A day in the life of OneWorld Community Health Centers is purposeful and hope filled. Every single day we are meeting the escalating health needs in our community by providing primary and preventative health

services to the people who are the most vulnerable and underserved. Every day, 400 people come to the health center and 260 caring OneWorld employees work hard to care for them. Because of OneWorld, fewer babies die, emergency room lines are shorter and people are living longer, healthier lives.

Our growth and outreach this past year allows us to touch more lives and continue our mission of providing culturally respectful, quality health care with special attention to the underserved. Thanks to our generous partners and the Omaha community, we are now caring for more people than ever before. In 2012, 24,673 patients from all parts of the metro called OneWorld their health care home, an increase of 7.5% over last year.

Our Livestock Exchange Campus is now home to our state of the art Women’s Clinic, with 27 exam rooms, an education center and dedicated women’s and pre-natal care. A Baby Boutique provides much needed new baby items for our patients, our new Quick Sick urgent care has expanded hours, nine exam rooms as well as rooms for patient education. And our administrative team has a new home, making room for the WIC Clinic to move into the Livestock Building and join the rest of our services under one roof.

We also opened a clinic in West Omaha, which has been busy since opening day. The need for professional and affordable medical care is clearly evident all over the city. With all this expansion, we are expecting to see an additional 12,000 patients and plan on hiring 125 new staff members in the coming years. We are partnering with Community Alliance to bring quality health care to their clients, and have opened a new School Based Health Center at Bryan High School. Our partnerships don’t end there. The Caremobile mobile dental clinic partnership with Ronald McDonald House continues to bring quality dental care to the children who need it most.

In 2012 we opened the first bi-lingual Learning Community Center, a parent literacy center in South Omaha through a partnership with the Learning Community. The center includes one to one English as a second language, training for parents of school aged children, parenting education, computer and life skill building classes, and home visits. The program has grown tremendously in its first seven months and is adding more classes to meet demand.

We are also preparing for the changes that are associated with the Affordable Care Act through staff training and public education. As health care evolves, we will be positioned to take the lead in the community to guide patients through the process.

But still today, 80,000 people in Douglas County live without health insurance. Many live in neighborhoods plagued with violence and in homes that are less than desirable. They lack the support and resources to lead healthy, happy lives.

We have a vision for the future in which OneWorld is the model for integrated health care for all people in our community. To strengthen and support every individual, one day at a time.

OneWorld has a rich forty-three year history beginning as a volunteer grassroots clinic, growing and expanding services every year. In 2012, the health center celebrated a decade as a federally qualified and Joint

Commission accredited health center. OneWorld’s Board of Directors is visionary, rooted in mission, with a patient majority, ensuring the health center is responsive to the most pressing local needs.

Community Health Centers focus on the basic health care needs of their communities. Health Centers maintain an open-door policy, providing treatment according to an individual’s income and regardless of insurance coverage. There are over 1,200 Community Health Centers across 50 states and all U.S. Territories providing vital primary care to over 22 million Americans with limited financial resources.

Care is holistic and provided in partnership with patients and the community. As “health care homes,” health centers offer medical, dental, behavioral health, pharmacy and other services. Health Centers accept most insurance plans, including Medicare, Medicaid and private insurance. For patients with limited incomes and who do not have health insurance, a sliding fee scale is offered, based on family size and income.Artwork from the Women’s Clinic

Last year, OneWorld Community Health Centers cared for nearly

25,000 patients. This is one of their stories.

Cynthia came to Omaha with her husband from Indonesia three years ago. She was pregnant with their first child. With no job, no insurance, and nowhere to turn, she found OneWorld Community Health Centers. OneWorld staff and providers helped her every step of the way.

“I love the midwives - they treat me like a friend. I was scared because I arrived here without any family or friends, and I was pregnant for the first time. I am so happy I found OneWorld!”

In 2012, we provided prenatal care to more than 1,200 women, with

84% receiving care in their first trimester.PR

Meet RaskaA boisterous two-year old with a great smile and a great story. Named for Nebraska, his parents came to OneWorld before he was born to seek care and advice from medical experts. Now, when they walk in, they are greeted with hugs and smiles from the staff. They are family.
