ANNUAL REPORT: 2011-12ThelibrarycompletedfiveyearsofexistenceinDecember2011.Duringthisshort

periodithasmadesignificantprogressandhascometoberecognisedasanimportant

institutionservingthereadingpublicofDehradun.Thisisevidentfromthesteadystream

ofreaderswhovisitthelibraryeverydayanduseitstworeadingrooms.Atanytimeof

thedayboththesereadingrooms–theoutsideonefornewspapersandmagazines

andopentothepublic,andtheinsideoneforlibrarybooksandjournalsopentolibrary

members–aregenerallyfull.Wearenowseverelyconstrainedforspace,whichis

hamperingourexpansionplansandadverselyimpactingourabilitytoprovidemoreand

betterservicestoourusers.Onnumerousoccasionswehavehadtosqueezeinextra

chairstoaccommodatethegrowingnumberofreaders.

Amosthearteningsightisthelargenumberofyoungpeople–bothboysandgirls–

whoregularlyvisitthelibrarytousethereadingroomsandborrowbooks.Mostofthem

areeitherpreparingforsomecompetitiveexaminationorareresearchscholars.Wefelt

extremelysatisfiedandhappywhenwecametoknowthat38youngpeopleclaimed

thattheyhadqualifiedinvariouscompetitiveexaminationsandsecuredajobafterusing

thelibrary.OneofthemhadevenqualifiedfortheCentralServices.

LIBRARYThelibrarycontinuedtogrowduringtheyear,bothintermsofthenumberofbooks,

numberofmembersandthefrequencyofbook-borrowingbythemembers.Month-wise

dataontotalbooks,membershipandbooksborrowedisshowninthefollowingtables

andgraphics.

Attheendoftheyearthelibraryhadatotalcollectionof15,400booksascomparedto

13,663attheendoflastyear.Thusatotalof1,737bookswereaddedduringtheyear.
