A Note from the President and CEO
Marc Jacobs, Chief Executive Officer and Reva Tankle, Board President
Every day life remains dangerously challenging for so many in our community.
Together, with our Board of Directors, staff, generous donors, Combined Jewish Philanthropies, the United Way of Tri-County and other partners, JFS has expanded services for people in our community who deeply need our assistance, with a special focus on frail elders and vulnerable children.
Together with you, JFS is providing everything necessary for people to live their lives with dignity and purpose.
JFS is moving forward with a next generation of services that provide real solutions. We are launching a new initiative demonstrating the best practices in Healthy Aging. We have expanded our engagement and connection to young families and our adoptive families.
The richness of JFS was beautifully captured by newspaper reporter Elizabeth Eidlitz who recently wrote:
“Where can you find a caregiver for a frail elder or disabled adult, adopt a child, celebrate your Healthy Partners walk to Hawaii with a luau, get free help with citizenship paperwork or job coaching as a newly arrived refugee, meet with a volunteer mentor, or take a bilingual yoga class in Russian and English? Thousands annually discover all of these offerings and many more in one place: Jewish Family Service of Metrowest (JFS).”

Seas the Dream 2010
Strengthening Lives, BUILDING COMMUNITY
This year Seas the Dream honored three dedicated community builders: Kathryn Anbinder, Lou Kates and Cynthia Shulman, all of whom have had a measurable and meaningful impact in Metrowest.
The highlight of the evening’s program was a short film telling Arlene’s story. Arlene represents the many people JFS helps in the community. A single mother of twin 8 year-old boys, Arlene did not know where to turn when she was laid off from her job as general counsel to a college.
"I did not know how I was going to keep us going", she said.
That is when JFS stepped in, helping with the bills and linking Arlene and her children up with programs and support.
"Now, there is no part of my life that has not been impacted by JFS. It's good to know there is a place I can go back to and get help when our backs are up against the wall."

JFS exists to strengthen lives and build community throughout Metrowest and Greater Boston.
A brief look at our solutions...
Keeping Elders Safe & Healthy. Providing in-home care to seniors to keep them safe at home.
Strengthening Children & Families. Supplying fresh fruits and vegetables to underprivileged families who are overwhelmed with food costs.
Making Ends Meet. Providing face-to-face support and monetary assistance to those affected by our battered economy.
Building Community. Pairing preteens with Jewish seniors to help them understand aging, community and charity.

Just a sample of our many accomplishments this year...
Keeping Elders Safe & Healthy. Over 300 adults and elders who were able to stay in their homes because of home care, geriatric care and other programs provided by JFS.
Strengthening Children & Families. JFS handed out 450 bags of fresh produce to over 50 families at Framingham’s Woodrow Wilson School in the 2009-2010 school year.
Making Ends Meet. JFS, through Family Assistance Network, responded to over 1200 individuals (300 families) by providing face to face support and services.
Building Community. JFS connected over 55 pre-bar and bat mitzvah youth with over 90 Jewish seniors.
