About us

Founder ’s No te

Time indeed does not wait for anyone and another interesting year has gone by silently. The journey towards nation building started in the year 2008, 5 years may not seem long, but for us at Yuva it has been a time for reassessing not just our selves but also the world around us.

The year 2013-14 has been a year of strength and growth as we move forward in our mission. The year provided us a mixed bag of joys and trails. It renewed our belief that committed workers with the necessary competence can bring about tremendous impacts when a conducive atmosphere is created. We knew we had to start by first transforming within – each of us who chose to become a part of Yuva.

Swami Vivekananda speaks of three H’s that are essential for meaningful service to be performed - the Heart to feel, the Head to think and the Hands to do - three areas where we have had satisfying progress during the year. We continued to build the Hearts that would feel for the poor, the deprived and the needy. Regular communications with the volunteers, community, donors, well-wishers and other stakeholders helped us to strengthen the bonds that hold us all together. Even as the Heart aspires, the Head has to think - think about how we can build the competence, linkages and resources to realize the aspirations; to plan, manage and supervise the activities that are rolled out The year also saw us strengthen the Hands that Work. The volunteer trainings and youth empowerment programs added to the work efficiency.

Even as I look into the reports, statistics and narratives that try to capture the work that our volunteers/our teams have done, I feel thankful to the immense treasure house of experience and learning that the year has bestowed on us. The activities detailed in this Annual Report paint the pictures of such change with words, numbers and images. At the core, however, we believe that the main fuel for such change to be sustained and further refined is the band of volunteers/ workers ready for the travails of thankless hard work.

We were able to reach out to many youth in colleges and workplaces, and empower them to think about the community. This year over ___ volunteers worked with almost ____ children in ____ centers in Karnataka, India. We are indebted to the trust that you and the community we serve have reposed in us.

With this we would like to present the Annual Report 2012-13.

Mr. Kiran Sagar,

Founder, Yuva Bengaluru

Yuva Global Foundation is a volunteer driven organisation. Our volunteers educate, mentor and train children at various Government Schools, orphanages in Bangalore to give them a better future, which will benefit them as well as our country.

The learning experience is mutual – our volunteers gain perspective and the experience to mould themselves into tomorrow's leaders. At Yuva, we believe that our children and volunteers are the latent potential that India needs for a bright and prosperous future.

Our volunteers come from various walks of life such as students, IT professionals, doctors, lawyers, housewives etc. with the common passion to contribute towards the development of our country.

All Yuva volunteers are young at heart, who are between the age group 14– 60years and most of them contribute at least two hours every week.

Vo l u n t e e r s R e c o g n i t i o n 2 0 1 3 - 1 4

Volunteers are not paid, not because they are worthless, but they are priceless. Every year, on 12th January, the National Youth Day of India, Yuva recognizes the change makers who have contributed exceptionally in the projects.

"The journey of 2.5years with Yuva has made my life more meaningful. I would like to thank the whole bunch of Volunteers without whose support and cooperation I would not be able to stand for my words and do my bit to the children. I feel proud to be associated with the organisation working children. I started my little selfless service without any expectations and the organisation has given me a platform to learn, lead and act. I would also like to acknowledge the support of my family in contributing towards the society”.

Siddhling M Konin, Group Lead, General Motors.

Core Project - Education

Quality education and a good future are still a dream for many of India’s 270 million government school students. An alarming percentage, even in higher grades, cannot read or write in their mother tongue, let alone English. Over half cannot perform even addition or subtraction, and many suffer from anemia. However, with the necessary support, we could nurture another Swami Vivekananda, Mother Teresa or Mahatma Gandhi.

Yuva’s education project supplements the government efforts, bridging critical gaps in delivering quality education. Through teacher training, spoken English, Life skills, computer training yoga, sports, extracurricular activities and nutrition supplements, Yuva endows 2,000 students in 5 Governments schools every year with the skills and educational materials to create a bright future.

For the academic year 2013-14, the Yuva schools leveraged their experience, the tools developed and facilities created to intervene in Government Schools. These interventions aimed to enhance the quality of education and result in all the children benefiting from a meaningful education.

A majority of India’s rural population lacks sufficient awareness about general health, diseases, treatment and symptoms. This absence of knowledge has caused a great deal of suffering and has drastically curtailed the quality of life for most rural people. The camp consisted of both one-to-one and group awareness programs with workshops and short films shown on health, hygiene, nutrition, and the importance of a balanced diet. General check-ups and treatment for common ailments were also conducted free of cost. Banners on health awareness were displayed.

For the academic year 2013-14, Yuva Global Foundation conducted health camps at 12 schools and one village in Karnataka. These camps aimed to identify the common ailments and provided free treatment and medicines.

Project – Lead India

India is going to be young with 29 years as working Indian average age by the year 2020 and our students are going to get global opportunities. India faces a historic opportunity and will be home to 700 million people of working age by 2020, a demographic situation that if leveraged properly can transform the country into the next economic superpower. It is very essential to ignite global skills with Indian values to make India a global leader.

In today's fast paced advanced world, our children are ever in the pursuit of becoming super achievers. Our children cannot be complete by merely achieving academic orientation. They have to become savvy with their personalities, attitudes, values and skills.

To contribute significantly towards the development of the country, the Lead India training programmes focuses on imbibing human values and global skills to the youth of today.

For the academic year 2013-14, Yuva Global Foundation conducted the training programmes in various schools and colleges.

If you are taking an exam, the success very much lies in your own hands. Unless one goes by fate, the performance solely relies on an individual’s personal efforts. But this is not the case with visually impaired students or any other disabled student who also take various exams on par with their able-bodied peers. Their success and performance in a test is literally determined in the hands of a scribe who writes on behalf of a blind student as they dictate answers.

The 'Camp with the Champ' initiative by ESPN Cricinfo and Idea had former India captain Rahul Dravid on Sept. 11 imparting cricketing lessons to a group of 25 underprivileged children from three NGOs. 11 Children from Yuva School participated in the program. Mr. Dravid enthralled the kids with anecdotes from his cricketing days and life lessons learnt along the way. Under this initiative, an original series of short educational videos involving Dravid was created to provide cricket lovers with insight and instruction about learning the fundamentals of the game.

“Meeting a great legendary cricketer like Rahul Dravid will be a dream for most of us and I had that wonderful moment. Representing YUVA in "Camp with the Champ" was the most prideful thing where I had the opportunity to translate Mr. Dravid’ s speech to the children from different states. Children were so enthusiastic and they participated in the event actively. I would be always thankful to YUVA for giving me this opportunity” said Ashok B Yadav.

L a u n c h o f G o G i r l s “Educate a man, you educate one person, educate a woman, you educate a complete family.” Yuva Global Foundation launched its new initiative to support “Girl Children”. The initiative aims at providing every underprivileged girl child in India get access to quality school education, can complete class X, regardless of whatever trials her family may face and blossom into a socially responsible, independent and mature adult. The initiative was launched by Cine

Actor Yash on his Birthday with Yuva children.

Internship is the firsthand experience in real work when one is studying and the first step towards career. Some institution might have compulsory internship and credits. Even if it does not, it is good that one does an internship and gets a hang of the work in their field of choice. Yuva provides flexibility in the areas which they would like to work in. This allows the interns to develop their skills as well as work on projects which they are passionate about. Yuva recruited 36 Interns in the last year.

Akshitha Bagrecha, first year BBM student from CMS Jain College said, “I experienced being a kid again, a sister and remembered my nursery days. One should make time and interact with these children to learn how to be happy and contented in life. They value what they have and their innocence in life is what touched my heart. I feel happy and proud working for these kids.
