“And Though This World WithDevils Filled”

“and thou this world WITH DEVILS FILLED should threaten to undo us”

Devils and Satan originally existed as angels

Something went wrong in the angelic choir

Page 3: Angels of Darkness Colossians 1:15-16; 2 Peter 2:4-10

“And Though This World WithDevils Filled”

2 Peter 2:4; Jude 6

Some of the angels “sinned”

Daimon = spirit, and always used negatively in the New Testament

“And Though This World WithDevils Filled”

The leader is satan the “prince of demons” (Luke 11:14-15; 17-18)

Satan means adversary or opponent

Diabolos = devil, adversary or accuser

Page 6: Angels of Darkness Colossians 1:15-16; 2 Peter 2:4-10

“And Though This World WithDevils Filled”

These beings are active in the world

2 Peter 2:4 ff pictures demons and people being kept in reserve or “chains” for judgment, but both are active in the world

What Doth A Demon Do? Distortion

They give a distorted view of reality regarding God and ourselves

Page 8: Angels of Darkness Colossians 1:15-16; 2 Peter 2:4-10

What Doth A Demon Do? Genesis 3:1-13

“crafty” or “tricky”

His deception works in two ways

Page 10: Angels of Darkness Colossians 1:15-16; 2 Peter 2:4-10

What Doth A Demon Do? He distorts the person of God to humans

He seeks to undermine people’s trust in the nature and motives of God

Jesus gave us the word to overcome that misperception: FATHER

Page 11: Angels of Darkness Colossians 1:15-16; 2 Peter 2:4-10

What Doth A Demon Do? Temptation

General pattern is like we see with Eve

People are responsible for their actions:– The serpent deceived: I ate

Page 12: Angels of Darkness Colossians 1:15-16; 2 Peter 2:4-10

What Doth A Demon Do? Temptation is broader and deeper than we

often consider

Satan has organized the world and the powers against God

Page 13: Angels of Darkness Colossians 1:15-16; 2 Peter 2:4-10

What Doth A Demon Do? 1 John 5:19; John 14:30

We have a whole system that plays to human weakness

1 John 2:15-17

Page 14: Angels of Darkness Colossians 1:15-16; 2 Peter 2:4-10

What Doth A Demon Do? Accusation

Revelation 12:10

Satan is regularly accusing us before God

Page 15: Angels of Darkness Colossians 1:15-16; 2 Peter 2:4-10

The Mighty Fortress Jesus came to destroy satan’s works

(1 John 3:8)

The Spirit is actively drawing and revealing truth so people can come out of darkness

Page 16: Angels of Darkness Colossians 1:15-16; 2 Peter 2:4-10

The Mighty Fortress God has given us power to overcome

temptation and to wage war with the devil

We stand free from accusation

We have the power of God to cause demons to flee
