CLAYTON G. CHAMBLISSHeadmaster

Father of Noland ‘02 and Callis ‘08

His tenure at Sayre has been marked by imagination and vision. He values Sayre’s legacy while understanding the importance of endowing Sayre’s future.

And he charges forward cleverly blending all the elements that matter in the Sayre community: wisdom, integrity, respect, compassion.

BECKY AND GREG GOODMANParents of Hutton ‘04, Hannah ‘05, Mary Jane ‘09, and Bo ‘11

The expanse of their stewardship embraces most aspects of school life: support of mission, leadership, teamwork, fundraising, diversity, good citizenship, and scholarship.

The Goodmans have served us friendship, unassuming, deep, and loyal.

BOBBIE PARSONSAssistant Head of School, Director of Admission

Mother of Margaret ‘84 and Jay ‘86; Grandmother of Alice ‘15 and Matthew ‘18

In the course of over thirty crowded years, she has served as teacher, Lower School Director, Middle School Director, Admission Director, and Assistant Head of School - when the doors of Sayre School open, she

is there. Bobbie is indeed wise counsel with a little wit and mischief thrown into the mix. With the aid of Sayre art teachers, students serve us visual charm throughout the year as seen in background art on Honor Roll pages.

She feels strongly that she is not the “face” of diversity efforts on our campus; however, maybe she will own up to the energy and passion she brings to the movement. With her direction we have come to search deep within ourselves as individuals and as a culture.

SERVING SAYRE WITH DISTINCTION

GAY HAGGIN VANMETER ‘81with Tom, Chenault ‘12, and Headley ‘12

For this second generation Sayre legatee it would have been enough to follow in the family footsteps and enroll her children. It would have been enough to carry on the

family tradition of service and generosity. It would have been enough to serve as Spectacular Chair once, let alone four times. It would have been enough to be there

for us with kindness and compassion. Any of it would have been enough.

Stephanie Nahra Johnson ‘91, Elizabeth Carey Nahra, Tyler ‘93,Graham and Grady Johnson, and Jake and Nick Nahra

That’s the thing about a large family. There is always someone to turn to for support. In turn, the Nahras have supported, shaped, influenced, advised, taught, and set examples as Board members,

athletic devotees, alumni leaders, educators, and mentors. No fanfare here; just solid commitment.

GINGER SAULSPersonal Learning Program Director

Mother of Andy ‘02 and Mattie ‘05

For Ginger reading is an inalienable right. All children are entitled to experience the pleasure of reading - to learn, to escape, to find joy, for discovery, and for solace.

And so this reading camp volunteer for the Episcopal Diocese of Lexington works tirelessly for the children, here in the Commonwealth and more recently in South Africa.

THE DAVID A. SAYRE LEGACYAfter decades of informally soliciting and receiving planned gifts to the school, such as a bequest from a Last Will or a Trust, Sayre School has formally launched its Planned Giving Program, The David A. Sayre Legacy.

Legacy in legal terminology is a gift of money or property left by the donor’s Last Will & Testament. In more common usage, legacy is something that is handed down or remains from a previous generation or time—in this instance referring to David A. Sayre’s vision of an “education of the widest range and highest order.”

A planned gift allows a donor to make a final gift to Sayre School, often of a more generous size than would have been possible during one’s lifetime. Such

gifts are perhaps the most meaningful endorsements an individual can make of the values espoused and benefits provided by Sayre School.

The following donors have documented a planned gift and joined The David A. Sayre Legacy:

In 1854, David A. Sayre established Sayre

School to provide an “education of the widest

range and highest order.” Today, our school

community upholds that mission by fostering an

enthusiasm for learning, embracing the unique

contributions of its members, cultivating personal

integrity, and equipping students for further

education and fruitful lives.
