The 2012-2013 Lyceum Series features appearances by PEABODY TRIO HESPÈRION XXI 2012-2013 Distinguished Artist Series Baylor University Jazz Ensemble presents The Sixth-Annual Swing Concert Alex Parker leads his talented 24-member group in a nostalgic evening of big band music by Glenn Miller, Benny Goodman, Tommy and Jimmy Dorsey, Woody Herman, Duke Ellington, Count Basie, and many others. This exciting concert is a re-creation of what folks in the 1940s heard on radios, in nightclubs, on 78-rpm records, and from the hotel ballrooms of their day. Saturday, September 8, at 7:30 p.m. Jones Concert Hall For tickets, come to the School of Music box office in the Glennis McCrary Music Building, call (254) 710-3571, or visit www.baylor.edu/music. The President’s Concert presents Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony Conductor-in-Residence Stephen Heyde leads the Baylor Symphony Orchestra, A Cappella Choir, Concert Choir, and Bella Voce in a performance of Ludwig van Beethoven’s final symphonic work. The monumental “Choral” Symphony dates from 1824 and remains to this day the apotheosis of symphonic composition. Its last movement, scored for large choir and orchestra, is set to the text of Friedrich Schiller’s Ode to Joy. A live performance of Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony is an unforgettable experience.
