Halloween came to Mano!
Many of our families enjoyed the Halloween picnic held on Tuesday
between 5 and 7pm. Students dressed up and played a variety of
‘trick or treat’ games and activities, earning sweets for their efforts.
The wonderful Wellbeing Subcomittee who made this fun Mano
community activity a reality deserve a BIG THANK YOU! Maybe
this will become an annual event for us?
Walkathon 2017
In some cool and challenging weather, the students participated in
a Walkathon on Wednesday around the local streets. A BBQ lunch
was enjoyed by all at Elderslie Reserve, prepared by a fabulous
volunteer team of parents. Mr Hambrook planned this year’s event
and his organisational skills ensured it was a great success. We
greatly appreciate the sponsors who have supported students and
ask that all Walkathon sponsorship money can be finalised and
deposited to the General Office by Wednesday 8th November.
Music Count Us In – Thursday 2nd November at 12:30pm
Today we all joined in this national event – singing together a song
(‘Shine Together’) prepared especially for this day and sung by
over 500,000 students across Australian schools, all at the same
time. What a way to celebrate the music and the role it plays in our
daily lives. For more details refer to http://musicaustralia.org.au/
program/countusin/ .
Mano (Melbourne) Cup Day Activities – Tuesday 7th November
On this day, regular classes will be conducted at Mano (we had the
Geelong Cup as a holiday). We encourage students to dress up for
the fashion parade which will be held at 9:15am. Maybe they might
wear their best outfit, come as a horse, a jockey, a trainer or
whatever that suits the occasion.
Orders for the special canteen lunch menu on this day closed 9am
this morning! Weather permitting, the whole school will come
together for a picnic lunch on the oval.
Monday 13th November – Pupil Free Day: VCOP Day 2 for Staff
This is the last pupil free day for 2017, as staff will be participating
in further training around the Writing program referred to as VCOP
(Vocabulary, Openers, Connective, Punctuation). VCOP is
beginning to have a positive impact on our young writers, especially
this term with the introduction of the fortnightly ‘Big Write’ sessions.
We thank families for supporting students each fortnight, as they
prepare for these sessions via the ‘Talk Homework’ activity.
Upcoming Prep Transition Visit and Information Evening (for
2018 Enrolments)
On Thursday 9th November we welcome back again for visit
number three, our 69 ‘new’ Preps. On this day we will also conduct
an information evening (commencing at 6:45pm) for parents,
outlining how the Mano Prep community operates. Our Grade 6
students will soon be leaving for secondary school (Graduation
evening is on 20th December) and our new intake of students, the
Preps of 2018, will soon be commencing their primary schooling.
Swimming Program for Preps & Juniors
This two week program will run from Monday 20th November to
Friday 1st December. Details have been sent home but if parents
have any concerns, please ask your classroom teacher. If there
are financial issues which the school may be able to help with re
swimming program costs, please feel free to contact Mrs Mundine
or myself in confidence.
2018 School Year Starting Dates
Some advance notice regarding the start of Term 1 next year –
* Staff will return on Monday 29th January
* Students in Grades 1 to 6 will commence on TUESDAY 30TH
JANUARY
* Prep students will commence on THURSDAY 1ST FEBRUARY
(Pre–booked Prep Interviews will commence on Tuesday 30th
January and Wednesday 31st January)
Emergency Drill Next Week
Schools need to plan responses for emergency situations and
practice accordingly. We should plan for how to evacuate buildings,
to evacuate the school site and also how to bring all students inside
promptly should the need arise (the later known as Lock Ins). Next
week we will practice a ‘Lock In’, which is likely to be during one
recess break. Students will be warned about this in advance to
avoid anxiety, knowing that it is a drill/a practice session. Should we
have a fire, burst pipes, electrical problems, a local chemical leak, a
dangerous person or persons in the vicinity or alike, we need to
know how to act accordingly. Talking to your children about this is
appreciated.

Thanks to all those who donated treats, dressed up and came along to the Halloween family picnic.
An enormous thank you to those students that helped set up on the night. The Wellbeing

Movember at Mano Yesterday marked an important moment for a particular group of Mano Men who are taking on an important challenge for men’s health. They are going to attempt to grow a ‘mo’ in support of Movember. Men are facing a health crisis that isn’t being talked about. They're dying too young and much before their time. This year, we’re taking action by raising funds for prostate cancer, testicular cancer, mental health and suicide prevention. Donate today and we can be the difference. We can stop men dying too young. Please follow the link to our Movember page to donate otherwise drop some money into the General Office. https://moteam.co/mano-men?mc=1 Thanks. Hi Everyone
It has been another great week at OSHC. Samuel, William and Charlie played with lego. Samuel made the word "Welcome" using
lego. William built a "Robot" with Lego. Juliet and Ruby made standing stars with paper. Maja and Juliet made scary monsters for
Halloween. Luka and Jem set up the solar system with large floor puzzles and discussed the position of planets. Alfie made a big
tower with marbles. Gertie, Sadie and Caeley did colouring in. Isabel made bracelets with wool. Juliet, Astrid, Sadie and Gertie
made beautifully patterned butterflies with paper and displayed them on the wall. Raidan and Astrid enjoyed playing Connect 4.
There was a lot of fun.
