Announcements for December 1, 2019 ADULT EDUCATION OPPORTUNITIES SUNDAY Adult Bible Class This class, taught by the pastors, meets at 9:15 a.m. in the AFLC gym. The current study is on Isaiah 2:1-5. The 101 Class: "Discovering the Lutheran Faith" This class, taught by the pastors, is for those who are interested in learning more about the Lutheran Church, Epiphany in particular and is required for those desiring membership at Epiphany. It is held on Sunday morning at 9:15 a.m. in room 203 of the AFLC. The next class will begin in January. The 201 Class: The Lutheran Difference: Daily Prayer We look at the Lord's Prayer to engage God's holiness, provision, forgiveness and protection in prayer. This class meets on Sunday in room 202 of the AFLC at 9:15 a.m. Contact Kevin Ayres, Jeff West or Rick Wolff for more information. MONDAY Ladies' Bible Study This Bible Study is open to women of all ages; it s a chance to gather together in fellowship and friendship. This class meets every Monday at 9:30 a.m. in room 203 of the AFLC. The current study is: Gideon: Your Weakness. Gods Strength. by Priscilla Shirer. TUESDAY Tuesday Afternoon Bible Study This study, open to men and women, meets from 4:00 - 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday in room 202 of the AFLC. The next study is Max Lucados Life Lessons from Matthew. Contact Saul Pontifes at 832-276-3029 for more information. The next study begins on December 10! ANNOUNCEMENTS ADDING TO ADVENT”: A MATCHING GIFT OPPORTUNITY THIS CHRISTMAS SEASON The church is currently experiencing a budget shortfall for 2019 and we are on track to be short of our budget by ~$100,000 (8% of annual budget). A member has come forward with a matching gift challenge of up to $50,000 between now and the end of the year. The donor requests that these matching funds be over and above your normal giving. Blue envelopes are available at the Welcome Centers for donations. Please consider Adding to Adventthis Christmas season. THE GIVING TREE Please consider taking a tag or two from one of the Giving Trees in the narthex or the AFLC. We are collecting gifts for the children at Glocal Missions, they support several churches in the area. Please wrap these gifts, place the label on the gift and return them by December 8! We will also be collecting childrens books for Memorial Lutheran–Katy; they flooded during Harvey and have not been able to replace the books they lost. You can buy the book on the tag or bring any popular childrens book; leave them under the tree unwrapped. If you have any questions, please contact Jennifer Ward.

ADVENT MEALS — Sign-up sheets for Advent Meals are on the bulletin board across from the main building kitchen. Please take a moment to sign up to contribute to one of the meals. ADVENT DEVOTIONALS AVAILABLE! — “Call His Name Jesus” is the theme for this year’s Advent devotionals from Lutheran Hour Ministries. They begin on the First Sunday in Advent, December 1 and continue through Epiphany, January 6. Pick up a copy at either of the Welcome Centers. Devotionals are also available on our website at: www.ShiningTheLight.org. WHAT MAKES A DINNER MMM, MMM GOOD? WHEN SOMEONE ELSE PREPARES IT! — The Altar Guild is selling 13 varieties of premade casseroles by FitChef Texas. You can also purchase individual meals for our shut-in Epiphany members. Delivery will be December 8 after the 10:30 a.m. service in the AFLC or pick up at the store in Pearland no later than December 14. WOMEN'S CHRISTMAS & COOKIE PARTY — The Women of Epiphany cordially invite all ladies of the congregation to join them for their annual cookie baking & Christmas party on Saturday December 7 from 9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. The cookies made at the party will be sold at the annual Christmas Cookie Sale. This year's cookie sale proceeds will go to Saul Pontifes (for his annual mission trip) and Cameron Davies (who is studying to be a church worker). Cookie dough, lunch and babysitting provided! For more information, contact Tiffany Harmon. MEALS ON WHEELS COMING SOON! – Epiphany members will be delivering meals the week of December 9-13. Volunteers are needed to pick up and deliver meals to shut-ins in the Pearland area; it only takes 2 ½ to 3 hours one day during that week and it is greatly appreciated. If you can you help, please contact Lillian Barath. LWML ANNUAL COOKIE SALE — Epiphany’s LWML will hold their annual cookie sale in the narthex on December 11 from 5:15 - 6:15 p.m. (after the 4:30 p.m. Advent Service) and again from 7:45 - 8:45 p.m. (after the 7:00 p.m. Advent Service). The sale will continue Thursday and Friday, December 12 and 13 from 9:00 a.m. – noon during the Mother’s Day Out hours. The LWML asks for your help with the baking and donation of cookies to help make the sale a success. Questions should be directed to Linda Easto in the church office or Tammy Earley. SAVE THE DATE! — Epiphany’s 20th Annual Spring Fair & Gardening Extravaganza is scheduled for Saturday, March 28 from 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.; planning has begun! We are currently accepting applications for handmade craft vendor booths, as well as, a few direct marketing salespersons, e.g. Thirty-One, Scentsy, etc. Please share this event with your favorite small business! If you are interested in renting a booth, please contact Mannie Steglich at [email protected] or Tammy Earley at [email protected]. There is an early bird discount on booth rentals for a limited time. ONLINE GIVING — We have partnered with Vanco in order to offer Online Giving. There are two ways you can participate in this: 1. Go to www.ShiningTheLight.org and click on the green “Online Giving” button. You will be redirected to another page where you can set up a onetime gift or set up a recurring gift. (If you already use bill pay, please continue to do that.) 2. Download the Give+ App for Android or iPhone. Search for Epiphany Lutheran Church by name or zip code (77581) and then click on Epiphany then follow the instructions to give from your phone. Online Giving (or through the app) is simply one more avenue to express the thankfulness and joy we have for what our God has done for us in Jesus.
