A few reminders

Our Uniform Shop will be open every day from 8.30-11.00 during the first two weeks of next term. This includes Tuesday 27th January, the day before students return to school. Please don’t forget, if you need to purchase new school shoes during the holidays, they should be BLACK to conform with school uniform requirements. If you are planning your budget for the beginning of the year, please be advised that when students return to school they will be required to purchase a ‘book pack’ which will give them all the required stationery and exercise books they will need (-no need to go shopping in the holidays!!). Requests will also be forwarded for school fees, some reading materials and a small CAPA levy. Soon after school begins there will be costs involved for those attending the annual swimming carnival. I hope this ‘heads-up’ information is helpful. Permanent classes will not be formed at the beginning of the year until the end of Week 2, when our enrolments will be finalised. This will eliminate the need for students to be changed from one class to another as enrolment numbers stabilise. For the first days of the school year, our boys and girls will be placed in grade or stage groups – each day they will work on special activities with a number of teach-ers in a variety of classrooms. This will be a time of assessment of academic skills, development of social skills, time for students to try out for various sport and performance groups and an oppor-tunity for our students to form friendships across the whole grade. Once again, I hope you enjoy the Christmas vacation with your boys and girls, Kind regards Jackie Malecki

Tuesday 9th December was our last day of school banking for 2014. We would like to thank everyone for your support with this ongoing fundraising activity for the P &C. Many children have received some great rewards thoughout the year. Stock levels are low on most items as they have been very popular. Tokens that have not been redeemed can be used for next years’ exciting space-themed rewards. The P&C would like to thank the volunteers who work hard to deliver this service to our school and give a special thank you to Linda Rough. Linda had been working with the school banking team for 7 years. As her daughter Emily moves off to high school this brings Linda to her last year with the program. During the past 7 years Linda has help to raise over $5000.00 in commission. So if you see Linda please thank her for her hard work and dedication to our school. P&C Committee

Everyone seems to have their favourite activity from the day. The students loved all 3 sessions and it was hard to pick a winning activity. Bowling was very popular with the Year 6 students with many getting their first ever strikes. They excitedly shared their scores with their friends. In the pool, students played a variety of structured games such as noodle races, noodle limbo and chasing games. A big thank you to Mr Katon, Mr Bromhead, Ms Chapple, Ms Payne and Mrs Power who have finally dried out after spending 2 full days in the pool. The gymnastics sessions were an absolute hit with all ages, including the young-at -heart teachers. Students were very impressed with the great facilities. The SGAC staff showed the students the correct way to warm up their bodies and cool down with stretches. They then participated in a circuit of gymnastic and balancing skills on the sprung flooring, rings, beams and bars. The highlights were definitely the foam pits, mini tramps and of course the big trampolines. Overall, the party days were a total success. I know that lots of children and staff had early nights after their busy days.

On Friday 12th of December K-3 went to the RSL for party day!! Mrs Russell was the organiser. First we had to be at school before 8:45 because the bus left at 9:00. Next we got there and went to gymnastics for 2 hours. My favourite part was the trampoline because we got to do jumping activities on them. We jumped so high! After that we had recess and went swimming. We had to be tested if we could swim or not. We played some fun water games. Finally we had lunch and watched the kindergartens do gymnastics. After lunch we did bowling. Miss Dixon, Miss Simunovic and Miss Bell were playing with some of the kids. That was the best party day ever that happened at Rooty Hill Public School! On 11th of December, Years 4, 5 and 6 went to Party Day. We went AMF bowling, the pools and the gymnastics facilities at SGAC. We first went bowling. It was really fun as there were lights and we kept on getting strikes. When we finished bowling we all went to the SGAC pool to play some games there. There were three games that we all played. After about forty five minutes we got changed for gymnastics. When we got there at 12:20pm we started doing warm-up exercises that I can describe as pure fun. After the warm up we split up in groups. There were trampolines there and they were really fun. After the trampolines it was time for lunch. When lunch concluded we went to the other side of the training hall. This side had obstacle courses and also a foam pit where we had to get from one end to the other – this was very fun. When we finished the day, we embarked the bus and headed back to school. We were extremely tired as we had so much fun bowling, swimming and doing gymnas-tics. Party day was really fun and I hope 2015’s will be the same.
