• The Third annual Ohio State School for the Blind (OSSB) Student Art Show was on display at the State Library until May 23, 2019. The art show featured seventeen mixed-media, symbolic self-portraits by the students in OSSB art teacher Rachelle Smith’s class. library.ohio.gov/using-the-library/services-for-the-blind/ossb-art-show-2019/

• The History of the Ohio State School for the Blind is a featured display in the library. Images and reports on display highlight the profound history of education and personal development for blind students in Ohio. As the official Ohio government documents depository, the State Library houses the largest collection of Ohio’s state publications in the United States. This collection includes reports and publications chronicling the early endeavors by Ohio’s governors and legislators, appointed trustees, and school staff and administrators to support the blind education movement in the early 19th century.

• Exhibits for 2019 will highlight two significant milestones: 1) NASA and the 50th anniversary of Apollo 11 mission moon landing, and 2) Centennial of Ohio voting for ratification of the 19th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution which guarantees the right to vote for all American women. Note: The 19th Amendment required approval by three-quarters of states and was certified for ratification into the Constitution in 1920.

• 2019 statewide incentives are available from the Ohio State Fair ($4 off gate admission for any SLP

participant ages 5-18) and the Armstrong Air and Space Museum (free child admission with paid adult admission to the museum). Any Ohio public library may, at its discretion, distribute these coupon incentives to your 2019 SLP participant of any age. Instructions for obtaining the coupons have been posted to Ohio library listservs including Library Youth Services, OPLINlist, and SmLibs. Please contact Janet Ingraham Dwyer at [email protected] if you work at a public library and need the download links. Please note that Ohio State Fair coupon eligibility has been extended to age 18. In past years, the coupon was good only through age 14. This expansion should make the State Fair coupon much more useful and attractive for teen SLP.

• There will not be a statewide camping coupon incentive for SLP this year. We regret the inconvenience.

• Contact Janet Ingraham Dwyer at [email protected] with any questions about SLP/SRP. Take 5
