RBI Bhopal - Town Hall meeting for MSME sector at Maheshwar on December 11, 2013
A Town Hall meeting with Micro, Small and Medium entrepreneurs was organized by Reserve
Bank of India, Bhopal at Maheshwar on December 11, 2013. Maheshwar, a small town on the
banks of river Narmada and well known for its ‘Maheswari’ sarees was chosen for the Town
Hall meeting as it has a sizeable number of micro entrepreneurs especially the weaver
community and is relatively under-banked. The market intelligence collected from the town
revealed that majority of the weavers is relying on financial assistance from non-formal sources
and micro finance institutions.
The weavers were thus suffering from non-availability of purchasing power for the raw
material, non awareness of product diversification / innovation, no access to modern
