Mixed Volleyball Tournament Rules

The goal for this tournament is to have fun while raising money for Variety Village. Here are some rules and guidelines to help us achieve this goal.

• Teams must have a minimum of 6 players (2 females) playing at all times (opposing team may waive this requirement and count the match). The maximum number of participants per team is 8 people.

• No jump serving.

• No blocking serves.

• Net serve is in play.

• Serves that hit the net and go over are in play.

• Players cannot screen on a serve. If the opposing team asks a player to move aside so that they can see the server the opponents must comply.

• If the ball hits the antenna or the net outside the antenna it is out of play.

• The ball must be played across the net between the antenna.

• Substitutions are allowed to enter before or after the serving position.

• Overhand volleying is allowed on serve receive.

• A block is not considered a contact.

• Team must call their own violations (net, lifts, doubles).

• 3 front row players may block from front row.

• Rotation must be maintained on serve + serve receive.

• Ball cannot be on the opponent’s side of the net (Except on blocks).

• Ball must hit line to be in.

• This tournament is for fun and all teams should play with that in mind and maintain a high level of sportsmanship.

• Only the 2 team captains can discuss any disputed calls.

• Please re-serve if unable to resolve quickly.

Scoring

The team that wins the most sets in an allotted time wins a match.

A set is won by the team that first scores 25 points with a minimum lead of two points (except the deciding third or fifth game). In the case of a 24-24 tie, play is continued until a two-point lead is achieved. In predetermined three-set matches, when all three sets count as a win or loss, the third set is not considered a deciding set and will be played to 25 points.

If a team fails to serve properly, return the ball or commits any other fault, the opponent wins the rally and scores a point. When the serving team wins a rally, it scores a point and continues to serve. If the receiving team wins the rally, it scores a point and gains the right to serve.

A served ball touching the net and continuing over the net shall remain in play, and the receiving team has Three plays to return the ball to the opponents.

FIVB International Scoring System (based on matches won, sets won and point ratio) will be to used to handle all ties during competition.
