ABSTRACT
As a megapolitan city, Jakarta is the center of government, trading, etc. To support these relevant activities, terrestrial transportationplays an important role. This will bring the consequences, the increasingof fuel demand and eventually the increasing of fuel combustion emissionin ambient air. One of the pollutant that have been emitted is TotalSuspended Particulate (TSP). On the specific level TSP pollution can
cause breathing apparatus disturbance symptom. The aim of this research is to obtaindarta of ambient air quality
that affected by road side activities and its impact on public healthcondition in research area, espicially on breathing apparatus.
Method which is applied on this research is case control study,so that the research is carried out ain two location, Senen sub distric andCiomas Rahayu Village. In each area the air sample, temperature and
wind velocity are taken and then analyzed using gravimetric method inHIPERKES laboratory, Jakarta. Analyzes result then processed usingstatistical linear regression method. Whereas breathing apparatusdisturbance symptom has been detected by spreading the questionnairewhich residence in that two areas then analyzes using statistical logisticregression.

The selection of air sampling location in the two research area
are based on wind direction and the locations which have the heavytransportation activitiess such as surrounding bus terminal, train statiunafrom thatnd shopping area. Starting from that the sampling point isconfirmed, three points in Senen sub district and two points in CiomasRahayu Village
The highest concentration in Senen sub district is 716,28 µg/Nm³and the lowest is 393,20 µg/Nm³ whereas in Ciomas Rahayu is 103,20µg/Nm³ and 46,23 µg/Nm³. Total respondent collected in each two area is
100 respondents. The result is 63 respondents in Senen positivelyinfected breathing apparatus disturbance symptom, whereas in CiomasRahayu only 30 respondents which positively infected. Linear regressionstatistical analyzes in Senen shows that TSP concentration 100% isinfluenced by temperature, wind velocity, humidity, sunray and traffic.

Logistic regression analyzes shows the significant correspondence
number between sort of profession related with dust, working penod andsmoking period against the rising of breathing apparatus disturbancesymptom for the respondent in Senen is 97,20% whereas in CiomasRahayu only 11,46%.
From previous analyzes, the Odd Ratio is generated on 3.9
which means that the risk (probability) of people in Senen to positively
infected breathing apparatus disturbance symptoms is 3.9 times higherthan peoples in Ciomas Rahayu

INTRODUCTIONAir pollution in big cities in Indonesia, especially Jakarta
has affected the health of people living in the city, especially thoserelated to the respiratory tract of humans and animals. Until 1996,the number of motor vehicles in Jakarta has reached 2.8 millionand will continue to increase by about 20% per year with theincrease of population and economic activity (Bapedalda DKIJakarta, 1996). Based on LPM-ITB research, the contribution of
transportation activities to air pollution in Jakarta is 66.34%,18.9% of industrial activities and 14.8% of natural factors. Besidesexacerbating poor sanitary conditions of urban public health, itcan be seen from the slums are narrow and coincide because oflimited land coupled vertilasi unfavorable.
