Life Bus Coupons

Starting in July 1, there will be changes to the bus coupon program (also known as LIFE). Applicants will only need to apply once a year and will receive 12 months of discount (July 2019 to June 2020). Additionally, coupons are now paperless and will be linked with your TAP card.

LIFE distribution will start on June 18

To receive the discount, you MUST BRING ALL of the following: Valid government issued picture ID of all household members that are applying (student ID cards are accepted for children under 18); Valid TAP card of all household members applying; Proof of household income (examples include: paystub, Medi-Cal, CA Lifeline, EBT, tax return, proof that you receive public (benefits) Optional: Email address.

Please bring all of the above mentioned documents for you and your household members applying for a discount. If you do not bring your household member’s ID/TAP card at the time of application, we are unable to give them the discount nor will we be able to add them to your application to receive the discount at a later time.

Since the discounts are now paperless and linked with your TAP card, we highly recommend for you to register your card onTAPTOGO.NET. By registering your card, you will have balance protection. Adventure is our June Core Value of the month! This means we will be paying tribute to new and exciting experiences. We have decided to add a new field trip to our roster by taking our participants to the Paley Center; they will have a special Interactive exhibit honoring Star Trek. At our Gentleman’s Lunch, we will be honoring our fathers, grandfathers, brothers, sons, and male friends. Make sure to continue reading and look at our monthly calendar. We offer a variety of classes and events so make sure to highlights any activities you might want to add to your routine. Adding new classes to your routine is a guarantee to add a little adventure in your life.

With the widespread outbreaks of measles happening in the United States and internationally, and local cases transmitted within Los Angeles County, the chance of exposure

to measles has increased at this time.

Measles is a highly contagious viral infection that spreads from person-to-person. A person with measles can spread the disease to others even before they have any symptoms. Most people who have not been immunized against measles will get it if they have contact with the virus.

The best way to keep from getting and spreading measles is get the measles immunization. Measles immunization is available at your doctor’s office, local pharmacy or health clinic. Public Health clinics offer no or low-cost immunizations for individuals who are uninsured or underinsured.

If you think that you or someone in your family has measles or has been exposed to measles, contact your doctor's office by phone right away. Tell them that you might have measles before go in, so they can take steps to prevent other patients and staff from being exposed.

Measles is spread through a cough or sneeze by a person with measles and can still infect others 2 hours after the infected person has left a room. Persons with measles are contagious from 4 days before until 4 days after the rash appears. The in-cubation period of developing measles is up to 21 days after being exposed to someone else who has the disease.

Public Health Working for You In response to the measles cases that has occurred in Los Angeles County, Public Health has mounted effective public health strategies to control the spread of this disease, including:

1. Identify contacts and protecting them with active or passive; immunization when possible. 2. Isolating people who are infectious to prevent the spread of measles to others. 3. Strongly advising not immunized individuals to receive the measles immunization. 4. Notifying the public through postings and local media of specific public locations where measles cases have occurred. For more information go to www.publichealth.lacounty.gov.

WHAT WE DO

Located in the heart of Downtown L.A.’s Historic Bunker Hill District, Angelus Plaza is the largest affordable housing community for older adults in the nation. The Plaza and its Senior Activity Center opened in 1980. Five high-rise towers house a diverse community of 1400 adults with an average age of 82. The six-story Senior Activity Center provides a variety of supportive services, programs, and amenities. We collaborate with outside organizations, volunteers, and senior clubs to provide actives for older adults living downtown and surrounding areas. The Senior Activity Center serves approximately 8,000 older adults monthly. Our programs emphasize ongoing education, a healthy and active lifestyle, multi-cultural understanding, and intergenerational involvement. Our programs are free, and open to all seniors (age 55+).

We welcome donations to support programs and services.
