "Sports Association For Physically Challenged and our NSS unit leaders

Arun Kumar R and Madhusudhan B.S. were appointed as assistant secretaries for this

association.

Eye Check-up & Blood Donation Camps in association with the Rashtrothana Blood

Bank and donated blood Narayana Hrudyalaya hospital were organised.

More than 200 students and faculty members Special Camp Activity this year was a 7

days stay in Ramakrishna Ashram, Shivanahalli, Banerghatta where volunteers

constructed a check dam in Jaipuradoddi.

SPORTS

RAJESHACHARI M. 1 year B.Com has to his credit various state and national level

awards for Yoga including the Runners up in the Yoga Olympiad and winner in

National Yogasana Championship.

Clinton Andrew, Ganesh, Gagan Reddy & Sharath KP have represented the state at

zonal and national level tournaments including the 65 National Basketball

Championship at Bhilwara.

Manohar, Shravan Rao, Raison Benett Rebello & Omkar G. Jadhav have participated

and won several zonal and national level championships including the federation

cup senior volleyball championship the 'A' division held at Chennai.

Raison has also secured 7" Position in the 10" Asian Youth Boys Volleyball

Championship held at Sn Lanka.

Ponnanna P. E & Subbaiah C.A.Chendanda of Hockey were Winners in the all India

inter University competition held in Anantapur, the 18th Field Marshal K.M.

Cariappa Memorial Hockey Tournament and the 2nd Hockey Bengaluru League

Championship held at Bengaluru.

Ashwathi Satheeshan Shuttle Badminton player Won Silver medal in the Bangalore

University inter collegiate tournament.

Raiavanth Kaur & Sushmitha Fencing champions from our college represented

Bengaluru University in Fencing Competition held in various locations in the country.

YOSHODHA.M & Asha G NETBALL players: Participated in the All India Netball

Championship camp held at Bengaluru University & Annamalai University.

Akshatha & Swathi Table Tennis players Participated in the Bengaluru University

table tennis competition.

Sharath & Suhas Participated in the All India American football Championship Camp

held at Bengaluru University, Punjabi University & Krishna University.

The college Netball team Ravi, Balaji, Gowtham, Vinay Prasad, Sharath Raju &

Manas participated in the All India Netball Championship camp held at Benagluru

University and Annamalai University.

The college Cricket team Yathish, Farhan, Abdul Lateef, Pradeep & Stalin.R

participated in the Belagavi Panthers in the Karnataka Premier League and other

prestigious tournaments.

Ganesh Raju (Best Physique) participated in the Karnataka Amateur Body Builders

Association held at Bengaluru.

Group Events

HOCKEY (Men) Surana College won the Christ University Hockey Tournament, the

K.S.A. hockey tournament held at Mysore & the SPIEL Hockey tournament. They

were also Runners up in the Hockey Karnataka inter college Hockey tournament &

the State Level St. Johns medical college Hockey tournament .

Cricket tournament organised by St. Joseph's College of Commerce.

THROW BALL (WOMEN) Runners up in the SJR College Throw Ball Tournament held

at JNR College Ground .

TABLE TENNIS( Women) Winners in the B.U. Inter Collegiate tournament organized

by I. John College.

Hand ball (Men) Runner up in Intercollegiate Star Shooters tournament Organized by

National College Bengaluru from 30 to 31 Jan 2015.

FENCING (Women) Represented in the B.U.B Inter collegiate Fencing Woman

tournament held at Bengaluru & Punjab University.

SEXUAL HARASSMENT ELIMINATION CELL/WOMEN EMPOWERMENT CELL

The Cell organized a seminar on Challenges and opportunities for Women

Entrepreneurs' with special reference to Handicrafts and Textiles.

A guest lecture on "Success and Self Protection" by Mrs. Sunitha Kishore was

conducted.

A workshop on Self Defence was organised for girl students by Defence personnel.

Aworkshop on jewelry making was conducted.

CAREER GUIDANCE & PLACEMENT CELL

Career Guidance & Placement Cell received Highest Number of offers Award from

Wipro & HP for the placements during the academic year 2013-14.

An Aptitude Test was organized in association with Merittrack Services Ltd., for

Second year degree students, Rohith Sharma of ll Year B.Com, topped with 97% and

won an Apple ipad mini.

Campus recruitment for the final year degree students was organized and the

students of BCA. BCOM, BBM, BSC & BA were placed in prestigious corporate

organizations like Infosys Technologies and BPO, Wipro Technologies, HP, Northern

Trust, IBM, CONCENTRIX, Tech been placed in this year. Mahindra, SAP, TE

Connectivity, E-litmus, ICICI Prudential, etc. More than 175 students have been

placed in this year.

ROTARACT CLUB

Rotaract Club of Surana College is sponsored by its parent club, Rotary Club of

Indiranagar. This is the and year of Rotaract in Surana headed by President

Rotaractor Gulam Zaveri. Sri D.N.V Sandeepan Smt. Sharmila Mehta are the faculty

coordinators.

The year's activities began with the Installation Ceremony where the President,

Secretaries, Board Members and other members were officially inducted in the

presence of Rotarian Col. Ry Subramaniam, Rotarian Sivasankaran and Rotarian

Sanjay Koppikar & Rotaractor DRR Adeshwar Mehta from Rotary Club of Indiranagar.

A short play on the theme "Eradicate poverty, unemployment" was enacted in the

college. The club co-hosted Transform-4 workshop in collaboration with the host

club RC-Kormangala. The workshop included Effective communication skills, Decision

making strategies and other skills.

"CAMPAMENTO" was for PG & UG rotractors of RCSC and YOUNG INDIA members.

There was active participation in the 5 km marathon run organised by SIMB "LIFE

DART 5K RUN" A Book Bank project was started in the college to collect textbooks

for the financially backward students.

The club members participated in the annual district conference "SAMYOG".

OUT STANDING ACHIEVEMENTS OF 2015

Sujay Shanbagh, a prodigious Bharatanatyam Dancer received the Balashree award

for excellence in Performing Arts.

Govindh Singh P was awarded the "Best NSS Volunteer" for the year 2013-14 by the

Governor in recognition of meritorious services rendered in the field of NSS.

Sowmya S secured 92.5% in Commerce to get a Gold Medal.

Tejas, Suraj and Sowmya of final vear have scored 100 marks in Income Tax.

Divya of I-SEM has secured full Marks in FA and MTBD and Adarsh Sin MTBD.

Karnataka State Eligibity for Lectureship and Assistant Professorship.

BOOKS PUBLISHED:

Prof. Muralidhar V. Prof Shylaja N & Prof. Suma CV have authored several

Management related Text Books for Bangalore University.

Prof. Anand Tanvashi from the department of Computer Science has authored a text

book titled E Business'on Computer Science for Bangalore University.

Prof. Mini Abraham, Prof. Mahalakshmi & Prof. Keerthi published Papers &

Presented in National and International level Seminars & conferences.

GENERAL ACHIEVEMENTS

Students from across the streams presented papers in different colleges of

Bangalore, Manipal Institute of Humanities & Philosophy, and participated in

seminars & workshops organized by the University.

Our students won individual and team events in intercollegiate management &

cultural fests including overall championship trophies in colleges such as Vijaya

College, Cambridge College and Govt. First Grade College.

Industry Visits, Field Visits and Study Tours were organised for students of

Commerce, Management, Sciences, Journalism, Psychology, History and Tourism to

industries and companies such as BWSSB, Bangalore Dairy, Lalbagh Botanical

Gardens, Kerala, GKVK, Cadabams Rehabilitation Center etc. Personality

Development Workshop by KWEC was held for all first year students.

Faculty Development Programmes were conducted by Surana College and Quality

Management Systems Internal Auditor Training Course based on ISO 9001:2008

standard certification was conducted by BSCIC.

Faculty Members from across the streams have participated in seminars and

conferences organized Bangalore and elsewhere.
