1SAPNA Annual Report 2009-10
ForewardGreetings from SAPNA.
‘SAPNA’ was registered in New Delhi under the Societies Registration Act on October 21, 2004, by a group of professionals, who shared a common dream and who came together to work on a people-centric model of development in areas like public health, education, gender, community development and social welfare.
Inspired by Gandhian ideals of social change, what essentially guides the group is the Gandhian talisman: “Whenever you are in doubt, or when the self becomes too much with you, apply the following test. Recall the face of the poorest and the weakest man [woman] whom you may have seen, and ask yourself, if the step you contemplate is going to be any use to him [her]. Will he [she] gain anything by it? Will it restore him [her] to a control over his [her] own life and destiny? In other words, will it lead to Swaraj [freedom] for the hungry and starving millions? Then you will find your doubts and yourself melt away”.
For its health support project in New Delhi, SAPNA has been able to develop a ‘bottoms up’, patient-centric model to ensure that poor and indigent patients coming from far-flung areas of the country are provided all forms of support and care. In New Delhi, the organisation’s outreach extends to patients accessing services at the Safdarjung Hospital and the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, and who are staying in dharamshalas. SAPNA also continues with the onerous task of taking care of unknown patients admitted to the AIIMS Trauma Centre.
Sick and abandoned patients are sheltered at SAPNA’s Old Age Home at Vijay Mandir in Alwar, Rajasthan. At Vijay Mandir, the organisation also runs a Public Healthcare Centre and is partnering with Venu Eye Institute & Research Centre, New Delhi, for conducting monthly eye camps for poor rural folk. SAPNA’s other initiatives at Vijay Mandir include an Adolescent Literacy Centre and a Computer Literacy Centre. A Community Library supports these endeavours. It also runs the Mahila Salah Evam Suraksha Kendra, a redressal and counselling centre for women located at Moti Dungri in Alwar, in partnership with the Rajasthan Police.
From the very beginning , we at SAPNA believe that development has to be holistic if we wish to break the vicious cycle of poverty and to bring real fruits to the most needy. Public health, education, women empowerment and community development continue to be the prime areas of our work. We wish to bring a substantial change on the ground by focusing our energies in these sectors as well as building our understanding about related issues. We at SAPNA firmly believe that a conducive and productive environment cannot be achieved unless all these parameters of the development equation are suitably answered.
Thanking You,
SUDHIR PRATAP SINGHGENERAL SECRETARY,SAPNA

1. WHAT WE BELIEVE IN?
ii. Priority AreaFrom very beginning , we at SAPNA believe that development has to be holistic, bringing real benefits to the most needy. Public health, education, women empowerment, community development and social welfare continue to be the prime areas of our work. We wish to bring a substantial change on the ground by focusing our energies in these sectors as well as building our understanding about related issues. All aspects of the development equation have to be addressed so that we achieve a conducive and productive environment.
Spatially, SAPNA has support centres in New Delhi and in Alwar (Rajasthan).
From the very inception of SAPNA, it has been our constant endeavour to be completely committed to our objectives and transparent in our work. We believe that an organisation or for that matter an individual, whose fundamentals are based on virtues of honesty, ownership towards the society we live in and regard to human dignity, is bound to grow in the right direction. And the last six years are a living testimony of how we have lived this philosophy.
The basic idea behind SAPNA was to help those who are the most vulnerable (poor, children, women, old and sick) and who are in dire need of help. After initial extensive debates, the founding members organised themselves, constituting SAPNA, to work towards this objective and outlined the organisation’s aims and objectives. SAPNA was registered under the Societies Registration Act (XXI) of 1860 on October 21, 2004.
i. MissionTo work/act as an ‘agent of change’ to help the poorest of the poor access and actualise their rights as enshrined in the Constitution of India.
iii. Aims & ObjectivesEmpower the poor and the marginalised;
Provide shelter to the sick and abandoned;
Address health issues by providing poor patients’ support and care;
Develop community health programmes and services;
Support literacy centres and increase e-learning;
Work towards gender equity and empowerment of women;
Help the poor access information and resources
Work in the area of environmental protection and conservation.

3. WHAT WE ARE PART OF?
SAPNA is a non-profit organisation, with the mission to work for the poor by nurturing and supporting projects in the area of public health, education, women empowerment, community development and social welfare. As a social service organisation, our mission at SAPNA aims to provide quality services to the needy and the under-privileged enabling them to live with dignity.
SAPNA is the result of the coming together of a group of professionals committed to Gandhian ideals. It is a young organisation that has made a beginning but knows that it has a long way to go. It’s model of change is based on ‘Antodaya’ and the necessity of working in a decentralised way to address the multiple dimensions of poverty and development. As an organisation, it is seeking to scale up and replicate its model by partnering with likeminded organisations working for change.
4. WHAT WE ARE WORKING FOR?
A. PUBLIC HEALTHPoor and needy patients....
Despite several growth-orientated policies adopted by the government, the widening economic, regional and gender disparities are posing challenges to the country ’s health sector. About 75 per cent of health infrastructure, medical manpower and other resources are concentrated in urban areas where only 27 per cent of the population lives. Contagious, infectious and waterborne diseases, such as diarrhoea, amoebiasis, typhoid, infectious hepatitis, worm infestations, measles, malaria, tuberculosis, whooping cough, respiratory infections, pneumonia and reproductive tract infections dominate the morbidity pattern, especially in rural areas. Also, non-communicable diseases, such
as cancer, blindness, mental illness, hypertension, diabetes, HIV/AIDS, accidents and injuries, are on the rise. The health status of most Indians, especially the rural population, remains a cause for grave concern. This is reflected in their life expectancy (65 years), infant mortality rate (55/1,000 live births) and maternal mortality rates (438/100,000 live births). While considerable progress has been made, more needs to be done. To improve the prevailing situation, the problem of rural health is to be addressed both at macro (national and state) and micro (district and regional) levels.
I. SAFDARJUNG HOSPITAL DHARAMSHALA (SHD)
Strengthening support for poor patients seeking treatment at Safdarjung Hospital.....
In its own modest way, SAPNA, along with other like-minded individuals, extends support to the poor and indigent patients who come from far-flung areas of the country seeking treatment at Safdarjung Hospital, New Delhi, and stay in the Safdarjung Hospital Dharamshala. We at SAPNA have endeavoured to break away from a narrow interpretation of clinical healthcare to embrace a comprehensive spectrum of needs relevant to people living in conditions of endemic poverty and economic insecurity. A major part of SAPNA’s work centres on patients accessing treatment at the Safdarjung Hospital, AIIMS, and the Trauma Centre of AIIMS, and is guided by the recognition that a patient’s treatment cannot only be seen as a bio-medical issue. The overarching fact that the cost of a single hospitalisation can wipe out the assets of a poor family is well known.
5SAPNA Annual Report 2009-10
Thus, a team of our social workers provides informational support and facilitation to patients who do not know how to access the available services, right from the point of registration to the point of interface with the consultant at the required super-specialty. Medicines, not available in the hospital and nutrition (milk, fruit, lunch, dinner, dry rations, etc.) are provided free of cost to the patients. SAPNA bears the cost of operations of very poor patients and provides supportive orthopaedic aids like crutches, wheelchairs, collars, etc. It also addresses the counselling as well as devotional needs of patients and attendants. In addition, clothing , bed sheets and blankets are provided on demand. Our social workers also take care of the housekeeping functions in the Dharamshala.

On an average, SAPNA takes care of 70 patients every month as also their accompanying attendants and at times children. The expenditure on milk, fruit and lunch is sponsored by Sh. Nidesh Gupta. Medicines are procured from Helpline Pharmacy (18/4 Main Market, Yusuf Sarai, New Delhi) and Nagpal Medicos (98, Ring Road Market, Sarojini Nagar, New Delhi-110023). SAPNA is indebted to Sh. Surekha (Helpline Pharmacy) for providing medicines at a much discounted price. SAPNA also deeply acknowledges the unflinching support of Ms. L. Agnihotri, Ms. Tara Kochar (Dhukh Bhanjan Trust), Ms. Madhu Bhagat, Ms. Lily Coomar, Ms. Kanta Saluja, Sh. Satish Chawla and Sh. Udai Anand, who contribute to our efforts in a very big way. Shri L.R. Aggarwal of Krishi Rasayan Exports pays for medicines worth Rs. 25,000 every month procured from Helpline Pharmacy for the poor patients. SAPNA is thankful for this support.
II. RAJGARHEA VISHRAM SADAN (RVS)
SAPNA supports poor patients staying in the Rajgarhea Vishram Sadan - a dharamshala of AIIMS - by providing milk and weekly rations. Half-a-litre of milk is distributed to all patients (around 75-80) every morning . This expenditure is sponsored by Sh. Nidesh Gupta. Rations containing flour, dal, rice, tea, sugar, etc., costing Rs 5,000, are distributed every Sunday of the month to selected BPL patients (approx. 65) by the following donors:

SUPPORT A KIDNEY PATIENT
Another initiative taken by SAPNA is to support selected BPL (below poverty line) patients suffering from kidney ailments seeking to undergo a kidney transplant surgery. A large number of BPL patients from far-flung areas of the country, especially Bihar and UP, suffering from kidney ailments come to AIIMS and stay at Rajgarhea Vishram Sadan. The treatment is frightfully expensive and has to be sustained for long periods. Ultimately, most patients, unable to bear the huge costs give up on treatment, resigning themselves to their fate. SAPNA supports such BPL patients by providing free medicines on a sustained basis, every month. SAPNA mobilised monthly funds totalling Rs 10,000 for each the following 7 BPL patients:

These patients now live a life of dignity, capable of carrying on with their day-to-day activities. Some have even taken up employment to support themselves. One such patient, Dilip Singh, has become a volunteer for SAPNA. Such patients are also provided weekly rations besides other items to meet their day-to-day needs. As treatment after any kidney transplantation is an expensive affair, we are looking for people who can come forward and join hands in this noble cause, and make this dream a reality.
III. TRAUMA CENTRE, AIIMS, NEW DELHI
The living dead.....
SAPNA completed two years at the Trauma Centre, AIIMS, on December 18, 2009, and continues with the onerous task of looking after unattended/unknown trauma patients brought in by the Police/CATS ambulances to the Centre. Everyday two-three such patients come to the Centre. Some are in a comatose state and are left for dead.
SAPNA supports such unattended/unknown trauma patients by providing care, nutrition, clothes, etc. It helps in identifying the patient and establishing contact with relatives once their identity is established. A majority of such patients are restored to their family after treatment or sent home, with SAPNA giving the fare for transport. Some are even escorted by our social workers to their homes. Quite a few homeless patients are rehabilitated by establishing linkages with other rehabilitation centres in New Delhi. Some are accommodated at the Old Age Home in Alwar. The police are kept informed about the course of action.
SAPNA’s social workers are responsible for taking care of such unknown patients on their arrival at the Trauma Centre, documentation of their history, their identification, facilitating treatment, informing relatives, and arrange to send such patients home or arranging for their rehabilitation.

BLOOD DONATION
SAPNA helps in procuring healthy blood for patients staying in the Safdarjung Hospital Dharamshala (SHD) or the Rajgarhea Vishram Sadan (RVS) through individual donors and blood donation camps. Blood transfusion is required mostly for burn patients or by those undergoing an operation. In 2009, 238 units of blood were donated to those in need of transfusions. SAPNA profusely thanks the budding engineers of IIT Delhi who generously contributed blood for the poor patients.
Volunteers of SAPNA also counselled the near and dear ones of the patients for blood donation/replacement at the Trauma Centre (TC). It’s commendable work on this front was appreciated by the hospital authorities.

IV. PUBLIC HEALTHCARE CENTRE (PHC)
Health for the rural poor...
There are around 50 villages within a 4-5 km radius of Vijay Mandir, Alwar, that have no access to proper medical facilities. A government. PHC situated nearby is almost defunct. As such, the rural masses are at the mercy of unregistered medical practitioners and quacks. Patients have to travel 10-15 km to Alwar to access proper medical aid. Women, in particular, get no specialised medical attention.
SAPNA started a Public Healthcare Centre (PHC) at Vijay Mandir, Alwar, on August 1, 2008. Such a day-care facility not only provides basic healthcare to the rural poor but also facilitates follow-ups to the monthly health camps. The guiding principle for SAPNA here is to ensure that all components of healthcare are developed in a synergistically complementary manner. The PHC is also equipped with a vehicle which provides transport for patients in case of an emergency.
This PHC, a part-time clinic (8 - 12 am) is supervised by a MBBS (MD) doctor and an experienced compounder. A basic diagnostic laboratory and an X-ray facility has also been provided here. Medicines are dispensed free at this PHC. The service of a gynaecologist is provided twice a month. Patients are also counseled about their further course of treatment at the PHC. The facility also caters to the needs of the inmates of the Old Age Home. A DOT centre was recently added to the PHC to treat tuberculosis patients.

The PHC has established itself as a full-fledged medical clinic, treating on an average around 900 patients in its OPD (out-patient department), highlighting the popularity that the centre has gained. Till date, the PHC has seen more than 16,000 patients, all of whom need not travel to Alwar anymore to access basic medical aid. Women get specialised medical attention.
In this short period of two years, the centre has done exceptionally well and created trust in the local community, encouraging them to take part with SAPNA in its other endeavours. SAPNA now plans to add a family planning and HIV/AIDs centre to the PHC, besides initiating a massive immunisation programme for the rural poor. The aim is to turn the PHC into a telemedicine centre so that the poorest of the poor can locally access the best medical facilities available globally.
SAPNA is thankful to Dr. Harshavardhana Singh for supporting this centre. SAPNA is also thankful to Shri Vishnu Surekha of Helpline Pharmacy, New Delhi, for subsidising medicines worth Rs 10,000 every month. SAPNA is also grateful to Shri Rajendra Gupta of City Hospital, Alwar, for providing complimentary medicines worth Rs 15,000 every month through Ashoka Pharma, Alwar. SAPNA thanks Dr Richa Gupta, MS, City Hospital, Alwar, for organising the Gynae camp on the 1st and 16th of every month at Vijay Mandir. SAPNA is thankful to Dr Vijay Gupta of Alwar for providing a technician to run the X-ray machine and the diagnostics centre at PHC.
V. OUTREACH HEALTH PROGRAMME (OHP)
The Most Precious Gift...
Cataract, diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma, refractive error, etc., are common ailments, which lead to vision loss if untreated. Low literacy levels, inability to afford the cost of operation and lack of access to specialised medical treatment available mostly in urban centres has resulted in rampant prevalence of blindness amongst the elderly rural poor.
SAPNA has embarked on an ambitious Outreach Health Programme (OHP), wherein it aspires to provide health cover to the poor and the needy in

During 2009-2010, 12 eye camps were organised in Alwar District, a total of3,707 patients (OPD) were examined and 361 cataract surgeries / IPDs conducted. During the camp, 920 spectacles besides medicines were dispensed free of cost.
There has been tremendous response to these eye camps. Around 30 camps have been organised and more than 1,000 patients have been operated for cataract since the start of the campaign in August 2007. The overwhelming response to these medical camps has highlighted the dire need of outreach healthcare in rural India. SAPNA, through this endeavour, has joined the National Blindness Control Programme (NBCP) and aspires to make Alwar district cataract free.
6. VENU VISION CENTRE (VVC)
Encouraged by the response to SAPNA’s outreach camps, Venu Eye Institute and Research Centre, New Delhi opened a ‘Venu Vision Centre’ at Vijay Mandir, Alwar, on February 22, 2010, to provide for preliminary eye check-ups and follow-up visits. Two vision technicians have been appointed at the centre by the hospital. Slit lamp, Retinoscope, Ophthalmoscope, Trial Set, Trial Frame, etc., have also been

B. EDUCATIONCapacity Building of Rural Youth...
SAPNA recognises that livelihood promotion through professional skills development is the only route to dealing with poverty, vulnerability and issues related to working conditions and remuneration at work.
I. COMPUTER LITERACY CENTRE (CLC)
e-learning at doorsteps...
The rural youth have little or no exposure to e-learning , leave aside the challenges of imparting to them ICT skills and giving them meaningful employment opportunities. Many of them have not seen computers and the schools in the rural areas provide no such learning . Any desire for e-learning means going to Alwar, which may be beyond their means.
Established on June 21, 2007, at Vijay Mandir, Alwar, Rajasthan, the Computer Literacy Centre (CLC) exposes e-learning to rural children and imparts ICT training to the youth. It has a well-equipped modern computer laboratory. Software like MS Office, Photoshop, Corel Draw, Tally, Html, Visual Basic, Internet, etc., are all part of the curriculum of the four-month Certification Course sponsored by SAPNA.
The centre has evoked tremendous response and has remarkably increased e-learning and usage amongst the rural children. The children are also taught English and typing skills.

II. RURAL BPO
Employment at the doorsteps....SAPNA’s drive towards expanding employment and employability of the youth of the area has borne fruit, with groups of trained boys. To provide them meaningful employment opportunities, a rural BPO was established in March 2010. SAPNA trained more than 200 rural youth with ICT skills and, who are now well-versed in data entry work. 25 rural youth, trained by SAPNA in ICT skills, were given data entry work by Punj Lloyd Ltd. and were handsomely paid over Rs. 2.5 lakh on successful completion of the project. Currently, they are employed for maintaining data for NREGA (flagship programme of the Government), RPLI, RD’s and other accounts of the Indian Post at Alwar.
Besides providing meaningful employment at their doorsteps, a sense of engagement and achievement too has gripped the rural youth of Alwar. SAPNA’s model of providing productive and remunerative employment at the doorstep has worked towards slowing migration, and all that the latter entails in terms of displacement, deplorable living conditions, low wages, unfamiliar working conditions and the vagaries of the job market.
III. ADOLESCENT LITERACY CENTRE (ALC)
SAPNA runs an Adolescent Literacy Centre at the Vijay Mandir for children of the neighbouring villages, focusing specially on grey areas like Mathematics, English and Computer Literacy. Ms. Suchi Gupta of Alwar Public School volunteers to do this task. Besides teaching English, she involves the children in various extra-curricular activities like painting , drawing and sports. Functions on occasions like Republic Day, Independence Day and Gandhi Jayanti are organised at Vijay Mandir to inculcate a sense of nation building and idealism. The children are also taken for sightseeing tours to Alwar, Jaipur and Delhi to enhance their exposure.

C. EMPOWERMENT OF SICK AND IMPOVERISHEDEnsuring health and well-being of the sick and the abandoned.....
The biological ageing process exposes individuals to greater risks from disability, chronic illness and destitution, a process exacerbated by poverty and other forms of structural inequalities. Care of the old is a complex process. Cultural patterns, prevailing attitudes and expectations – all need to be factored in while honing in on a model of appropriate care. We believe in ensuring that a person who is not fully capable of self-care can maintain the highest possible quality of life, according to his or her individual preferences, with the greatest possible degree of independence, autonomy, participation, personal fulfilment and dignity. We also believe that their first right is to reside with their own families if possible. Hence, our aim is to give them medical and supportive care till they are capable of being rehabilitated with their families. In this way, SAPNA has been instrumental in restoring several old and infirm persons to their families.
I. OLD AGE HOME (OAH)
SAPNA has been addressing the need for shelter and long-term care for the sick and genuinely destitute through its Home at Vijay Mandir, Alwar (Rajasthan) since January, 2007. It acts as a feeder for survivors at the Trauma Centre (AIIMS) and Safdarjung Hospital Dharamshala in New Delhi who are in need of recuperative care and support. A team of social workers looks after their daily needs, providing them with nourishment, clothing , housekeeping , etc. A dispensary in the same premises provides requisite medical care.

Promoting health and a general sense of well-being throughout the life span of its inmates is one of the primary thrusts of the Home. SAPNA provides a home for such under-privileged where they feel cared for and are able to live with dignity. Mange Ram, Sindhu, Pinky, Latif and Yunus are some of the lucky ones who have found a home at Vijay Mandir and are now a part of the extended family of SAPNA. Our dream is to make a model home for the old, sick and the destitute.
SAPNA is grateful to Sh. Anil Khetan for his unflinching support in running this centre.
22 SAPNA Annual Report 2009-10
D. WOMEN EMPOWERMENTWorking for gender equity and women’s rights...
Working for gender equity and women’s rights has been one of SAPNA’s major commitments. With the aim of holistically addressing the issue of violence against women, we at SAPNA realised that a fresh intervention strategy within the criminal justice system involving all concerned is needed to address this major issue.
Violence against women, both in the public and the domestic sphere, is on an increase and most women get very little or no redressal of their problems on reaching a police station. It was felt that in the absence of any specialised training to the police or civil society institutions to handle the psychological and social needs of the victims, the women seeking assistance were being further victimised. Cases of violence against women not only need multiple interventions but a shift in approach, to give such women the right to make an informed choice when subjected to violence.
I. MAHILA SALAH & SURAKSHA KENDRA (MSSK)
Since December 1, 2008, SAPNA is partnering with the local police in Alwar, Rajasthan, to run a guidance and protection centre for women under the aegis of the Mahila Thana known as the ‘Mahila Salah Evam Suraksha Kendra’. The MSSK is a holistic redressal centre for women, providing support to women facing violence in the following manner:
Assisting them to negotiate their way through the criminal justice system;
Settling disputes through alternative dispute resolution mechanisms;
Providing rehabilitation to women survivors of violence;
Providing medical aid, legal aid, psycho-social support, shelter, economic rehabilitation and any other relief required.
The concept underlying the centre is that of providing a comprehensive strategy of redressal and support to the women who come to the centre. The single window assistance can range from mediation to legal aid, to intervention within the police system and the judiciary, to economic rehabilitation, to trauma counselling , to shelter and care.
The centre functions through the services of a Coordinator, Ms. Rekha Bedi, two full-time paid social workers, Ms. Rashmi Vasishta and Ms. Sarita, and two police officers (including a Lady Constable) attached from the Mahila Police Station, Alwar. 24 SAPNA Annual Report 2009-10
E. ENVIROMENT PROTECTION AND CONSERVATIONI. VIJAY SAGAR
Vijay Sagar is a beautiful artificial lake constructed almost 100 years ago by His Highness Jai Singh, the then Maharaja of Alwar. Also known as ‘Kaduki Lake’ in revenue records, the lake is located south of Kaduki village in Umrain Tehsil of Alwar district in Rajasthan and has a catchment area of 19.90 sq. miles, with capacity of 206 MCFT. However, with the passage of time, the lake has deteriorated significantly and today there is no water in the lake 2-3 months after the monsoons .
SAPNA has embarked on an ambitious project to revive this lake in its original ambience. The objective is not only to restore the beauty of the lake but it would entail the benefits of recharging ground water, raising the water table, reviving aquatic life, forestation and ecology, and ultimately promote tourism and economy.
Awareness activities and campaigns through seminars, workshops, public meetings, padyatras, film shows, advertisements, posters and banners are envisaged. The action component will include revitalising natural channels and drains, reinforcing check dams, prevent cultivation in the lake area, civil works to increase retention potential, plantation, etc.
The collaborating/ supporting agencies have been identified as the District Administration, Irrigation Department of Rajasthan, the Central Ground Water Board, Jaipur and Delhi, and the District Forest Officer, Alwar. Shri Rajinder Singh of the Tarun Bharat Sangh, spirited citizens of Alwar, panchayats of Dehra and Todiyar, and the community at large have also been made stakeholders.
SAPNA organised a two-day workshop on December 5 and 6, 2009, at Vijay Mandir, Alwar (Rajasthan), on the revival/restoration of the Vijay Sagar. Shri Jitendra Singh, MP, the District Collector, the Secretary of Central Ground Water Board, officers from the State Irrigation Department, Shri Rajinder Singh of the Tarun Bharat Sangh, Shri Nitya Jacob from the UNDP and several prominent people of Alwar like
Vijay Sagar, Alwar
25SAPNA Annual Report 2009-10
Sh. Hari Shankar Goyal, Advocate and Sh. Suryadev Singh Barreth attended the conference. A roadmap for reviving the lake was also documented.
The planning for restoring the lake was done by the State Irrigation Department in collaboration with the local Panchayat. Three works amounting to Rs 1.25 crores were sanctioned under the flagship MGNREGA scheme by the District Collector in March 2010, which included repair and strengthening of the bund, desilting of the core area and forestation of surrounding hills.
ii. COMMUNITY WATER CENTRE (CWC)
A proposal to set up a Community Water Centre in Village Kaduki situated adjacent to Vijay Mandir in Alwar District of Rajasthan has been prepared to provide potable drinking water for a population of nearly 1,000 members (250 families), including children. A majority of the population is poor and cultivation is their main source of livelihood. Recently, a survey was conducted by MA (a non-governmental organisation) in Kaduki regarding the accessibility of potable drinking water and it was found that there was no access to potable drinking water in the village. There is a general scarcity of potable drinking water and the villagers have to be dependent on some families who have their own bore wells for domestic use. The water is also not suitable for drinking as the Total Dissolved Solids’ count is as high as 250 (the permissible limit is 100).
The Community Water Centre is a community-based water distribution system wherein ground water/surface water or supply water is treated using the reverse osmosis technology or through a filtration system to make it safe for drinking . This unique endeavour will create a better and healthy environment for the poor, resulting in improved health and bring down their medical expenses. The total project cost is Rs 7 lakh and it is planned to implement this project in 2010-2011.
F. SPORTSi. VIJAY MANDIR CRICKET TEAM (VMCT)
A Vijay Mandir cricket team was formed in November 2009 to encourage sports among the rural youth. Shri Roop Singh Meena has been appointed as coach to train the children. The land outside Vijay Mandir is being used for playing and practice. Shri Chetan Kumar was appointed as the Captain of the team.
Shri Amrit Mathur, CEO Delhi Daredevils is the chief patron of this project and Shri Pawan Goyal of Alwar is giving all-round support. The team has already taken part in several district-level tournaments and is showing promising results.
