The site: Site is located at the foothill of the bhuleshwar temple, near saswad which is about 50km from pune city This area around bhuleshwar temple has been influenced greatly by both hindu and muslim cultures, the temple itself is a good example of this. The artifacts, which are to be placed in the museum are of the same timeline as that of the temple. Bhuleshwar also gives a strong context for designing on the site. Concept was to represent NARROW SPACES WHICH OPEN INTO WIDER SPACES. Thus creating curiosity. This feature was seen in the temple..

ARCHITECTURAL Thesis
THESIS: AGRITOURISM, MANIKDOH, JUNNAR
ARCHITECTURAL THESIS
DEFINITION:
Agri tourism describes the activity of holiday making in rural areas. Farm tours,
outdoor activities, participation in rural lifestyle, natural environment experience,
locally produced food, etc.
A range of activities can be provided by the farmers for the visitors to experience
village life.
Agritourism is a commercial enterprise at a working farm, ranch, or agricultural plant
conducted for the enjoyment of visitors that generates supplemental income for the
owner.
Agri Tourism is to experience the real rural life, taste the local genuine food and get
familiar with the various farming tasks.. Agriculture is the backbone of Indian
Economy. Around 85 percent of the population is directly or indirectly dependent on
Agriculture and almost 26 percent of India’s GDP comes from Agriculture. 90
million farmers are dwelling in 6.25 lac villages producing more than 200 MT of
food grains feeding the country. More than a profession or a business, agriculture is
India’s culture. Hence, adding additional income generating activities to existing
agriculture would certainly increase contribution of agriculture in the national GDP.
Serious efforts need to be made in this direction and Agri Tourism is one such
activity.
Tourism is termed as an instrument for employment generation, poverty alleviation
and sustainable human development. Besides, tourism also promotes national
integration, international understanding and supports local handicrafts and cultural
activities. During 2000, the number of foreign tourists that visited India was 26.41
lac.
In recent years, travel has become much more than just ticking through the mandatory
list of local museums and sites. Travelers want to slow down when they discover a new
destination. They want to meet locals in their natural environments and become more
involved with the land they are visiting.
Nowadays people are seeking to create communities where there is no dictatorship,
which is free from selfishness and competition etc. And provide them homely
environment and affordable living.70 to 75% of Indian Population lives in rural villages.
90% of the rural community earns it’s livelihood from agriculture directly or
indirectly. The rural youth particularly the school drop outs and educational backward
neglected rural women constitute more than 50% of our rural population. Unless we
undertake welfare activity for this section of the community social
upliftment remains incomplete.
At its most basic level, agritourism is a style of travel that takes place on a farm or ranch
and usually offers the opportunity to help with on-site farming or ranching tasks during
the visit. It entails a meaningful visit with a producer of land-based products and
services.
Agritourism farms in India offer tours to allow a person to view the growing, harvesting,
and processing of locally grown foods, such as corn, coconuts, sugar cane, and
pineapple. Often the farmers provide a home-stay opportunity and general education on
the workings of the farm.
ARCHITECTURAL THESIS
Outdoor Recreation:
Horseback riding
Wildlife viewing & photography
Fee fishing
Camping/picnicking (combined)
Fee hunting
Wagon/sleigh rides
Cross-country skiing
Game preserve
Clay bird shooting
Off-road vehicles
Agritourism enterprises might include:
Outdoor recreation (fishing, hunting, wildlife study, horseback riding).
Educational experiences (cannery tours, cooking classes, or wine tasting).
Entertainment (harvest festivals or barn dances).
Hospitality services (farm stays, guided tours or outfitter services).
On-farm direct sales (u-pick operations or roadside stands).
Agritourism is a subset of a larger industry called Rural Tourism that includes
resorts, off-site farmers' markets, non-profit agricultural tours, and other leisure
and hospitality businesses that attract visitors to the countryside.
Rural Tourism differs from Agritourism in two ways. First, rural tourism
enterprises do not necessarily occur on a farm or ranch, or at an agricultural plant,
they do not generate supplemental income for the agricultural enterprise.
Educational Experiences:
School tours
Garden/nursery tours
Winery tours
Agricultural technical tours
Historical agriculture exhibits
Crop sign I.D. program
Micro-brewery tours
Exotic animal farm
• Direct Agricultural Sales:
On-farm sales
Roadside stand
Agriculture-related crafts
Accommodations:

Entertainment:

Appropriate planning is essential if you want to
present a positive image of the farm and of
agriculture as a whole, and to be well prepared for a
group visit.
It is important to think about what kinds of images you
want your visitors to take with them when they leave
(impressions, experiences, knowledge, facts, products).
Here are some considerations to take into account when
assessing your state of readiness for a farm tour:
BASIC PRINCIPLES OF AGRI TOURISM
Agri Tourism should ensure that some basic principles must be followed.
1.Have something for visitors to see:- Animals, birds, farms and nature are the
few things which Agri-tourism could offer to the tourist to see. Apart from these,
culture, dress, festivals and rural games could create enough interest among forest
in Agri-tourism.
2.Have something for visitors to do:- Participating in agricultural operations and
swimming, bullock cart riding, camel riding, buffalo riding, cooking and
participating in the rural games are the few activities to quote in which tourist can
take part and enjoy.
3.Have something for visitors to buy:- Rural crafts, dress materials, farm gate
fresh agriculture products, processed foods are the few items which tourist can
buy as memento for remembrance.
ARCHITECTURAL THESIS
•While designing all age groups and variety of visitors should be considered-
families, bachelors, couples, school picnic, group of teenagers/ladies/gents,
educational visits, parties, photographers, retired people, older travelers, etc
•Children love straw mazes, painting, crafts, etc adults enjoy historic displays
or classes on painting or herbs. Its important to create such spaces, also finding
time for them to rest and relax.
The little touches make all the differences.
•Agritourism can be a mutually beneficial exchange between agriculturists and
urban residents. It can help agriculturists learn more about urban concerns,
while enabling urban residents to learn about farming and enjoy nature.
AIM:
The aim of the thesis project is to develop an Agri tourist resort to attract
tourism in Manikdoh, Junnar.
Also, to attract tourists to this place to give them a feel of village life.
OBJECTIVE:
To study and design Agri tourist resort
To study and analyse existing agri tourist resorts
To provide mixed residential units for tourists for their various experiential
preferences

extra curricular
Other than participating in the regular extra curricular activities and attending workshops, working in the editorial team of college magazine- “Abhivyakti” for three years was quite an experience. Also worked as an editor for one year. Working with the team taught many things, organization and management being few of the things I learnt. The entire process of publishing a magazine, right from the initial discussions regarding the theme to the running to and fro from the printers, is definitely frenzied but strangely invigorating.
